Time For Someone In GAA Authority To Say STOP

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The stats for the Leinster Senior Football Chamoonship are stark as everyone already knows.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leinster_Senior_Football_Championship

17 out of the last 18 championships won by Dublin. They have a population similar to all the other counties combined - they have 61 titles almost three times the next nearest county, Meath, and the number of titles exceeds the combination of all counties except Meath.

Attendance looked to be poor yesterday, even though the game was played alongside the Ladies final.

If ANY of the powers that be in the GAA are reading this then can you answer this question:

How many titles in a row do Dublin need to win before you do something about this competition?

12?, 15?, 20?,25?

Or is it a head in the sand job with no real concern for the overall health of football in the province?

And yet counties outside Leinster with smaller populations and access to fewer amenities manage to compete if not beat Dublin in the latter stages of the tournament. Similarly, how many Leinster teams are going to be in Division 1 next year? The problem lies with Leinster football, not the competition as a whole. Sort yerselves out and don't be looking to HQ to step in.

I'd say the best thing to do is get Dublin to join the Ulster Championship. They won't win too many titles there. Then the rest of the underachieving losing teams in Leinster can start winning at last.

I'm not saying nothing should be done but how can a county like Mayo with a small population than most, if not all the counties in Leinster compete and beat Dublin yet counties in Leinster can't keep the ball kicked out to Dublin - why?

Also a number of Leinster counties are able to compete and beat Dublin at underage in the province yet a couple of years later the same counties can't compete with much the same players involved - why?

Gaa cares about dublin maybe kerry and mayo but the rest can go away.
Go back to the 80s 90s 00s every province was competitive in football very little hidings being given out, yes the royalty of the game still won the majority of titles but not like now.
This all correlates with all the rule changes one that I think caused the most damage was the 5 sub rule. This eventually led to the negative football we see today as weaker counties who try to hold teams and then get over run when the top tier teams bring on their 5 high end players that others cannot.

There's a bit to go before we catch Kerry's haul of provincial titles or even All-Ireland titles.

They were beaten once in the championship in the past 7 years by teams outside Leinster too. Hardly a balanced reflection there

So ship teams out instead of trying to raise the standard? Sure the leinster championship would be a bigger joke then.

They would dominate Ulster like they have in Leinster.

Mayo and Kerry in recent years have been genuinely competitive in a few matches against Dublin. Donegal beat them in 2014. There have been few teams who have got close to them outside Leinster in the championship in recent years.
Talking about HQ stepping in, HQ supported you when your Salthill ground was upgraded, they don't seem to want to support us with any plans to upgrade Pairc Tailteann.

Ye heathen unbeliever ye. Do you not know we are living in privileged times and so unworthy are we that us mere mortals shouldn't even be allowed to look directly at the Dublin Gods. You are hereby banished and sentenced to 6 months in a re-education camp far up in the Dublin mountains. You will only be allowed to return when you can sing every bar of Molly Malone in an authentic Brendan Behan accent.

Football around the country is gone very bad. There is no Leinster or Munster championships. The 2 finals were dreadful. Galway and Roscommon was ok but at no point did you think Galway wouldn't win it. The Ulster final was absolutely terrible. The style of play in that watch would put you to sleep. There are a lot of problems in football. With all the tinkering they have done with rules and formats for the Championship it seems a complete mess. I don't know where you would begin to start fixing it but, looking forward how many competitive games are on the horizon. I see Kerry and Dublin Final and do not see either having much trouble getting there. The GAA made changes for the sake of change without addressing some of the real problems.

Yesterday Kerry enjoyed home advantage in the Munster final.
Dublin always enjoy home advantage. So much money pumped into Dublin and Dubs are keeping away! What a way to get a return on the excessively unfair financial investment, including State Aid!!

Dublin have lost 1 championship game in 8 years. So it's fair to say they're dominating the all too. They've handed out some major thumpings to provincial champions like Galway Cavan Monaghan.
Kerry perhaps have a chance against the Division 2 outfit when they meet in the semi-final

Absolute rubbish. Dublin have consistently walloped Ulster teams :
Eg Monaghan by 17 points in 2014
Cavan by 15 points in 2020.

They have had good wins in games against other Ulster teams too. Beat Fermanagh, Donegal, and Tyrone apart from Monaghan and Cavan in 2015/6/7/8/9 by a minimum of 5 points each time also. Although truth be told that 6 in a row team was exceptional and beat pretty much everyone apart from Mayo well.

I couldn't see Dublin winning 11 Ulster titles in a row in Clones by an average margin of 15 points or so.
If the Leinster championship is to be continued, then the Leinster Council have to do something radical, would you not agree. Why should other provincial championships now be in jeopardy because of such denial

To be fair, I get the mans point. You've got 2 examples there, and in Croker in later stages of Championship and which were nosebleed territory for those 2 teams at that time. If Dublin had Derrys runs this year, or Cavan's run 2020, they'd get it harder, playing multiple Division 1 sides away from home, and the chances of being caught on an off day would be higher. If they had to travel to Ballybofey, Omagh, Clones and such, they'd not walk the Championship every year. They'd be in a bear pit weekly, and would get challenges. Likely still win it often mind you, but would get it harder.
