The tricolour has been hijacked by out and out racists. Go on Twitter and see. Any account with a tricolour in the bio has it there for a reason. You think people just randomly started flying the flag in their gardens recently? For no reason? I have had conversations with eejits putting them up lampposts. Absolute dopes who haven't a clue what they are talking about. Our flag has been hijacked and it's embarrassing. TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 8550 - 11/10/2025 16:53:05 2639336 Link 1 |
Flags come in waves it seems: whether the Ukraine Flag, Pride Flag, French Flag after the Charlie Hedbo thing, etc. I don't think there's any harm meant though sometimes it's spurred on by something. Did you ever try asking these people why they post/ hoist any given flag?

Did I ever ask them? Did you even read my post ? Please stop trying to pretend these flag hoisters are not as they seem. Same as the lads on Twitter with the flag in their bios. Absolute dopes.

The Irish right wingers and facists have thrown in their lot with Loyalists, BNP and Combat 18 types. Thats who they take their lead from now. If it wasn't so serious it'd be hilarious that they've joined up with organisations that have killed and injured Irish people just for being Irish.

So how do normal people take back our flag? It's not a crime to fly your national flag & be proud of your country.

What really needs to happen is the implementation of a Palestinian state and the reversal of Israeli plantations in the West Bank. A lot of credit going to the US for achieving a ceasefire. What sort of world do we live in when the biggest enabler of Israeli genocide is praised for finally forcing a halt to that genocide after two years. It's the least they could do. A lot of talk about lasting peace in the middle. No mention of Palestinian sovereignty. Sounds like just going back to the regime before Oct 7th attacks, minus Hamas. What has happened in Palestine is very similar to what happened in Ireland from the Elizabethan conquests through to the brutal Cromwellian conquest in the 1600s. I think that common sense of past injustice is why a lot of Irish people are sympathetic to the Palestinian cause. FullOfPorter (Roscommon) - Posts: 402 - 11/10/2025 22:46:37 2639400 Link 0 |
Take back our flag? What rubbish are you talking. Absolute eejits who think they are more Irish than me because they suddenly want the national flag everywhere? Ask them about their role in their community and what they have done for their people and culture. The majority do sweet all but claim to be proud Irishmen. Embarrassing.

I guess to him it is a crime. He is painting everyone that hoists an Irish Flag as racists, eejits, dopes, etc. I don't know why it bothers him so much. I don't fly flags or have bumper stickers but I'm not having a tantrum when others choose to. He must really hate the Olympics or when Ireland is playing Rugby, etc. I'm sad for him.

Same people who are attacking flying the tricolour as racist now are same sort of people who attacked it as signalling support for the Provos 30 years ago. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3716 - 12/10/2025 09:27:16 2639423 Link 4 |
Have you ever questioned anyone hoisting a flag that wasn't the Irish tricolour? If so, I'm Interested to hear how you describe those people. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6597 - 12/10/2025 11:36:51 2639432 Link 1 |
Do you think a Palestinian state will solve the issue? I don't have strong views either way, I actually think the issue there is not solvable. I applaud anyone who brings peace to the region (Republican, Democrat, anyone) but we have seen this play out before. Bill Clinton brought Peace there in 1993, getting Rabin and Arafat to shake hands in Oslo. That peace lasted 7 years. A change of US President can be exploited by both parties. The least thing can set the region off. I think you have two groups who exist to wipe the other off the map. My fear is that once peace descends there will be thousands of people grieving atrocities and putting ourselves in their shoes, isn't it difficult to sit silently without thinking of revenge? Israel will continue doing work on the ground to create their enemy's enemy. When Arafat was in power Israel helped Hamas to gain leverage over the PLO. Now they are helping Hamas's enemies there. Towards the end of Arafat's life there was a sense that he was losing control. The 2000 uprising just ratcheted things up and by the time he died the void of his death enabled Hamas to gain control. Netenyahu getting back into power made a war of the scale we have seen, inevitable. The vast majority of the man's life has been about overseeing war. I understand what you say about Irish people feeling solidarity with Palestine but I think that can be mistaken for a justification of October 7th. My own view is what happened on October 7th 2023 was disgusting. What happened since was disgraceful. I'm not pro or anti either side. I think the level of savagery on both sides is depressing. This current peace may last five or ten years, but I think it will fall apart again at some point. I really hope I'm wrong. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6597 - 12/10/2025 12:07:26 2639435 Link 2 |
A 2 State solution, which most people like except Israel and Palestine, is similar to the India-Pakistan Partition. Both of these countries have nuclear weapons. Having similar firepower is a disincentive for war. suckvalleypaddy (Galway) - Posts: 1766 - 12/10/2025 13:12:42 2639442 Link 1 |
I really am enjoying the lads who claim the sudden love of our flag has nothing to do with immigration. Congrats on being more Irish because you hoist a tricolour. Yawn. TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 8550 - 12/10/2025 13:14:35 2639443 Link 1 |
And i am not an open borders person either. But please stop pretending people who have a sudden love for the tricolour are sensible thinking people. Twitter will show they are not. At least own what you are instead of claiming you have a sudden love for Irish culture. TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 8550 - 12/10/2025 13:19:48 2639444 Link 0 |
Upon reflection, I believe flying a tricolor in Ireland is not racist. The 1916 Proclamation on my wall clearly defines Irish citizenship in an inclusive way. I am fine with those who are against the Irish flag because they are entitled to an opinion. It is not a left-right issue. Do our loyal supporters in Lisbon have to hide the flags coming through Dublin airport? maroondiesel (Mayo) - Posts: 1242 - 12/10/2025 13:22:36 2639445 Link 2 |
I'll say it again. Go on Twitter and find the tricolour accounts. Reasonable people they are not.

This doesn't answer the question I asked you though. If you don't have an answer then can we assume that you include @ShsneLowryGolf in your assessment? slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6597 - 12/10/2025 13:35:22 2639451 Link 1 |
So it is 2 flags that you have issue with?
