Worst Monaghan performance I've ever seen.

Horrible performance but hopefully a wake up call for some posters on this forum. This is the new reality for Monaghan. Our days dining at the top table are finished.

2022 Monaghan 1.12 Kerry 3.14
2023 Monaghan 0.14 Kerry 3.16

Just like 2022 then.

There are sadly around half of that monaghan team today shouldn't be anywhere near inter county football. O hanlon and bannigan tried their best but the team has nothing inside to threaten teams at the moment. Jones being injured at same time as Jack is bad luck. Midfield is div 4 standard and the less said about the defence the better. Vinny should use the rest of the league to experiment. Supporters will need to be v patient.

Was the performance in 2022 much better?
The second half against Cavan in 2020 will live long as the worst Monaghan performance by the way.

Terrible performance but the scary thing is it could have been a lot worse..could have been 20pts.. our warriors in defense like Wylie, Boyle and Duffy look leggy and the yard of pace is gone..midfield is non existent.. up front we have a few passengers playing and the bench is terribly poor, lads on the squad to hold tackle bags and fill up numbers..take away the mullet and your left with a very average player.. people can point to the fact we were missing players but no one to come back in to tighten up a very poor defense...the pitch invasions from the last 2 years of staying up in div 1 seem a distant memory at this stage..better off going div 2 and let lads find their feet...
On a positive note o Hanlon looked very sharpe today which bodes well...

Was thinking exactly the same. Trying to play keep ball for 30 mins and throwing away a lead was much worse.

One if the big problems today was the amount of possession given away around half forward line through incomplete passes. Very disheartening

Considering we played against a Kerry team with Sean O & the two cliffords (3-6 between them) on their way to winning the double that day in 2022, I'd say that yes the performance last year was better.

Second half against Cavan is right up there but very different circumstances.

Today we lacked any sign of a plan, were terrible at the basics and were destroyed in around our full back line.

Can't see players or Vinny being as patient.

Throwing away a winnable match with a strong team against Cavan in 2020 was worse. We have severely limited resources to work with now. O Hanlon was outstanding today , but not many other highlights beyond that.

Considering Monaghan were playing at home with a full deck of players and a settled set-up i'd argue 2022 was a lot worse. But yes as the consensus says here, 2020 Cavan was the all time low.

Same in 2018 when fermanagh knocked us out of ulster at semi final stages.

O Hanlon and Bannigan only 2 players playing today that look inter County standard.

Unfair to judge monaghan today. playing a super team who will dominate most of this decade ahead. Monaghan are in transition totally, major rebuild on the cards, vinnie needs time. The glory days are over for the time being I'm afraid

What does it say? Don't give empty statements without backing it up. What players from Magheracloone should be starting? None. Kilanny? None. Corduff? None. Donaghmoyne? Garland isn't on the panel for personal reasons. Inniskeen? Jones not fit to start due to injury. Carrick? O'Hanlon started. If you can name me any players from South Monaghan that would improve what we saw out there, you're not watching the same sport that I've been watching the last few years.
As if the management team care in the slightest whether lads are north / south Monaghan

2hanrattys inniskeen
Woods inniskeen
Grimes killanny
Lynch carrick
Mcmenanmin carrick
2garlands dmoyne
Dylan byrne mcloone
9players
5decided not to play under this management
Lets just say the best players are not been picked or deciding not to play and the question is why its very obvious and will become more clear as the year goes on if some of the players are getting game time that played today then the lads above deserve a chance

Maghercloone - paudi mc mahon
Kilanny - Eddie walsh possibly
Corduff - Padraic Keenan, Fergal Hanraty, Conor Mc Enaney
Donaghmoyne - Garland, Liam Mc Donald, Stephen Finegan, Mickey Murnaghan,
Carrick - Karl Mc Menamim, Caolan Martin, Cillian Cromwell, Aaron Lynch

I'm not saying all the players above are starters bar maybe 2 or would even get game time but atleast 4/5 should be on the panel as they'd be better than some of the rift raft on it.

Was at the match. Took Kerry time to settle but the 25 players behind the ball is hard to watch. We can still stay up. We played well in the first twenty minutes when we kicked the ball long

4-5 of the above are a hell of a lot better than Wilson. Pays to have a club man on d line.
