Dublin V Kerry

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Very difficult game to call, lot of if's and but's about both sides. Would worry about Kerry's defense, bad and all as Mayo were, they created a lot of chances. A similar performance against the Dubs and they'll be well beat, with or without Con and McCarthy. Impossible to tell exactly how good Dublin are as competition in Leinster is non-existent and they hardly got out of 1st gear against Cork. Their league form was atrocious with so many changes from game to game but they definitely appear more settled now.
Basically both teams are coming in undercooked and untested and I've no real idea how things will pan out.
Here's hoping for even 60% of the drama and entertainment that we got with Galway/Armagh minus the bar room brawl.

I would say we have a small chance of winning without O'Callaghan, with him, it'll be tight.

Please God he OK. He just disappeared off the Kery home forum too and no one seems to know why.

I think all the pressure is on Kerry this time around. With all the hype and the favourite tags I think Kerry have to produce on Sunday. A defeat here would be another huge blow. Dublin have inflicted defeat after defeat to Kerry since 2009 so I think this game is massive from a Kerry point of view. We have to win this one. I feel that it now or never for this Kerry team. Not just on Sunday but to win the AI outright

I was more confident going into the AI final in 2019 than I am for this one and look how that turned out. Dublin's experience in closing out games etc could be the turning point here. If they are ahead going into the last 10 mins then I cant see Kerry winning it. Dublin will just play keep ball.

There is not much between the 2 teams and goals may decide this one.

If Clifford is fully fit ( doubtful ) I think Kerry will win…they have 6 more natural forwards than Dublin

Any news on the Kerry team? I hear (unreliably) that Diarmuid O Connor may be injured - which would mean that 2 of Kerry's 3 midfielders are out.
Adrian Spillane would be the likely replacement for Diarmuid O Connor. The backs will be unchanged.
Will Dara Moynihan be retained after a poor showing v Mayo? Has Tony Brosnan or Killian Spillane a chance of starting?

One of the real BS terms, a "natural" forward.

Jack Barry to have Fenton in his pocket again.

Bar Con and maybe Kilkenny how many Dub forwards would get in Kerry team?

2 great football counties and it's always a big occasion rightly. However they are also 2 of the most cynical, physical counties but that always gets buried in the hype and build up. Biting, gouging, headbutting, fighting, dirty hits, off the ball incident have followed this fixture around for decades and it's been part of what makes it so exciting. Of course you will NEVER hear any of this on The Sunday Game or in any other parts of the media. That sort of forensic examination is only reserved for "Nordie" sides. "You know what they're like...and all that".

D Clifford and S O'Shea, C Kilkenny and Con, all would definitely make a combination 6 fwds, after that C Costello and P Clifford can have really good days but not always, not a lot between the rest.

There'll be a lot of eyes on Sunday's match and to be fair some columists all across the country started to catch onto what was happening in the last number of weeks. This game will be given forensic analysis in many quarters.

Lets hope there isn't any sort of melee though as there was in their league game, that would cause a lot of awkwardness that all media or CCCC would find hard not to comment/react to. What it's worth and hopefully I'm wrong I think there will be incidents in the two semi finals this weekend.

As for the game I don't think it'll prove to be game of the weekend, Galway and Derry will be a better game but it should still be a great watch!

Dublin are in transition and we haven't seen them at their best for two years; for Kerry they've been building from underage structures up, have the manager that started that back at the helm, it's 2014 since they won an All Ireland and Dublin's success will have hurt Kerry more than any other county.

It's an amateur sport but Kerry football lives on success, pressure on them is huge and it really is a must win game, if they can't beat Dublin whilst they're in transition where does Kerry football go!

My view is we're going to see Dublin close to their best and despite a huge Kerry performance, Dublin will win this by 5 plus.

Fenton would have Jack Barry in his pocket too if it wasn't full of All Ireland medals !

Looking forward to a great game between these 2 giants. Hopefully we won't see teams being overly defensive. Plenty of excellent forwards on both teams to cause damage

I m laughing at all the comments on the mental state of both teams. Alot of pundits claim its now or never for Kerry and if Dublin lose they are finished. Bull on both counts. In fact the loser will still be one of the favourites to win Sam next year. If Kerry lose what happens? Do Clifford and Seanie Shea retire? No! Does Jack go? No! Are Kerry capable of winning next year? Yes! On Dublin. If they lose are they finished? No and are we'll capable of winning next year. On pressure. The only one under pressure is Dessie as he might go although I think it would be unfair. People are too quick to write off the losers but then again paper never refused ink. Many had Dubs written off after the league. Crazy. Mayo written off too many times to mention. The winner tomorrow will be favourites for Sam but the losers are going nowhere. Best of luck to both teams tomorrow

Like everyone I'm really looking forward to this. Going with the Dubs by 4-5 but a lot hinges on O'Callaghan

You'd be a serious labourer with shoulders like that. Must be exhausting carrying them chips around.

I don't think either will have much to worry about with Galway or Derry.
