Tailteann Cup Attendances

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I think this competition has had a number of high points already
Does anyone know attendances for games already played
I know Carlow got decent crowds at both games in DCP

However totally wrong having Semis in Croke park - should be home advantage - would create great atmosphere in Sligo, Cavan, Tullamore or Mullingar - probably looking at 10k or more
Croke Park will be like a morgue and worst on TV

Nearly 4k for Cavan v Down, maybe 5k or so at Fermanagh v Cavan (can't find official attendance). Thing is, the whole selling point of the competition is that you get your semis and final at Croker in front of the RTE cameras. I get where you're coming from, but this is how it was sold. The lower tiers only open for now, expecting up to 30k, but I'd say it'll be around 20k.

Fewer than 1,000 in Portlaoise for Laois vs Westmeath. Totally agree re venue like Tullamore or Breffni for semi. Boost to local businesses too

Croke Park assured counties of the games being in Croke Park is the issue at the semi final stage so going back on that now would undermine the comp. In its first year I guess they need to stick to regulation and try and fix next year. No doubt smaller venues for these semi final games would be better to give the matches an atmosphere

The players want to be playing in Croke Park. The tournament is being given that level of respect. Rome wasn't built in a day. Qualifying for the Sam Maguire 16 is a big reward.
The McDonagh Cup is in it's 5th year and has probably been the tournament of the year, if there was such an award! The Tailteann by the way is getting great marketing coverage. McDonagh counties will rightly be jealous.

~ 1000 in Pearse Park at Longford v Fermanagh. Poor atmosphere.

I'm a Tailteann Cup fan, I think it is essential for a county like mine, but locals will need to embrace it and come out in numbers to support their side rather than bemoan how it all ended in a disaster that they will have played their part in causing via their absence. Can't have it every way lads.

Almost every Tom Dick and Harry has played in Croke park at this stage, it affords a competition no real respect at all imo.
In fact, performing in front of 75 000 empty seats if anything just highlights how insignificant most people view it.
Better off having the final televised, in a small, full ground, where the atmosphere won't resemble a ghost town.

A double header in Pairc Tailteann might have been a great call for this game, only Sligo are not a neighbouring county. i think there was good qualifier double header in 2019 featuring kildare v fermanagh and laois v monaghon which brought a great crowd. i cant see westmeath v offaly bringing more than 5,000 to croke park and cavan v sligo maybe 5000-7000 so looking at around 12,000 max in croker which will be a disaster. only ever maybe 7,000 in there all together as westmeath and offaly wont go to first game and sligo and cavan prob gone after their own game.

The Junior and Inter club finals aren't a "disaster" with 3 or 4k at most there.
Same with Ring, Rackard and Meagher Finals.

That May by true for a county like Galway that has a huge advantage as the largest Population in their province. But for other counties that don't have benefit of opportunity on a silver platter every this isn't the case. Most players from counties with smaller populations think it is a privilege.

The organisers have followed the promises and for that they should be applauded.
Imagine the uproar had these games not been played at Croke Park. You can't please some people.

It was voted in at congress that the semi finals and final would be played in Croke Park so they have no choice but to follow through on what has been agreed.

Only lower Hoganstand open for the double header semi final on July 19th will be interesting to see can that section be filled.

Tell that to the club footballers and hurlers who on club finalday get to play in Croke Park in front of their family, neighbours and friends and tv cameras. Or to the kids who get their day out at the blitz......to all of these appearing in Croke Park means everything!

Pricing for earlier rounds of Tailtean cup have been too dear .

In saying that any football supporter of Cavan,Sligo,Offaly & Westmeath should be attending a knockout semi final in croke park.

For neutrals it really lifts the profile of the competition as many will watch some or at least know the games weer on and creates quite a bit of awareness .

Why would it mean everything tho?
You can call it the "hallowed turf" etc but when kids get to play their little blitzes there as you mentioned you just know there's nothing special about it anymore.

Big county privilege. Just because it means nothing to you. It smacks of arrogance. Do you you think it's possible that other people feel differently than you about the experience of playing in croker. Leitrim senior footballers played there in 2019 division 4 final. It drew a huge crowd (relative to our population). It was a fantastic occasion for us with old friends meeting up and supporting our county there. Perhaps your attitude is indicative of why your senior team playing in a croke park with no atmosphere.
