I didn't hear that there were any changes to the Minor and U20 management teams so do we assume they have been left as is...

You would love to see it in Galway , have 4/5 teams like they have and run it over two weekends. I think in Tipp its free entry but raising money for local charitys.

Connemara ( Moycullen, Kilanin, Oughterard, Clonbur, Carna, Renvyle , Clifden, L Mor,Ros Muc, Crua , MB, Spideal ,

City , Salthill, Micheals, James, OranMore, Claregalway, Eire Og, Annaghdown,Bearna

North : Corofin, Tuam, Caherlistrane Headford, Kilconly, Milotown, Cortoon, Dunmore

East : Blose, Caltra, Ballygar, Garbriels, Athnery ,Monivea, Menlouh, Moutbellew,

I know i have left clubs out, and some would be in different places like Bearna should be in Conamara etc. But it would be something different . In tipp they have strong mentors for each team, lads playing who arent on the County Senior Panel , and its giving them a shop window. I think they have 2 Semi Finals and then a Final .

I can feel the negative responses coming along already :)"
I totally agree and have vouched for a regional / divisional competition for years. Regional football, while admittedly on a far more structured and competitive basis there, is a massive factor in Kerry's football success over the years. Any introduction to it at all in Galway would be an experiment well worth running and would garner a lot of interest. If a prospective sponsor for a short and sweet regional competition could be landed, the CB would have to look at it. The novelty factor alone of arch rivals / local derby teams coming together for this would be great craic in itself.

Not so sure about this from a practical application point of view.

It's easy say "we could follow Kerry's model", but in reality we can't. Kerry has little to no hurling and in truth isn't a dual county. Galway is and it therefore halves the amount of weekends you have to get a championship played.

Secondly, it has on a number of occasions seen a team who hasn't played a game in weeks or even months having to represent Kerry in Munster because a divisional team wins the county championship. Austin Stacks got a right trimming off Nemo a few years back if I'm not mistaken, they hadn't played a game in over 2 months but had to represent Kerry as East Kerry won the county championship and therefore the winner of the club championship which was played months earlier went through.

Not saying it doesn't have its merits but it certainly has a lot of issues and I don't think it's practical to implement in Galway.

Its a very interesting discussion. I agree that the Kerry model is not applicable to Galway, But we do need o think "out of box" to try to get a solution to getting competitive football for county standard players from clubs in lower divisions.
I dont think this was a major problem until recently with the split of the seasons into club/county. Prior to this split , when the seasons ran concurrently, club football was a very small part of the county players activity i.e. they played championship games with club and very little else , so most of the time they were involved in the country set playing challenge games / training games against peers. But now with the split season ( dont get me wrong I think this is brilliant) we have situations like , for example, Tom Flynn who has been playing Junior football exclusively for 4 or 5 months against players who are ( in general) unable to make their own club 1st team.

Another alias and Donald Trump, I didn't say we should apply the Kerry model. I made it clear that their divisional / regional structure is different. But I do think that a lighter form of regional competition would be good for Galway football and for clubs. It would freshen up the year to allow a couple of weekends for a short competition. It would be a start. We're firmly on our way to another 32 or more year gap between all Irelands, unless Galway football changes. If we don't look at some changes we'll never adapt and will never win anything of note. This is one minor suggestion but it has merit amongst the glaringly obvious need for bigger changes - like a county strategy and action plan, ala the one Limerick undertook in hurling 10 years ago.

Little or no hurling, stand in any town in North Kerry or parts of South Kerry & shout that & see how far you get !!! - but I get your point in relation to scheduling hurling compared to Galway. problem I see with it is that the senior clubs second & third teams seem to get more of a say than the junior 1 clubs, they seem to be put on during football weekends as a senior club, it should be prioritised same weekend as hurling, & if senior clubs second teams can't play because 7-10 lads are on senior panel then it's not really sustainable in the long run.

In response to Stacks, that's because that year the Club Championships (Senior club, intermediate & Junior) were run off in April/May for club only months, 8 senior clubs two groups of 4, top 2 semi finals, was ran off in the blink of an eye. Usually it's the Club team that get the furthest in the Senior County Championship or winners of Club Champ (depending on what is agreed) lately to keep club teams interested in Club Champ. its the winners of that that go on to represent Kerry instead of last club team in Senior County Champ.

On a different note, the divisional system works well mainly because;
1 it keeps players with the small clubs as they get to play Senior Championship with divisional boards
2 management get to see how a player in a junior club or lower league club play senior champ, get to see if he can make the jump up to senior intercounty
3 it's been there for years, mainly because of low numbers in rural areas, clubs wouldn't be able to field minor/U21 on their own or to a good standard so the divisional boards enter the county Championships, also each divisional board run their own Championship, which is what most clubs will set out their stall to win if they are not near winning an intermediate/junior champ, they also get to nominate captain if their divisional board win County Champ.
Its part of the fabric now, very hard to start this in counties, few have tried but to no real success,

The few distractions;
1 some divisional boards are a mess & clubs don't release their players in time, - East Kerry this year, 2 sessions
2 hard to get a system set up so an awful lot of games are turkey shoots, you score 10 we'll score 11,
3 some clubs are up & down every few years because of the 8 senior clubs & when they are down board is strong, when they are up, board is good

M/M failure to advance to Connacht final highlights just how good Corofin have been for the last 30 years. Around this time 30 years ago they won their first Connacht title beating Clann na Gael in the final. M/M are a good team and the Ref today was dreadful but Corofin were a class outfit at their best. Will we see their equal again in Galway?

I'd say there is always a bit of an adjustment period for a clubs first season at provincial level after a long absence. If they are back on the provincial stage next year id expect a much better showing, but in saying there I believe ref was poor today.

Corofin winning 5 All-Irelands, the only club ever to win 3 in a row, and having a record number of Connacht titles highlights how good they have been. That's more than enough evidence. An incredible club.
M/M losing today has nothing to do with it and doesn't highlight anything. They're a team on their first foray into Connacht and were very unlucky today. They'll hopefully be able to learn from this.

Corofin had our own issues with Mayo refs and Roscommon opposition..

It hasn't been mentioned yet, so a big comhghairdeas to Leitir Móir on their win on Saturday. They showed serious bottle to come back from being well behind and force extra-time.
At least one poster in the last few weeks kept telling us that the standard of intermediate football in Galway was very low.
We've had Oughterard win the All-Ireland and An Spidéal win Connacht in recent years. An Spidéal beat Belmullet in that campaign who made the Mayo senior final this year.
Now we have Leitir Móir in a Connacht final after beating the Mayo champions. It looks to me like we have a competitive intermediate championship, which is of a good standard.

3 all-irelands in a row didn't leave any need for additional 'highlighting' of Corofin's quality as a club side.
