Replying To Claretandblue:  "At least try to read my posts and maybe re read them if necessary. It's hardly rocket science to understand that the fact he's accepted a nomination for the Cavan job, a nomination by the way by his own club, means he's very interested in managing his own county. Therefore he's no longer giving us priority. Players and most people realise that means he's a lame duck manager if he stayed with us. We shouldn't have to wait for Cavan to organise themselves as it impacts on us. I would have hoped he'd stay for a second and third year but that was before he clearly set his sights on another job."
McCabe himself wasn't appointed until few days before last year's County final we are well used of waiting in Westmeath. If he left today we won't have anyone in place for 2-3 months

Really disappointing to see no fixtures for next week's championship games along with little to no results or tables for round 1 of the championship on the website. This was quite good for the league and really should be updated daily now at this stage of the year.

Podcast is a brilliant thing to have. Well done to all involved. Good knowledgeable contributors really make it a good listen.

Although I know it is almost impossible to have eyes on every game of a given weekend, I hope they can find someone who has good knowledge on the junior championship, be it someone from one of the junior clubs or otherwise, who would have a closer eye on that championship.

Yes agreed, this week was insightful. Probably a little bit oriented towards the more northern teams in terms of knowledge. Someone from around Athlone would probably add a lot regarding players around that area and who's available/unavailable etc. But a good listen.

Podcast this week wasn't hectic if you're hard of hearing. A couple of microphones wouldn't go astray. Re Junior 1, insight was poor enough considering the panel got the qualification set up completely wrong. Both sections provide 4 teams to quarter finals not just the group consisting of the sole Junior clubs plus Moate.

Another week gone, another round of championship ahead and still no update on county manager, all in cavan convinced martin getting cavan job. Westmeath need to ask the question is martin going for cavan job or not. Again no problem if he is, but Westmeath can't be a second thought for him

Replying To Upforthegame23:  "The county board have to approach martin mcCabe now, need clarification on why he allowed his name go forward, I do understand its his home county and if thats the job he wants, go for it, to manage his own county is probably his ambition so best of luck to him, but clarity is required and the fact that he has allegedly shown interest in cavan, probably means his days are up in westmeath, the next manager needs to see players in club championship. I'd love to see john Keane back involved, a few great nominations locally on this forum but why not reach for the absolute possible heights, Ger brennan would be brilliant, why not, he not the fav for dublin anymore. May not be possible, but westmeath is an attractive job with so many good young players at the minute."
Any publication I have seen is that Ger Brennan is still the overwhelming favourite for the Dublin job. He didnt leave Louth for no reason and to think he'd leave them and then take up a job with Westmeath is folly.

I dont think we have anyone in Westmeath who is strong enough of a character to take on this job apart from possibly Lar Wall or go back to John Cooney if his post allowed for it but i dont think anything has changed there.

I would keep an eye on the Mayo situation very closely. Only 1 of Andy Moran or Austin O'Malley can get it. Whichever loses out would still be a hell of an appointment for Westmeath if they could be tempted.

Kieran Donaghy has left his post in Armagh. If we were looking to take a punt on someone new he would be someone that would be worth the chance and he might be tempted with a Div 3 team with some good young talent emerging.

Another outside one for me might be Mickey Graham. He's on the Coaching ticket in Galway and may like to step back in as a manager again in his own right. Some may not like how he walked away from Leitrim but i dont know the circumstances of that.

Declan D'Arcy is fav for dublin job, but i am sure you know that, best kept secret for last three week, ger brennan would be a great fit for westmeath if that option was available and he didn't get dublin job.

You must have missed the fact that our manager let his name go forward for another job which he appears to be the strong favorite for. That alone is enough to set plans in motion to seek a replacement.

You mean UCD? He's been involved there since 2015. So unless there has been a very recent change that the interweb hasnt even discovered yet??

I havnt heard that. The talk around Croker at the weekend was still all about Ger Brennan but people love to talk and spread *****! I know Paul Flynn put the idea of Darcy out there on the Sunday Game. But yes he would certainly be a great candidate - and so would Darcy!!
