Thread prob won't be updated on time but fantastic comeback by Moate, 10-9 down with 8 mins left plus stoppages. Finishing extremely strongly.

Won't get to Kinnegad for U20's today. If anyone there ye might put up the team and report please. I hear the senior lads will be involved in some capacity - Scahill, Baker, Smyth, Whitaker, Cooney. One of strongest teams in a while potentially.

Won 2-16 to 0-16 so good start for Damien Gavin and his players . Baker and Sean Leech scored the goals. I didnt hear anything just going by what I seen on Facebook. Monaghan away next week and Armagh home on March 4th .

Can anyone name the clubs of the above players? Who are the strongest clubs at this grade this year?

Widespread number of clubs in that line up with none from The Downs or Garrycastle. Caulry have the Bakers and Tom Cloonan, Kinnegad have Briain Cooney, Podge Quinn and Liam Daly, Loman's have Danny McCartan and Jack Geoghan, keeper from Streamstown, Sean Leech is Killucan, Dan Scahill Shandonagh, Toby C is Moate AW, Ben Killian Athlone, Dillon Murtagh is Milltown, Matt Whitt is Tubberclair, Shane Corcoran Malachy's, Peter Pierson Tyrrellspass, Not sure about Lee, possibly Shandonagh, Would expect Callum Cruise to be involved but he may be 21?

Sam Smyth Killucan and Tom Kellegher Tubberclair I'm sure. Rian Holding from the Downs could be good addition but involved with senior hurlers and Senan O' Driscoll from The Downs an excellent keeper, he's definitely worth a chance but think Stephen McNevin is sub keeper, Sam Clarke from Killucan also useful but not sure is he involved. Decent side, well balanced.

Sam Clarke not involved. Callum Cruise left last year due to limited game time and did not return this year ,he is eligible to play

This is a good balanced squad of players-strongest in a while id imagine and they put in a good solid display on saturday-tougher games ahead and big question will Scahill and Baker be always available?

Pity about Cruise, as a previous poster stated he was decent for Kinnegad last year for both the 19's and seniors.
I wonder is Rosemount's David Reilly in contention now that Moate CS are finished after a brilliant run.
No doubt he's being chased by the U20 hurlers too.
Monaghan in Castleblayney is the next stop at 3pm this Saturday. Club games on at 230pm.
Are county U20 footballers allowed to play with their clubs on Fri or Sunday ?

Interesting facts:

Castledaly the only non senior team in Div 1. This will stand to them for championship like it did last year with Shandonagh.
Caulry, Athlone and Killcuan are the 3 senior teams playing Div 2. Great to see Killcuan out of Div 3.
The Downs and Lomans have 3 teams in the top 4 divisions which is some achievement.
CFCW playing div 5 - as a intermediate team they will surely be aiming to get back up the divisions.

The last two years we have had a full league schedule the team that won the league Garrycastle (2019) and The Downs (2022) went on and won the championship.

25 games this weekend hopefully the weather stays good and we have a full weekend of football.

Strong Westmeath contingent on TUS Midlands panel for Trench Cup final v Dkit in Waterford this eve

Shane Allen, Kieran Colclough (Both Athlone), Matthew Whittaker (Tubberclair), Brandon Kelly (Milltownpass), Jamie Corcoran (Tyrrellspass), Brendan Killian (Shandonagh), Brían Cooney (Coralstown-Kinnegad), Devin Hill (Killucan), Jason Nugent (Garrycastle), James Bracken (Moate All Whites) & Ronan Wallace (Multyfarnham

They beat TUS Mid west yesterday and I notice that Wallace was not in team photo. To play three games in one week is a big ask for players so hopefully it's a case of player welfare and hes not injured

Also Baker should be playing for DCU in All Ireland Freshers A final tomorrow against Maynooth Unversity

Can you explain how a league game is more important than an All Ireland final?

I suppose the answer to that is related to perspective. For people closely involved the Fresher AI is more important but for others not.
I would draw an example from another sport that might give some insight.
If Arsenal were playing in the Youth FA Cup final next week and you gave Arsenal supporters a choice of winning that or beating Man City in a league game tonight what would they choose? Surely they would find it hard to explain that a league game is more important than a national title ?

I'm fairly sure Senan Baker is on a form of scholarship with DCU so should be playing with them if Westmeath want to compensate players scholarship perks that colleges are giving so they wont play fair enough but thats not going to happen.
