Replying To Thejoeshow:  "Very disappointed that BF felt the need to go public with that tweet last night to bring negative attention to the county at a time of positivity. He was aware he didn't get it. His first tweet that he deleted was worse and I would seriously question his motives, nothing to with Meath gaa and all to do with himself, a shame."
Not that it needed pointing out, but his tweets last night sums up why he was never a credible candidate for this job.

Maybe asking too much in year one, good interview with COR in todays Chronicle where he addresses this and many other points that have been highlighted on here by various posters. All sounds very positive from a man who is under no illision of the job ahead.

Replying To Blackspot09:  "I agree. I have been one of his biggest critics on here since the u20 debacle last year. I questioned his motives time and time again. Tweets like that one last night particularly the first one confirm my opinions on him and his motives and why I was totally against him getting the senior job from day 1."
Couldn't agree more and was of the same opinion as you all the way.

Replying To brian:  "It was a classless thing from someone who I'd have held in high regard. People don't get jobs every day of the week and never hear why they don't get them and in a lot of cases aren't even told they've been unsuccessful after an interview. No need to jump on Twitter about it."
Especially as his claim was false, another example of BF spinning a narrative; he was aware he didn't get it before twitter and to throw rochfords name in to create a buzz seems malicious.

Notice someone is talking about usual suspects and then setting a goal of promotion in year one already. His hero, Andy McEntee himself said we didn't have the panel to compete in division one and that losing is just as easy a habit to pick up as winning. Whats the point of being in division when a team sin't ready for it.

2023 will be about Colm building his panel, rebuilding their fitness and S&C to higher level than they're currently are, figuring out where the pieces fit in, what their game plans (and they'll need multiple of them) are, his team's style of play, systems and players who fit within that are all about. Year 2, 2024 will be where you'd hope to see a marked improvement and jump in standards and as is in his terms, there'll be a review carried out after year 2. By 2025 he should have a lot of the 2020 and 2021 minors available to him as Keoghan, Menton and the class of 2012 roll off, hopefully we should be in a good place by then and can grow from that. 2025 might see a dip as those minors come online and so long as there's not huge drop off you'd hope there might be a second term.

My uncle (mayo man) who would have good connections in the county for these things believes Rochford is part of a ticket being put together for the Mayo job so unlikely to be in with Flynn!

I wouldn't have thought either of the two boys would have been selector/coach candidates under Bernard. Both would have been stronger candidates as the outright manager IF they were interested; certainly Rochford anyway and arguably Brennan too.

Still don't understand why he would lie about it either IF there was no merit to it but then why remove and re-word the tweet almost like for like. All a bit bizarre and doesn't reflect well on Bernard at all who seems to be doing his best to tarnish his great reputation with Meath supporters.

Not disagreeing with this but i believe others did get calls to inform them they were unsuccessful which is only correct, why leave him out ? , there is a way of handling things and treating everyone equally is the correct thing to do. Also i find it a bit strange that delegates were asked to ratify Colm when we only know a fraction of what his vitally important backroom team will be. If it is as mooted then this is great news for Meath football, if it's not......

All candidates, including Bernard Flynn, were phoned and informed that they were not successful in getting the job, prior to it being announced that Colm O'Rourke was chosen. It was not disclosed to them who was successful, as is standard practice for any job application process in any walk of life. More headlines being created by BF that are of his own making. Paper never refused ink.

BF got a call to let him know he just wasn't told who was successful, BF got the exact same call/treatment but felt he should have been told who got it which no candidate did.

Delegates know the agreed back room team but it just isn't public/agreements signed with them all but they know who agreed to join Colm. Standard process as they wouldn't agree to join unless Colm was manager etc

I think so, I have respect for BF or anyone who goes for the job as it can be thankless but this sort of carry on is ridiculous and would have surfaced if he was successful.

Was his issue that he didn't know it was Colm O Rourke appointed until it was posted on twitter or that he thought he was still in the running until he saw the social media post? There's a difference. Can sympathize with the latter, not so much the former. Dropping names to show the team he had with him wasn't a great move really. Makes me review my opinion on the u21 s**tshow.

Correct. Flynn, along with all the other candidates, was called on Monday morning, thanked for his interest and told he hadn't been successful.

Nobody was told who the choice was because the CB didn't want any leaks - and they were 100% right.

Reflects very poorly on Flynn really to react like that. In what other sphere do unsuccessfully applicants get told who got the job?

Disappointing also to see RTÉ and others running this story without having checked the facts properly.

I'm sure Meath GAA are tempted to set the record straight, but probably better off saying nothing.

He wasn't left out. That is the point.

The CB did everything by the book and in the correct manner on this occasion.

BFs tweet is very misleading. Intentionally or unintentionally I will leave for others to make up their own mind up on that but it certainly implied that he found out he didn't get the job when he saw on twitter that COR was getting it. That clearly wasn't the case.

Certainly what has come out of this is that the right call was made in not offering him the job.

Yes it unfortunately reflects poorly. Best leave it at that.
