New Donegal Manager

Replying To Donegal_abroad:  "I wouldn't insult Leitrim, have good time for the place.

I'm personally of the opinion that there is a raft of players in that squad who a lot more can be extracted from with the right management - Michael Langan, Jason McGee, Jamie Brennan, Stephen McMenamin, Odhran McFadden Ferry, Shane and Niall O'Donnell and a number of others.

And it's fine today talking about Galway or Kerry with them being in a final on Sunday. Who would have predicted Galway to win Sam until now? I'm sure you know football is fickle and things can change. In 2010, I felt a good squad was being wasted and then from 2011 we know what happened. I think this group have loads of talent but the required steel, hard calls and belief is missing."
I agree with you to a certain extent but I genuinely do not think donegal have the players to win an all Ireland. Ye don't have players of the likes of Karl lacey, the mcgees, Frank burns, Mark mchugh etc now. Throw in the fact that murphy, mcbrearty etc are much older now. Yes ye probably should be doing better but don't think an all Ireland is in this team. Just my opinion.

Bit seriously and again I'm genuinely not being a smart ass here- how many of the donegal team would dislodge a kerry, dublin or even galway player? Murphy would but hes nearly past his best. Apart from that it is slim pickings. But that's just my opinion. You are of course free to disagree."
I think there is a general feeling at the moment that with Dublin returning to the pack there are a handful of counties who, given the right circumstances, would fancy their chances of winning it. Galway are the living proof of that. Back in the spring when they were losing to Roscommon in the Div 2 league final an All Ireland final appearance might have sounded optimistic to say the least. But they have the talent and are well coached and crucially perhaps have avoided injuries to their key men. They now find themselves in the final where anything could happen.

I guess my point is given the right circumstances why couldn't Donegal do something similar? You make it sound like we have no talent to work with. There's a pile of football in the likes of Eoghan Ban, Thompson, Mogan, Jason McGee, the three O'Donnells, Gallen, Doherty etc and who knows what kind of rejeuvenating affect a new management team could have on Murphy, McBrearty, McHugh...

maybe not All Ireland winners granted, but better than what we've shown of late.

Yeah well that's fair enough, opinions are what it's all about, no issue there. But I don't agree the situation or outlook is hopeless for us, far from it. Apart from Lacey, the McGees and others didn't really stand out until the right manager came along for us. Then they delivered on their potential. I believe that possibility is still there, there are loads of good players in that squad but too many are coasting. I'm sceptical about what our county board will do next though, that's a bigger concern for me. My only fear is the next manager will not be a step up from what we had. Perhaps a step down.
