McBennett, Leonard from Eire Og. Connolly from Kilanny - all yes have potential to play county. Very dangerous at club level. Clearly some the best players on the pitch when they play for their clubs. Hanratty from Blayney and Beggan from Clones, not in the same league. Both can be negated at club level to a large extent. As for Deadballmerchant... Players need a year or maybe two years to physically get up to speed. That should be obvious when you see the conditioning of intercounty players. I don't just mean the Monaghan lads that come back to their clubs but if you look at the size of some of the Donegal lads for example. They are monsters. McBennett and Leonard have been on the panel a few years but don't seem to have come through. Only Vinny Corey and Bannigan can answer to that. Would McBennett start in midfield for Scotstown? No chance, so he's not going to start for Monaghan. MonaghanMan44life (Monaghan) - Posts: 87 - 03/07/2025 16:19:20 2623470 Link 0 |
McBennett would 100% start for scotstown would you wise up!!

You're living in dreamland. If he was any good he'd of got games in the league. I doubt there is a conspiracy to keep him out of the team for any other reason than quality. MonaghanMan44life (Monaghan) - Posts: 87 - 03/07/2025 17:55:34 2623492 Link 0 |
Mc Bennett is a different type of footballer to the two lads who are big stong workhorses, he is more of a langan type player.

That's exactly how I see the harps. Going very well with a player or two to come back in as well, intermediate seems to be wide open and the most competitive of all 3 divisions.

Something nobody is mentioning is that we dont have a dirty ball winner ie jinxsy malone k o connell as Farneyblueandwhite (Monaghan) - Posts: 108 - 03/07/2025 19:12:38 2623500 Link 0 |
Bit touchy there fella!! Games that are outliers like that you can't read into them.

Donaghey from D'Moyne springs to mind. Was some addition to the 2013 win. Pure animal and work rate. He'd stick his head where some lads would be afraid to put a foot

Dont embarrass yurself by comparing mc bennet to Langan. Mc Bennett was grand last year when we were riddled with injuries, he was hit and miss, he offered a bit of dynamism about the midfield area but i doubt hes a good worker/Fielder/Tackler like mc carville. I

You are in cuckoo land if you think any team above the bottom 3 in Junior are ' lads just there to get outta the house for a few hours a week'. If you have ever been involved in a club at these levels there is a serious amount of work and dedication going in to preparing for both players and management. Video analysis, tactical set up in training, gym programs, guest coaches, challenge matches all times of the year, meetings to review/preview games and analysis on opposition strengths and weaknesses like who to leave have the ball, who are the main scoring threats, who controls the tempo of the game, their foot preference and tendencies. so based on that we shouldn't pick any junior or intermediate footballers ever? Ryan McAnespie plays for a junior club so shouldn't be pick then! Good old fashioned trolling there. McCarville and McPhillips both played for Scotstown junior league team before making the jump to their seniors and then county.

Ryan McAnespie already plays for Monaghan mate… we are talking about all these county standard players playing club football in juniors and intermediate that are better than what we currently have. My point being, I'd be pretty confident the best players who want to play for Monaghan are in the squad and there is no alternative motive behind not selecting players. Ya ever watch any of these games? 75% of the teams are in no fit state physically to play club football so start there before your "guest coaches"… MonaghanMan44life (Monaghan) - Posts: 87 - 04/07/2025 11:52:10 2623573 Link 0 |
Yes forgot to mention donkey had a good year played against meath in clones m o rourkes 1st match and cleaned up the breaking ball subbed in next match v cavan left the panel and was called in after league sprung into ulster final and played a blinder supposing mcguinness had analysis done on every monaghan player but not on guess who ?

The bait was taken here. That being said, the standard of junior outside 2 or 3 is absolutely atrocious. I always like to keep an eye on Scotstown and waiting for there jump to intermediate. That was a terrible result for them last week however and will miss out on a semifinal finish after it? farneygael3 (Monaghan) - Posts: 376 - 04/07/2025 13:00:03 2623592 Link 0 |
What is the deal with touchy old fellas on this site? I'll break my comment down further, i said mc bennett and the two scotstown lads are a completely different style of players, scotstown men are your typical big men workhorse style of players, mc Bennett is more similar in style to a langan type of player as he is a bit more of a footballer and would be more of a scoring threat, two footed as well.

Ye there's lot of don't embarrass yourself and sure what would you know sure you obviously don't go to club matches look it's a small county and when you keep your ear close to the ground you pretty much know what's going on few lads on hear trying to paper up the cracks with our u 20s and so on personally I do watch club football but ye there's a few to read there comments must have 3 or 4 all irelands in there pocket monaghan football needs to knuckle down and have a good club championship and hopefully get a few dirty and clean ball winners out of it onwards and upwards Farneyblueandwhite (Monaghan) - Posts: 108 - 05/07/2025 23:30:37 2623843 Link 0 |
McBennett the only one worth mentioning here. That's a debate, I'll give you that. Leonard never fit so that's null and void. Beggan was in the panel for a couple of years and couldn't cut it. Connolly was given a shot this year and clearly not at that standard. Hanratty from Castleblayney simply not even close to that level, although still young so I suppose he could develop. Mick McCarville would look like an all-star playing intermediate football. Hes been the best midfielder in the senior championship for 2 or 3 years now whilst some of those lads you mentioned are often found struggling in intermediate league games.

Couldn't agree more. The gulf in club & intercounty in Monaghan is vast, lads on here are clueless and think if a fella looks descent on a Saturday playing against Scotstowns B's they are the next big thing! MonaghanMan44life (Monaghan) - Posts: 87 - 06/07/2025 14:16:26 2623911 Link 0 |
