Guess Jimmy was open to coming back to the GAA after all. Big cock up that its not with Donegal but no surprise really given Donegal's incompetence in such things.

If the rumour is true and Jim McGuiness is coming to Down we might as well pack it in. After having never missed a Down game ( apart from during the pandemic closure) home or away, Championship, League or McKenna Cup in good times and bad for the last 46 years, that's me done. Finito

Is it true? Strange if it is. I like Jim and he's a brilliant coach but I think it'll be an uncomfortable marriage if it happens as the county and the man like different styles of playing.

That's the spirit. A true supporter of your county.

If he joins up with Down as is reported and they play close to style of play that won All Ireland with Donegal in 2012 or how they took out Dublin in 2014 by scoring 3-14 I think all Down supporters should be delighted.

He was a disaster with the soccer coaching. For me he did good work with Donegal for a few years and has been living off that ever since. He hasn't evolved his coaching to any extent. He's a bit like Davy Fitz. He ll gee em up for a year and then he's spent. Similar style of play to Davy too. Packing defences..and a limited short passing game that ultimately fails in the white heat

Anybody seen rorysboys lately? be interesting to hear his opinion now. What a disaster from Donegal CB if this is true. Jim would have lifted the whole county if he had come back in to manage us.

Wow. That's like getting a Rolex watch on Christmas morning and throwing it in the fire.

Wouldn't agree. Conor Laverty and Marty Clarke offer a nice counter-balance. To see Jim as solely defensive is to miss the point. Think about what he brings in a holistic way to a setup. Fitness, tactics, psychology, soccer experience, Sam Maguire winning experience. Would have him back in 5 seconds in Donegal. Our loss.

Down people wont let Jimmy McGuinness get near that job, they usually go for a Down man as manager, dont know if there ever was an outsider there. Plus they play open attacking football so mcguinness would be a disaster there totally the wrong style of play, mcguinness defensive stuff is gone with the high bike now anyway. surely plenty of Down men with all irrelands to do the job.

Down snobbery : ). They're above defending in Down lol. Something is needed though. Down nowhere near where they ought to be. Jim has a first class football brain and great intensity and doesn't tolerate anyone being half-hearted. If true, I reckon it'd be a good move for Down. We need to have Down back at the top table

Like yourself i think it would be a disaster to try and mix Down's great traditional game, and Jim McGuiness. Oil and water.

Fáilte romhat Jimmy.

He might be just what we need to move up a level and integrate that promising U-20 panel we have.

Did people not watch the later years Jim was in charge of Donegal? Yes, he started as defensive but he evolved as he went along and at the end played as attacking as anyone in the country.

Down should be delighted if he steps in, in any capacity. I would love him back in Donegal.

The previous manager was a Tyrone man Paddy Tally who is now on the management ticket in Kerry.
Down like every other team in Ireland play men behind the ball and attack at pace its about getting the balance right.

Down have given the job to a number of men who won all irelands and they never worked out, so we need something new and i for one think this management team will get the best players in Down wanting and dying to put the jersey back on.
