Great confidence Mick. What about '23 even? I know it was a typo…

Absolutely, each and every one is hard earned. The cup and medals are still the same. I've never heard as much rubbish. Bon (Kildare) - Posts: 2315 - 29/07/2022 17:05:50 2435287 Link 0 |
It's just term that means so little that it's impossible to even pin down how it's wrong. What's the measure of "Substance" of an All Ireland title? Can it be quantified in advance or is it just a term you make up afterwards? Is there a list of All Ireland's that meant a lot and those that meant nothing? Oh lol. I just see that now. Maybe it's an omen. Obviously meant 2014..Very observant as usual Forever. Good man!

Coming at it from a Tyrone view, the 2005 championship was nerve wrecking in nearly all matches. Started off slow and nearly lost to Cavan, replay needed, then lost to Armagh in replay for Ulster final, got over Dublin after another replay then Armagh again and finally got over Kerry in All Ireland final. 10 matches in total and everyone a honour to be there.

And to think that there were those who wanted that 2014 replay to have been played in a half empty Croke park.

What would be peoples thoughts on winning an all Ireland despite having lost a game, in the provincials? Galway9801 (Galway) - Posts: 1942 - 30/07/2022 13:10:57 2435376 Link 0 |
Totally. And it would be a great boost for football in Tipperary and Limerick as well.

Even Sean Kelly said some years ago the quarter-finals could be played around the country.

It was Mayo people who railed against coming to Limerick. There is this culture in the GAA of playing matches in half or quarter full stadia. And I don't know why.

Call him whatever you want - but Frank Murphy applied a lot of common sense when he was an administrator. And he wasn't afraid of ruffling feathers - even in Croke Park. bruffgael (Limerick) - Posts: 209 - 30/07/2022 13:43:04 2435391 Link 1 |
Kilkenny had lost two games prior to meeting Limerick in the final and if Kilkenny had won I'm sure than man would think it was one of the sweetest wins ever.

No doubt about that , that respect goes both ways, It would take hours to list the Kerry greats, but to list some i loved watching, Jacko , Mikey Sheehy, the Bomber, the Gooch , Paidi O se , in fact All the O se s , Kieran Donaghy, Seamus Moynihan the best full back ever, and now David Clifford, I left my favourite to last the great Maurice Fitz , for me it wouldent matter where you played him , in goal, full back , mid field , edge of the square, he would be man of the match , A total joy to watch

Fine posts Mick and Germac. I know that it's an impossible situation, but if you could put any of those Kerry greats up against each other one to one, my money would be on Seamus Moynihan besting any of the others. He was the real deal.

Have to disagree with you on that, but we all have our opinions! I could think of a fair few Kerry players who would have handled him

The begrudgery is out there folks. When we won on 03, it was down to "puke football" and doing un-GAA stuff like swarm defending. Of course, now that everyone else has adopted a similar defensive approach, there's not a word about it. points50swiththeargyllsonthewrongfeet (Tyrone) - Posts: 293 - 30/07/2022 19:34:21 2435514 Link 0 |
Yes but Tyrone improved game by game and by the time they got to final they were on fire.

Moynihan was unreal. Not the biggest man but had a great leap. Strong as a horse fast and a great reader of the game. Played midfield centre forward full back half back and centre back. A true warrior.

Kilkenny are not the first team to appear in an All-Ireland final after losing two games.
