No team announcement for tomorrow. Complete lack of respect for supporters. Longford, Offaly, Meath, Limerick, Carlow and others have all named their teams. County hurlers also have no team announced. What's the reason for the secrecy? County board should be telling managers to name teams by Thursday, generates interest, conversation, successful counties do it and yet we're unable to.

No point naming a team when a completely different one takes to the field

I don't really see the point in the constant uproar on this forum over the team announcements over the last few years, we all know that the 15 named won't start anyway so no real point in a team announcement

Why the secrecy? Why can we not name a team and that team then starts the game? Other counties somehow manage to do it. If a player is fit on Thursday night at training then it's highly unlikely that he'll be unfit on Sunday. The lads named to start last weekend who then didn't start all were introduced shortly after half time with the exception of Sam Duncan. Makes no sense. It's not as if the mind games perplexed Mickey Graham and Cavan.

The starting team will be along the lines of the one named. I'm certain that this is a vital game the team needs a win by whatever means possible. I'm going to longford tomorrow with trepidation.

Not being streamed anywhere as far as I know.
Best of luck to the lads - announced team:
Daly
Scahill
Maguire
Giles
J. Dolan
Wallace
Harte
McCartan
McCormack
Forde
OToole
Lynam
Loughlin
Heslin

Wouldn't be surprised if Duncan or Connellan starts.

Baker, Duncan and Connellan replace Giles, Lynam and Forde in starting 15.

Is the match streamed today v longford. You would not want to depend on westmeath gaa web page for info.
It is a year out of date. Seems to think that we are heading to Laois to play a game this Sunday

A mixed first half from Westmeath, decent start but struggled to contain the Longford forwards, Des Reynolds definitely scored 3 points in succession, possibly more and Longford dominated the middle third in every sense, they led by 4 at one stage and we were struggling but finished half strongly with three points, Senan Baker an addition in forward line, he's a scoring threat.

Huge second half by Westmeath outscoring Longford-4-9 to 1pt.Overall a very good performance and it sets up a great local derby now against Offaly in 2 weeks time.

Game of 2 halves big time.
Longford the better side in the first half but a late rally from Westmeath closed the gap to just 1 at the break 0-8,0-7.
Brilliant start to the 2nd half with Heslin Harte and OToole all scoring points before a poor kick-out got turned over and a great run from Connellan who fed Loughlin and finished to the net on 44m mins to put 5 between the teams and game over really. 7 mins later keeper fumbled a ball with the sun in his eyes and Lorcan Dolan goaled. Longford downed tools at that stage with a few red cards (nothing too serious mixture of yellows and blacks). Full time 4-16 to 0-9 which I think was very flattering to Westmeath. Certainly the best team overall alright but not by 19 points. Good performance from everyone involved and so much better than last week. Young Scahill getting better in every game and delighted to see Baker getting a start who impressed. 3-7 from the full forward line of Loughlin (1-1) Heslin (1-5) and Dolan (1-1) but equally Maguire, Wallace and James Dolan were excellent.
Delighted to see McCartan and wing back which I think suits him best and he notched up 1-1.
Duncan and Connellan at midfield did well.
McCormack and O'Toole worked hard and got back to help out alot.
Game was as good as over when subs introduced. Young Smith looked lively and kicked a nice score.
plus K. Martin, Dillon, McCormack, Dempsey.
Offaly up next in Mullingar who are 2 from with wins over Antrim and Fermanagh.
Should be tasty.

Stronger team started than last week and Sam Duncan's importance can't be overstated. He had a huge Tailteann cup campaign doing massive work and we missed his physical presence last week. A forward line of scorers was good to see and as another poster referred to it was great to see Sam McCartan back to last year's best. The Offaly game is a big game and winners will be in promotion contention.

I really didn't see that result coming at half time. When we went more direct early in the second half it paid off and soon as the first goal went in Longford heads went down and we took advantage. I thought the two young lads Scahill and Baker were very impressive. Baker got more into it as the game went on and looked very dangerous when he ran at his man. It's frightening to think he's only 19/20 and such a strong physical man. Heslin won a lot of good ball and is one of our only players that can win ball in front of his man the way he does. I wouldn't get too carried away though. The decision making in the first half was very questionable and we wouldn't get away being only a point down at half time against a better team. Saying that I am a lot more optimistic than last week and we really need to be beating Offaly to push on

Westmeath were just ok in the first half and to score the final 3 pts in the half kept them in the game but in the second half they totally blew Longford away-all over the park.People will say agh shur Longford were this and that but Westmeath were excellant and some ,well most of their scores were well taken.Delighted for Dessie, his management team and his squad of players. They have to bring this performance into the Offaly game now.

Can anyone shed some light on what's happening at underage? I know there is a vacant minor board secretary position; is this going to hold up underage competition's as they usually start before this month is out and also what's the likely outcome of the vote on age groups; I see many lads who are now 'u18' are training and playing with their adult teams and yet could be put back to underage for the coming year despite the fact adult leagues start next week. Is a return to even ages but in 2024 viable or on the table?

What a difference a week can make ? We should a ruthless streak which was good to see after slow start. Scahill and Baker really showed up well for lads who have just come in . McCormack and Jimmy Dolan also ran their socks off . Lads that were withdrawn from team must be injured ?
