It's only a couple of seasons ago that Galway topped the Div 1 table with 6 wins and 1 draw. And if memory serves me right promotion was secured with a game to spare the last time Galway played in Div 2. 10 points is normally the total that gains promotion and looking at Galway opening 5 fixtures: Meath (H) Down (A) Offaly (H) Cork (A) Clare (H) a strong possibility that Galway will get at least 8 points from those fixtures Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3599 - 18/01/2022 17:39:39 2395489 Link 0 |
I can tell you that your predictions will be wrong. I'm that confidence they will be wrong I'll be willing to have a wager with you. I'll put 1000 on and you put 50 on and the winner takes all. I'm serious on this. Any interest. With a push I could be 5000 on and you still put 50 on and winner takes all. leitrimforsam (Leitrim) - Posts: 85 - 18/01/2022 18:31:42 2395496 Link 0 |

It's 4 years since we topped the Division 1 table. Only 5 of the starting 15 from that year's League final are still on the panel. It might as well have been a decade ago, with that kind of turnover. Last year the only team we beat in League or Championship was Roscommon. We were hammered by Kerry, beaten comfortably enough by Dublin and edged out by Monaghan. We then fell well short against Mayo in the Connacht Final. That form is far more relevant than what happened 4 years ago with a vastly different team and different management set up. Division 2 is the place for us at the moment and I'd expect most of our games to be competitive and tight. I'd be hopeful of promotion but the priority is to get meaningful games for this team. I see a lot of posters are tipping Clare for religation from div 2 are Clare gone back that much? I remember they gave Mayo plenty of trouble last year in fairness to them. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 24/01/2022 14:39:54 2396229 Link 0 |
Aye and I've heard that Clare gave Mayo their fill of it in a recent challenge match. Clare are no mugs.

Loads of people predicting Derry to get promoted to division 1. I think I'd agree too, they're a strong side. The one thing holding them back a bit is the lack of a real scorer to reduce the burden on Shane McGuigan. Anyone know if they've anyone coming through who might deliver in the full forward line this year? Enda Downey was supposed to be impressing in the McKenna cup but got injured. Lachlan Murray another player they were trying in the McKenna Cup is very young only a second year u20 this year. Matthew Downey the All Ireland minor winning captain is more of a half forward. Callum Brown if he came back from Australia would be a big addition at full forward but that won't happen this year anyway. Great to see Derry on the way back up anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing a bit of them in the league. Glass, McFaul, McGuigan, McKinless, McKaigue and Bradley are excellent players.
