looking for opinion. A player from a parish born and bread went to school and played underage in the club decides to play for a neighbouring club team at adult level that are bitter rivals. The neighbouring club team folds and the player then elects to play for his actual local club.
Should he start ahead of local lads with lesser ability who have served the club loyally as panel member for years even when not getting much of a look in ?

If he's training away as hard as anyone else then he should start if he's the best man to start.

Simple as.

I've seen stuff like this before where you have lads who've moved into the area as adults and always have someone saying they shouldn't be starting coz they're not life long members. Luckily most seem to agree you have to do the best for the team. If they're good, they start.

Yes and when you are a point down or ahead the guy you discarded for him is the one that would put his body on the line to block a shot or help with the kids when not playing. Help with the grounds etc. etc. Has his head in his hands in the dressing room after the loss of the junior final. The other guy is the one who says we gave it our best and the other team were better. He means he gave it his best and the loss does not hurt him so much. Funny how that goes. I have seen stuff like this before over and over also. That is not to say the other guy should not be welcomed back to the club but I know where my money would go when the chips are down. The guy who stuck with his little junior club and fended off the approaches of the big senior club that tried to lure him away. He has guaranteed the future if the little club in the village and the kids look up to him as much as if he was an All-Ireland medalist. Not in favour of taking away the rights of anyone or the reason for their decisions but do know who should be idolized. Of course if you are from the big smoke a player or two here and there does not matter as much. 99% of the time it is as black and white as the wall paintings outside the pitch that the local club men built and stuck with. No big sponsors just the locals putting there hand in their pockets and giving their labour. The farmers their time and machinery as well.
