jimbodub correct.... trough out history the Irish people have only growen stronger when the foe tried to knock us back. Like a Pheonix rising from the ashes, we always rise above the oppressor an her supporters and hold our heads high! Like wild creeping flowers, the faster you pluck them, the quicker they seem to grow.

Well they're pointing it correctly.

dergboi: It's just the view of one poster... there's been plenty who have expressed their sympathies too... myself included.

I never condoned this act - I said it would be better to see what caused it and now it appears to be arson. I am gutted for all club members in St John's, Castlewellan. I totally condemn this act as I would any other such act by anybody anywhere as I am sure the wider community do also - on both sides. I hope they are given every assistance in getting their clubhouse up and running again - and they should get help with this from relevant authorities. I don't go in for the Gael thing at all and find it amusing that people tell me I know nothing about things when they don't know me from Adam. I do not condone any type of violence period. Again best wishes to St Johns and if there is a fund started (maybe one of you guys want to start it?) I would gladly contribute.

Keano if I interpreted your comments the wrong way then I apologise but it can sometimes be hard to decipher if someone is being sarcastic or not through the written word. By the way my ilk is the GAA and it's members.

We have a few runners-up medals Fredthered, that's correct. We have a few winners medals as well - a good few more than they have up in the hills of Donegal!

Take you petty little comments elsewhere. This is a topic about a serious subject and you tried to take the P with comments about trophies. Why don't you leave this one to the grown ups.

dublinmeath

i think the problem arose when you were being sarcastic suggesting why northern nationalists would automatically think it was loyalists and arsonists. if you knew anything about the north you would know why we would jump to this conclusion. You're attitude of why we dont come out to condemn the burning of orange halls was more or less suggesting what goes around comes around.

Not my intention Samin. As said genuinely sorry for St Johns club and will gladly contribute if I see an opportunity - will leave it at that.

Police suspect arsonists were behind a fire which destroyed a GAA clubhouse in County Down, causing damage put at more than £100,000.

Firefighters were called to St John's clubhouse at Drumnaquoile, near Castlewellan, at about 0700 BST.

Last week, a nearby Orange hall was daubed with sectarian graffiti, and some believe this was a revenge attack.

Police said they could not confirm a sectarian motive at this stage. It is not yet known what started the fire.

That is from the News web site.

Terrible thing, but happens all the time.

Young hoods/thugs decide to destroy something. If it is an Orange Hall or GAA club it is described as sectarian. It is not, it is mindless vandalism. These thugs do not belong to any organisations, and are condemned by said organisations.

Where I live we have a Catholic Reactionary Force. No-one knows what they are reacting to. They wrecked a local school (Catholic) the library (non denominational) all the bus shelters and anything else they can find.

In the so called "Loyalist" estate, same thing.

I feel for the club members, but making a large sectarian song and dance out of it is the surest way of making sure it happens again.

A woman and a man have been arrested and tens of thousands of pounds seized in a raid on an illegal fuel dump in west Belfast.

The dump, which had been under surveillance for months, was located in an industrial estate between the Crumlin and Shankill roads.

The fuel had been brought in from the Republic via south Armagh, where it was laundered.

More news from the North, but it does show that many are working together across the religious divide.
