New Meath Manager

Bernard Flynn's tweet is embarrassing and not surprising. Exact same thing as the 20's. Making it about himself and not Meath football. Not agreement was in place regarding the 20's players missing senior championship, and as per newstalk this morning and what I know about the caliber of the management committee he was indeed informed. His spat with Andy certainty contributed to the vote to axe Andy which hurt the county team for 2021 and he torpedo'd the 2020 under 20's doing a poor job and leaving 2 weeks prior to championship. He was before my time but by all accounts a phenomenal player and anybody who plays for Meath deserves respect and winners with Meath deserve even more. But he's done serious harm to Meath the last 2 years and very little good

Bernard Flynn was a legend. It is natural that if he wanted the job he would be disappointed about not getting it. Also natural to be annoyed about hearing it on social media first. He might reflect that for something like this all it takes is a leak and it goes like wildfire and can get out while the message to him was not yet delivered. I Dont feel his annoyance reflects anything out of the order

He didn't hear it first on social media in terms of not getting the job: he was informed and thanked for his interest and effort. If you ask him directly he will acknowledge this. He was rang on Monday between 11.30-1pm like all candidates. He was not entitled to know who got it.

He also did not need to name drop Rochford in his first tweet. It's bang out of order end of story.

I should add that the reason it's bang out of order is Meath gaa and the county board is in the headlines today because of his tweets which don't reflect the actual situation, there is a reason no other candidate has taken to social media, it's not how to do business regardless of his disappointment which is absolutely understandable

He didn't hear on social media... that is the point. He was informed by phone call that he was unsuccessful. What is wrong with that.

Delegates know the agreed back room team but it just isn't public/agreements signed with them all but they know who agreed to join Colm. Standard process as they wouldn't agree to join unless Colm was manager etc"
That clears all that up so.

Why is it bang out of order Joe, he applied for the job and was not informed who got it ahead of him.. he's entitled to his opinion.

Replying To Proudroyal:  "Well Royaldunne, looking at your posts on the Meath forum and national forum,it seems chalk and cheese. On the national forum you claim Meath supporters are inpatient lot and say Colm o Rourke must be given time.Hopefully a leinster in 3 years and Sam within 5 years. On the Meath forum you say promotion is key in his first year and the pressure should be on from the start.I am not having a pop at you at all as you seem like a genuine Meath supporter but they are fairly contrasting.I get what you're saying promotion should be the objective every year (sure Colm is the same)but we have to look at where we are.We could have easily been relegated last year last minute goal v Offaly and v Down they hit the upright with the last play of the game.We then beat Wicklow in the championship and then v Dublin the game was over after 10 mins. Then we go to Clare a fellow division 2 team and let's be honest we could have lost that by 10 or more points and couldn't complain. Its a massive job Colm and his team have ahead of them.it will take time for players to understand his gameplan, strategy and all that goes with it.I think sam within 5 years is asking alot (not to say we couldn't do it)a leinster within three maybe more realistic(again maybe) but again while Dublin have comeback a bit they were only a kick of a ball away from this years final.COR is under enough pressure from outside the county,he has been critical of systems, playing styles etc over the years so people will say can he back up his talk without us heaping more pressure on him.Of course we want Meath back at the top but it's not going to happen overnight,CoR doesn't have magic dust and suddenly we are world beaters.I think we as supporters have to be really patient and as long as we see some progress we should stick by him.My big worry is the county board going back on what Colm wants in 6 months, year and he walks then we will be in the ****.I would agree the main thing is promotion to division 1 but staying there is the key.If after 4,5 years if we are established division 1 team, won a leinster it would be a big success. While no doubt Colm will want to land Sam,leinsters, I think nurturing the young lads will be just as important to him as he has been doing that all his life with his job. This is a big crossroads in Meath football and hopefully Colm is thinking longterm like he was with his Plans years ago when county board said they didnt have the money. If he gets the structure s right hopefully we will see the benefit for years to come.On another point another poster and yourself made about people deserting the team maybe coming back and not been welcomed, it happens to every county just look at Galway this year.We had it back in the 80s and 90s as well.If people(who haven't been in a years or at all) want to go to games and bring their kids with them I'd say why not ?maybe the kids get hooked and will want to play for Meath when older, again that is my opinion on it and you are certainly entitled to yours which I can understand as well."
First off. Promotion should ALWAYS be the objective. It is the only way we will progress. We WILL NOT WIN a Leinster unless we are playing against the best teams in division one, and my comments on national forum were specifically related to CHAMPIONSHIP, I mean even in ur summarising you can't say I said anything about league on national forum. Cause I didn't. So no contradiction there. I don't know how you could say there is. Yes I firmly believe that Colm and the team will target promotion next year and to say otherwise is doing the man a huge disservice. As on any programs he always says that if you want to progress you need to be in division one football, why would he change that now ??? Id love to know why you think he'd be happy with midtable div 2 or worse ?? Many of the players he will have already have division one experience as well as super 8s.
It seems like it's a case of getting the excuses in early by those who berated Andy. I'll say the same as I did last year. Promotion is a Must. Leinster and all ire are beyond us for next 3/5 years. Hopefully that clears up my position and sorry if I confused you. It wasn't my intention

Replying To brian:  "Notice someone is talking about usual suspects and then setting a goal of promotion in year one already. His hero, Andy McEntee himself said we didn't have the panel to compete in division one and that losing is just as easy a habit to pick up as winning. Whats the point of being in division when a team sin't ready for it.

2023 will be about Colm building his panel, rebuilding their fitness and S&C to higher level than they're currently are, figuring out where the pieces fit in, what their game plans (and they'll need multiple of them) are, his team's style of play, systems and players who fit within that are all about. Year 2, 2024 will be where you'd hope to see a marked improvement and jump in standards and as is in his terms, there'll be a review carried out after year 2. By 2025 he should have a lot of the 2020 and 2021 minors available to him as Keoghan, Menton and the class of 2012 roll off, hopefully we should be in a good place by then and can grow from that. 2025 might see a dip as those minors come online and so long as there's not huge drop off you'd hope there might be a second term."
Andy mcentee my hero ? You really do talk some load of rubbish

That's normal course not to find out who got it, I certainly never have… he's entitled to his opinion but as was rightly reported on newstalk and others he was liberal with his words including leaking his back room team to cause a fuss. I didn't expect RD to comment as he knows BF but his comment says it all, it's very disappointing. If you think what he did was reasonable and not bringing negative news to the county for no reason other than himself I don't know where to Start.

He has no right to know who got it ahead of him and the CB or any employer are not obliged to tell him or any unsuccessful candidate who got it ahead of them. It would be very uncommon for an unsuccessful candidate to be informed in the phone call who got it ahead of them.

Anyway if you look at the numerous articles that were published yesterday by national newspapers and media sites where they all say BF found out on twitter that he did not get the job (which is not true) BF got exactly what he wanted when he posted that tweet. As one journalist said yesterday about his tweet the choice of language was "liberal" . In other words he worded it so that people would think he found out on the twitter that he didn't get the job.

And if you look at the comments on these articles about how the Meath CB are a disgrace and are unprofessional and how that is no way to treat anyone or no way to find out it's mission accomplished for BF.

For a man who claims to purely have Meath footballs best interests at heart he was more than happy to stir the s##t with a totally misleading tweet.

Nailed it.... Also in all this drama and messing we've nearly all forgotten that the man has almost zero managerial experience in the last 15/20 years . Good or bad backroom team aside the man in charge needs to have sufficient experience of doing the job .

If he was not a meath playing legend would and gone looking for the job with his managerial experience or lack of it he wouldn't have got the near the interview stage.

Yes and he has a good reputation in GAA circles as a promising coach, I wasn't aware myself to be fair but a referee who would be fairly good with his knowledge told me that.

Good to hear. Also he is going in as a selector so coaching is not essential for him . Hopefully he will learn off whoever COR is bringing in as his coaching team as well.
