I wonder could it be 'modified' into an automated voting machine by any chance. If such a project could be deemed cost effective of course......going forward!! Be great for 'referenda' anyway, with the Tá & Níl built in already, and red lines & green lines for cutting edge 'analysis' too.

You do wonder how many more wrong calls can be attributed to Hawkeye at this stage. There's been many times I've seen it show the trajectory of the ball looking like a score and the decision being the opposite. I assumed it was just the way the system conveys the message. But after yesterday I'm starting to think the system is as big a bluffer as half the umpires. I can live with a human error. But for 7/8k per match technology? Unforgivable.

If the ball is higher than the posts it is impossible for humans to be 100% sure,Could the technology that draws the line for offside be used ie by continuing a line from the post up.

Why do the Umpires on the goalposts look like dozy geriatrics who aren't in tune with the game ?

Goalposts should be 5 metres higher, painted black at the top 3rd to prevent ball camouflage with the posts..
Young Umpires are needed with razor eyesight and mobility to follow the flight of the ball, while a 3rd umpire should be located ideally 5 metres behind the goal posts in a central position with a computerised 3d screen to make an easy and swift decision.

Were umpires at fault earlier in year when I think Fermanagh lost out on promotion because umpires were daydreaming of what they were going to eat for free later. Lot of hours training for players for this to happen. Hogan stand forum has two Hawkeyes.

Replying To maroondiesel:  "The time was way up for hawk eye yesterday. Galway's score should have stood. So if "Hawk Eye" (which is just another person entering data) decides to review a potential score after the full time whistle, what happens then?
The whole thing is just a silly cartoon but it looks nice."
The referee has complete control while the game is on. If that had happened at the full-time whistle rather than half-time then then the score would not have stood and it would be left up to the CCC the following week (assuming it was a result-defining score that is).

There was one incident in the fist half, or maybe I'm confusing it with the Tailteann Cup Final, where the umpire called for the technology. That showed that it was a mile wide making the umpire look a fool. One wonders though, rare to see an umpire gt it THAT wrong

Replying To CiarraiMick:  "Yes indeed. Its an effing computer. Things go wrong and it's expensive. The video ref is the way to go but that makes too much sense. The gaa hate following other sports like ladies football with the clock and rugby with the video ref. They followed their biggest enemy though with the yellow and red cards. The gaa are a disgrace with their lack of progression. It's also animated so I don't trust it anyway. Delighted today it proved inadequate."
Give us all a break would ya!

Video Ref and the clock is of course the way to go and it would be a hell of a lot cheaper than Hawkeye. Hawkeye has thrown up too many mistakes at this stage for me. If it was an employee making those mistakes they'd be fired.
I'll never understand the top brass's reluctance to try and improve things instead of persisting with the same old same old."
What sport are you talking about? A video ref could look at a ball above the height of the uprights a hundred times and still not have a clue whether it was in or not. And can you even imagine how long that would take!!

Please!! If Trump got wind of this, it will add fuel to his overturning American election. Hawkeye as voting machine ha ha

The GAA paid €200k to install the Hawk-Eye system at Croke Park. Plus, another €7k to €8 every time it's used.
It failed yet again yesterday, during one of the biggest matches of the year. It's got so bad they've turned it off for today's football semi-final.

Fermanagh were denied a point but they certainly weren't denied promotion. Stick to facts

Defending the indefensible, either some connection with the Hawkeye set up or the officials whose job is to oversee it in the Association.

There has being problems with Hawkeye for some time & they haven't been cleared up. Also instead of the GAA communications / PR unit coming out & making a statement on the issues showing transparency & clearing up any ambiguity, they toughed it out as usual. At this stage Hawkeye is done, the question must be asked as to how many games it has cost teams. If it were professional sport, there would be lawsuits. Questions about who has oversight on it in Croke Park must be answered as they were definitely asleep at the wheel, despite a number of red flag issues. Also is there independent governance of it on the day like the Lotto operators ? Hawkeye & Croke Park officials overseeing it failed in their roles, major PR disaster.

Nothing wrong with copying other sports that have successful systems & while they are at it, bring in the Time Clock like the LGFA, cut out the nonsense around black cards & refs giving teams another opportunity when games are tight.

I have been posting about Hawkeye for years. Remember it was brought in to "assist" umpires when the ball, especially in hurling crossed the end line higher than the uprights. So, in cases where an umpire was in doubt, he would signal to the ref, who would then request Hawkey to review the shot. In the year of testing prior to going live only 1 score was incorrectly called by the umpires. Within a short time of its introduction Hawkeye was not assisting umpires but reversing decisions they made on a regular basis. In hurling Hawkeye was awarding points that had been saved from going over by the goalkeeper. In the case in question, Derry V Galway, a 45 with the umpires and ref perfectly positioned, and the ball not being higher than the uprights, Hawkeye overruled the match officials and had a good point disallowed. Major bookmakers offer odds on whether Hawkeye would be used during the game. Each time Hawkeye is used a major optician company is advertised. Preferably it should be discontinued altogether but at a minimum should NEVER be used unless called on be the Umpires/Ref. Remember Derry were denied what looked a good point also, though in that case the umpire did request it. In the Connacht final last year at Croke Park, Galway also had what all the team, and indeed the umpires, believed was a good point, overturned when Hawkey intervened 30 seconds later. It was a turning point in the game. The reversal of the bad decision which was correct only happened because RTE camaras proved the ball was well inside. Derry would have been set back mentally by that as we were last year. Hopefully they will get rid it.

They didn't open the thread when it settled all the endless debates about controversial scores.
When your Windows or Mac don't do what they're supposed to do what do you do? Get rid of it? Technology ain't perfect all the time so calm down

Hawkeye update this week but won't be used for all Ireland hurling on Sunday. Doubt if it will be necessary anyway, as could be an easy win for the Cats. Limerick have struggled all year whilst KK trounced Clare.
