Replying To germac:  "not sure where to start here , Firstly Ross was on of my favourite players ever, giving his all every time he pulled on our famous Down jersey , but to blame almost everyone else is a cop out, hopefully in next weeks Irish news he will outline exactly what needs to be done to get us back to the top table, Next whatever the Meath co board are doing or not doing, the price of steel or concrete , i couldend give 1 monkeys 40 pc up or 40 pc down whatever that has to do with us in Down i dont know , Reguarding Ballykinlar who gives a rats ass who pays for it, the uk government , the tax payer , who cares as long as its built"
Your a comedian I see, top table. Spend as much as you like of other people's money but yous don't have players. Keep dreaming of the past.

Surely Down need to look at what is happening in Offaly- the appointment of Michael Duignan to the county board has transformed them. Listened to him on the BBC Social podcast and he talked so much sense for and about his county. Down need to look at getting it right at county board level and then the right man in place of the football team- their hurlers are doing well at their level so the basis is there.

So Conor Lavery has been named The new Down manager, i for one though he may while another couple of years but I'm delighted.
With working with the U20s he will be bringing as many though to mix with the experience players and yes i know what everybody will be saying and thinking How many kilcoo lads will commit.
Honestly he was the only name within the county that jumped out and with Marty Clarke again on board hopefully we can build and gain our confidence back i see no reason why we shouldn't.
Some of the things people have been saying like we don't have the players is *****, we have them we just need that commitment not for 12 months but the next 3/4 years.
Onwards and upwards.

There are very few managers out there who can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Neartheborder. If you have nothing constructive to say don't say anything. By the way you are DERRY not KERRY. I think when you look at our haul of medals it far outweighs yours. I have a lot of time for Derry people having worked up in the city for years. Its a shame you have no respect not only for Down but for gaa in general.

From an outsider looking in it looks the smart choice in appointing Laverty. Hopefully he will prove a uniting figure.

Always a lot of talent in Down but hopefully those u20's can push on. All the best for 2023, enjoyed my trip to Newry last February for the league encounter. Lovely people.

The GAA need a strong Down team. I would love to see them compete at the highest level, as they add a special flair to the championship.
We have a special affinity for Down, as we both arrived on the Provincial/ All Ireland scene in the early 1960's.

Thank you to our knowledgeable friends from Galway and Offaly. Our teams have always brought excitement, flair and integrity to the football scene. We have produced some of the finest footballers the GAA have to offer -O'Neill, Doherty, Mussen, Mc Cartans (James, Dan and Wee James), Sloan, Blaney, Linden, Breen and Carr to name a few. But most of all we give the counties in the north a belief that they could go to Dublin and win. Some people up here have always called us arrogant but we are not. There is has always been a confidence and belief in our ability to surpass any obstacle, people forget that the 'troubles' were in county Down as much as any other county in ulster. I think our friend from Derry still hasn't got over 1994.

Offaly footballers were relegated and the hurlers are going nowhere. Hurling and football managers both gone. There has been no transformation. Galway have been winning at under age in both football and hurling for years and still have done very little at senior level.

Did you call Sir?A bigger comedian than Paddy Kielty, if you have so much excitement, flair and integrity what are you doing in Div 3? Some people are dead right. Ranked 8th in Ulster.

Just sad that Down are not competing at championship level. I don't know what is the reason, but hopefully the new management can get things moving again.

After this reply I will not be engaging with you. You obviously have not played football at any level. As for me I could 'blow my own trumpet' but I won't but just to say that I have played at the highest level in both gaa and soccer. It is irrelevant what league we are playing in for this discussion but just remember where you were a couple of years ago.
