A managerial genius the GAA's equivalent to Pep, has to be the success story of the year without a doubt taking a team from such a low ebb to the verge of an ulster title with the currin man leading the charge..

It's great for Scotstown to reach another Ulster final, but this time they have to win it. Far too much talent on display not to winning it and potentially going the whole way.

Yesterday it was reminiscent of the Kilcoo game loads of wides with nearly cost them yet again. McCarron in particular kicked three wides in the first half and crucially two frees which I believe McCarthy or Kieran Hughes would have nailed.

Conor McCarthy never touched the ball in the first half and the swap to wing half back for the second period certainly helped, and fair play to him for kicking the equaliser.

From watching Scotstown over the years there seems to be no urgency or ruthless streak to kill teams off, In the first half they should have easily went in 4 or 5 points up but went in one down.

Kieran Hughes was outstanding yesterday, I thought Scotstown could have mixed up their play a little more in the second half as Hughes spent at least 15 minutes in the full forward line and not a ball came his way.

Some of the lessor names really stood up too with Maguire kicking two great points. Boylan was also a very willing runner and really important outlet with Rory being man marked.

The ruthlessness of the Scotstown management was also seen in extra time when Maley was pulled aside after a poor kick pass let to an equalising score.

Scotstown have the talent to beat Glen, but they must go for it. If they get a two or three point lead they need to put the foot on the throat and try and get to five or six. Otherwise I feel they might be contemplating what might have been in two weeks time.

kieran hughes was good and I've always been a fan.

but i cant help but notice he doesn't tackle anyone? did he turnover the ball once? I see him flailing his arms about but i never see him tackling. Maybe he just needs to show a presence and fill spaces? anyone any insights here?

I believe his own favourite position is the half back line but, for me it has to be more forward for these reasons. On top of everything else - I remember him as a younger man was always susceptible to cards so maybe there's an instruction from management not to get too involved physically?

Interesting, I hadn't noticed the lack of tackling but from experience once one gets older the sharp quick movements required for front on tackling becoming more difficult and for that reason making oneself big is a tactic to push the ball player back and delay him to stop him running at you or allow a team mate to help.

If I'm not mistaken a lot of his cards were for verbal's too which from the weekends evidence he still has in his locker...

Commiserations to Blackhill and congratulations to Scotstown on making the Ulster final and I hope they represent Monaghan well.
Best of luck to them in the final.

Any word on any of the new faces involved in the County Seniors?

I see Colin Malone had jumped ship from Corduff.

I wonder how he felt last year as a coach when Gallagher was brought on board.

Who's he gone to?

Lavey in Cavan as a trainer.

He was in Lavey before Corduff . Never think it's a good idea to go back to a club

Been to a good few. You do realise they play Div 2 in Cavan? It was won by Knockbride, a team that lost the junior champ this year…

They played 4, lost 4 in the senior champ this year.

So where is this optimism coming from?
