Could you blame them

No hope of winning Joe McDonagh now. The circumstances of him leaving Meath should have been enough of a warning. preddan (Kildare) - Posts: 747 - 24/07/2024 12:57:11 2561208 Link 1 |
Didn't say was right just saying might be logic shouldn't have meeting so if there talk going on knowing potential concerns .

While not turning I am just saying that could be logic . Whilst that doesn't help it's not general election at same . Surely has be reasons why not . Better turn I do agree and voice opinion but clearly process had issues clearly this going harm westmeath if they don't get all best or most involved as possible. Starting off on sour note. Oh my. Tough start for the man. It will be shoulders to the wheel from Co Board, they picked him.. He needs to appoint strong selectors from within or a big name to try get off on good footing with panel. Wait and see.. Danup (Westmeath) - Posts: 41 - 24/07/2024 13:22:51 2561215 Link 0 |
Possibly clubs could have thought they didn't know selections or that process wasn't fair I don't know whether turned up or not still some divide over appointment considering two clubs had big issues . Starting off negative note won't help westmeath hurling rebuild. Anyway it's hard see the divide up or negative opinion background changed unless there's a discussion and opinion bashed out . Clearly some issues arose and need to be solved for best of Westmeath Hurling. That's all I am saying as it's in media as well. Should be some good games in the club championship though. What happened to the local option.. Must be tough on them 5/6 championship between them. Greenandgoldie (Westmeath) - Posts: 146 - 24/07/2024 13:39:01 2561222 Link 0 |
Well it's been announced now anyway. Are the twists you were referring to the objection by your club delegate? While I would have advocated for a local candidate, I can't see the benefit of such a performance, the recommendation was made by the selection committee in question and passed by an overwhelmingly large majority. I was speaking to someone earlier who was in on the meeting, and seemingly the atmosphere turned quite toxic when the Lough Lene Gaels delegate raised his issues You look to have had the inside line at each step, can I ask if you know whether these were the personal views of the individual or the views of the club executive or members as a whole, was it discussed at a club meeting prior to last night and mandated by the club to submit an objection? After all, the player's representative on the selection committee was from the Gaels, was he against the appointment also? It doesn't serve anyone to create this division from the offset, all this talk of players not wanting to play if certain people get the job, whoever is genuinely interested will play if called upon and put in their utmost effort, anyone not interested is better off without, too much emphasis on player power. The appointment is made, whether everyone agrees with it or not give the man a chance and row in behind him and the players. There's going to be someone giving out no matter who was ratified. One last thing, the intercounty experience of Buflin was called into question, does this mean that the delegates who objected would have also been against our own candidates from within the county, who most posters here were advocating for? Valid questions… Time will tell when the first squad is announced. There is talk of big names pulling plug I feel the anti Bulfin sentiment is down to the nature of his departure from Meath It appears everyone had their due diligence done apart from the selection committee… That's before you look at the coach and S&C and how their last inter county roles finished up Anyway it's done now. Best of luck to them and hopefully it works out better than it looks now LockLeanGayl (Westmeath) - Posts: 252 - 24/07/2024 14:46:22 2561246 Link 0 |
I don't think they meant his lack of experience more so the experience the Meath players had under him! LockLeanGayl (Westmeath) - Posts: 252 - 24/07/2024 14:54:48 2561250 Link 0 |
That Lough Lene Gaels delegate is a selector with Meath senior hurling champions kildalkey, possibly has the inside scoop as to what happened in Meath? westmeathgaa11 (Westmeath) - Posts: 269 - 24/07/2024 15:12:08 2561253 Link 0 |
And who do you think that will be. The best hurlers in County at moment Williams LLG. Doyle Raharney. OReilly Castletown. Get selector from one or better again two of them clubs and it will turn it. And in fairness he's probably working on that. Lucky long way Togo until intercounty starts. All this will be water under the bridge. Definitely needs a selector from Raharney and Castletown to manage any issues with main players walking away

Would Nicky Weir not do that job. Former Raharney manager. Wasn't it him that brought Reilly and Bulfin into Meath.

No. Just trying to look for solutions Greenandgoldie (Westmeath) - Posts: 146 - 25/07/2024 12:31:41 2561470 Link 0 |
Neither Bulfin or the county board can feel comfortable with the backlash since they announced the appointment. If players start to pull away from the set up before a ball is even pucked then the county board may have to reconsider. People can say we can't let the players dictate but we can't do without any of our key men and its as simple as that. Dheen (Westmeath) - Posts: 886 - 25/07/2024 15:39:09 2561538 Link 0 |
Bit unfair on a man that went through a process and got it. I'm sure he's hearing this too and can't be nice listening to it either.

That's an outrageous statement to say they can't be comfortable with the appointment. The man was deemed the best candidate, just because your club tried to throw their weight around at the meeting the other night doesn't mean a thing. Why would any rational minded player pull away because of this appointment, regardless of whether it was expected or not
