Replying To BreakingBall123: "That was encouraging. Two Deignans looked very dangerous. Thought Sheridan did well around the middle and full back line was solid."

What happened to Sligo in the final ten minutes fitness or Subs made things flip in Mayos favour?
1-11 to 0-11 ahead to beaten 1-17 to 1-11. Was listening to the end on Ocean Bay Fm and was said they wouldn't be too happy if from Mayo with that performance

Sligo brought on newcomers, Mayo brought on oldcomers, Andy didn't want to lose his first game
As a Mayo man living in Sligo I thought they were things both teams could take from the game, Sligo were the better team for 45 minutes and probably could have been further ahead, tomorrow's game against London then probably had its impact with less of the bench being able to be used than Mayo.
However the claim that Mayo used an experienced bench to pull through don't really stand up to any scrutiny. The two most experienced subs Mayo used (Jack Coyne and Stephen Coen) came on before half time when Mayo were 0-08 to 0-05 ahead, Sligo then scored the next 1-05 so they hardly made a marked postive impact. Their other subs were: - Liam Donoghue (making his debut at 24ish) - Cathal Keaveney (making his debut after being u20 last year) - Diarmuid Duffy (played a bit part league role in previous years, his first year out of u20) - Dylan Thornton (second year on the panel, around 23) - Cian McHale (second year on the panel although his first was curtailed by injury, aged 22) - Tom Lydon (Only 19, still u20 this year, making his debut) The sheer number of subs Mayo were able to make due to the scheduling were more the difference maker than the caliber of the subs that came on.
From a Sligo point of view the two Deignans looked lively causing the Mayo fullback line issues, Lally did likewise and proved a useful target man as evidenced by Kilcoyne's goal.

I think that's a fair and balanced view rather than smart alics from mayo being smart about it.
