Flanagan didn't start against Caulry

Bit of respect. Can tell you first hand he does a lot more than "carry water bottles", has great knowledge of football. I'm not saying he's the right appointment and if you think somebody else then fair enough, but don't throw out inflammatory comments for no reason.

To be fair, Foy was dropped. Flanagan injured and Heslin carrying an injury only able to play a half so there was some truth to it. All in all Lomans got it done, did enough as they have been doing all year, unspectacularly. Kinnegad were poor, needed to win and didn't know how to chase a game. Had an extra man for 10 mins at a crucial stage and with John Heslin off the pitch they had a great chance to win but couldn't take it. If they don't get to a semi, they'll be beaten by Shamrocks or The Downs I think. Tpass will fancy Lomans now in the final game with them already top. Athlone should beat Tang but Tang can play football outside Cusack Park, they were woeful again today . You also wouldn't bet against Caulry beating Kinnegad. All to play for except for top spot in both groups.

Any suggestions as to who considering it's an unpaid role based on past experience? Other management teams at inter county level get very well compensated.

By All accounts there was big interest in it. John Murray (Moate) Enda Sheridan (Finea) Mike Dillon (Milltown) Apparently. All with good experience and quality. Could be sure there tickets would have been strong I'd imagine iarmhi1234 (Westmeath) - Posts: 3 - 25/08/2024 19:26:28 2566724 Link 0 |
Hey you were wrong anyway Lomans had everyone available other than Flanagan. Same squad as last game. Foy is an auld man doesnt have legs for 60 and will either come on or be taken off after 40. Lomans in third gear and still win, Caulry are timing their run to a quarter final to perfection. lakecounty90 (Westmeath) - Posts: 106 - 25/08/2024 19:31:03 2566726 Link 0 |
On the intermediate championship if I was Garrycastle I would see Tubberclair with a full team as a major threat , they have a great chance to knock them out in the last game provided Milltownpass beat Castledaly. I'd fancy Tubberclair to take Milltown handy in a semi and then take Garrycastle. Rosemount had a great win yesterday against Milltownpass who are struggling without the prseence of Sam Duncan in mid field but Rosemount are no threat to the top 3.To me the intermediate is a three horse race the teams in the bottom group won't get close to any of the top 4.

The impression was Kinnegad were coming to win the game when they got it back to two but never pushed on. For a team so good at defending they struggle badly to break down packed defences. St Lomans looked in trouble to be honest even with 15 men on the pitch and Kinnegad had no killer punch to put them away. Caulry managed their chances well and will really fancy beating Kinnegad. Conor Mc Cormack and Senan Baker stood up when they needed them most. Tang are not up to this level unfortunately for them but could beat Athlone.

Tyrrellspass guaranteed quarter final at least and a draw with Loman's prob needed for semi, Loman's in semi, Athlone also guaranteed quarter final at least, winners of Caulry vs Kinnegad pretty much guaranteed quarter final spot with the losers demoted to section B, Athlone will make semi if they win and Loman's win. Tang's chance depending on beating Athlone but they would also need Kinnegad to draw or beat Caulry as their score difference versus Athlone and Caulry would be inferior after today. Obviously that would change if they Athlone well. Killucan and The Downs preliminary quarter final, Shamrocks vs Malachy's is a dead rubber, Shandonagh need to beat Moate to force play off with Moate. Rochfortbridge should beat relegated Ballynacargy in intermediate section B to qualify along with winners of Multy Kilbeggan. Maryland vs Ballymore a dead rubber local derby!! Gavin and O'Brien have both been asked to reconsider and stay with their teams.

Wishing Kevin Maguire all the best after announcing his retirement from the county. His last ditch block against Cavan in the Tailteann has to be up there with his best moments in the Maroon. A_Chairde (Westmeath) - Posts: 224 - 25/08/2024 21:17:08 2566759 Link 1 |
2out 3 dillion especially would have experience and quality and be decent, not so sure on other one. Good appointment anyway Gaaforlife2023 (Longford) - Posts: 470 - 25/08/2024 21:17:34 2566760 Link 0 |
Caulry coming under the radar some more players back from abroad and training hard get it right next day and it's quater final . McCormack Nally and Baker have to go up the gears and are well capable of this all to play for .

Enda Sheridan managed Tyrrellspass last couple of years, did a decent enough job but they were defensive Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1842 - 25/08/2024 21:39:25 2566768 Link 0 |
If he's the preferred candidate over Dillon, Sheridan and Murray then he must have a decent backroom with him.

It was Ray Sheridan that was over Tyrrellspass. Enda was over Castledaly for a couple of years since they came back down intermediate and most recently over a club in Cavan I believe. I'm fairly sure they are brothers

That was Ray Sheridan; Enda managed Castledaly I think about 2-3 years ago. Not sure if Mick Dillon had a stint with Multyfarnham or not.
