In fairness, a number of Cross players were involved when Armagh won in 2002. Without Cross having won been as successful as they were, it's debatable whether Armagh would have gotten over the line. In any case having one very strong club isn't going to do a huge amount for the county team's fortunes. We've seen that in Galway with Corofin in recent years. I think in the case of Armagh, it was the Cross men that got them over the line, When big Joe , who is from Cross, took over the reigns, The likes of, McConville, McEntee twins, Bellew, among other good players of course, So i do think the success of the Crossmaglen club, made all the difference for them in 02
