All Ireland JCF Semi Finals And Final Being Played In Under 48 Hours Of Each Other

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I see the two semi finals down for decision this evening, only home team in them is Kilkenny, who ever wins then has to play the final on Sunday...I appreciate the 3 "away teams are from abroad, but surely to God the final can be given propper recognition and played some Sunday in a few weeks time or other..but I suppose when you have the All Ireland Minor football final being played of a Friday night in Roscommon (no offence to town or venue) it does show there is a certain "want this done and dusted" etc..why cant the latter be played curtain raiser to one of the semi-finals, no doubt large chunks of Croke Park will be idle again particularly tomorrow Saturday.

Where else would you have a minor final between Galway and Mayo in a neutral venue, easily accessible from both counties, where there will be a great atmosphere generated for the size of the crowd?

I think the reality with the JFC is logistics and getting London, Warwickshire and New York to all commit to playing games in Dublin at the same time.

I think not having them as curtain raisers in Croker is actually a good idea.
The minor hurling final between your own county and Tipp last weekend was a far better occasion than if it had been played before Galway vs Limerick in a two-thirds empty Croke Park.
The minor football final this evening is also anticipating a very good crowd. In a compact venue like Hyde Park, this should lead to a better atmosphere.

There won't be many "chunks" of Croke Park empty tomorrow.
25,000 people got to see a Minor hurling final last weekend for €15 rather than 2,000 getting to see it at €90 each if it was still on with the Senior Final.
As fir the Junior thing....how many games do u16s, u15s etc play in weekend blitz things?

3 teams have come from abroad for this JFC series. It's not ideal but the reality is it's the best fit. The semi-finals could have been played on Thursday or Wednesday if there was a stronger desire for that.

Abottstown is not Kilkenny's home.
Secondly, how much do you think a return flight from New York to Dublin costs? Times that by around 40 (football team panel, plus manager and staff). There's also the issue of the New York players taking time off work. It's not feasible for them to this twice in a month or even two.

There's always a guaranteed whinge no matter what. Minor final last weekend and tonight were fantastic spectacles. As earlier poster said 27,000 in attendance and a fantastic atmosphere.

Underage club games are played often a few times (twice) a week but for inter county of any level to be played not twice in a week but twice in under 48 hours says as all I need to know about the rushing of these inter County championships.. Only saving grace I suppose is 3 of semi finalists are from overseas..

Anyone in attendance in Hyde Park last night and witnessed the big crowd and superb atmosphere will know the correct call was done on playing it there.

As for the Junior championship. It was on its last legs and HQ decide to run with a competition with just 4 teams and London, New York not allowed to play their strongest teams, a joke if ever there was.

biggest joke of all is a team who were beaten twice coming on and beating a team that were unbeaten in province and all Ireland series propper..anyway it is as it is..

comical way of looking at things! Galway are Minor all ireland champions and rightly so! Connaught minor championship as well as all other provincial championships are run of a league basis, them knock out for the all ireland series! Man City lost more games than Liverpool last year, does that make it a joke that man city won the league? a few years back the minor and senior championship was knock out only! meaning some counties putting in months of effort training and commitment just to lost in the first round!

Galway minors were actually beaten 3 times in 8 outings. Won 5. Mayo won 7 out of 8.
But these are the anomalies that we signed up to the day we introduced back doors into championship. They are the rules and everyone knows them from the outset. In the end of the day Mayo still went out on All Ireland final day with a fair chance of beating Galway for a third time. I dont subscribe to the theory that its hard to beat a team twice or 3 times, and that in some way that the deck was stacked in Galway's favour. The bottom line is that , just like Mayo completely outplayed Galway in Connacht , Galway did the opposite in AI. Which of these 2 very good minor teams is the better. Who knows. Mayo are the Connacht champions. Galway are the All Ireland champions. Hopefully both counties develop these players towards senior - I have a slight suspicion that more of the Mayo lads will play senior than the Galway lads . Either it will be interesting and enjoyable to monitor this progression.

The minor provincial championships are all about giving a guarantee of a certain number of games. Everyone knows the score prior to All-Ireland knockout.

Galway won every game they had to. They won their first 2 round robin matches, so were already qualified for the Connacht semi final at that stage.
They were well beaten by Mayo in the next group game and then put out a much changed team for the last group game with Leitrim, as the result wouldn't change their position.
They were beaten again by Mayo in the Connacht final, but both teams knew they'd be in the quarter final regardless.
We then beat the Leinster champions Dublin, the Ulster runners-up and the Connacht champions to win it out.
The joke you're talking (a team beaten twice) is literally happening in the senior hurling final next Sunday. Kilkenny were beaten twice in Leinster and are taking on an unbeaten team in the final.
Everyone knows the format before they start. They know which games are must-win and which are not. Galway won the games they had to, including the most important one.
