Replying To Sligonian: "It doesn't matter what club anyone is from. If Casserly was from another club I'd be questioning why he is not making the 26. I am very comfortable in my third party assessment and I have seen enough myself over the years. I can see a scenario where management are more critical of the runs from deep rather than inside line but for me McNamara has to do a lot better and (great servant) he is very lucky to have not really faced any consequences. Its bloody hard to lose the Sligo Jersey when you get one consistently under this management. It looks easily retained but not easy won that's for sure.
Kernan is a excellent pundit and was a classy footballer but our defensive set up has underwhelmed even accounting for the new rules. We haven't really looked like stopping the goal chances being created. If we can find a way to force a point instead we will be a different animal.
On the club scene you have to admire Curry in winning the last 2 matches beating Marys and Enniscone. Marys drawing with Coolera without their county players is not a great sign. Shamrock Gaels are formidable at home and look strong without the county players and fair play to Tourlestrane. They just are masters at maximising what they have.
We are a super club. North Sligo always the best most scenic part of Sligo, probably reminds Spillane of Kerry so he feels at home ;)" No no, you are not a super club. You're super clubs don't forget.... :) Good luck to Molaise, I honestly hold no ill will towards that club but your posts might create a bit. Keaney this, Casserley that. As a previous poster said, they've no championship won yet so plenty to prove. I'm sure they will in time.
If I'm completely honest Sligonian, I'd somewhat agree on Paul McNamara. In my not so important opinion, he's been a great servant but never been top top class, yet every manager has gone for him and trusts him. They've looked at the alternatives and thought, he'll do no better. We all questioned David Quinn earlier this year and he's been one of the better performers The difference between you and I however is that I have an opinion, but I don't pretend to see these guys day in, day out, and don't think I have all the answers. It's not exactly what you say, it's the sureness in saying something that's provably wrong!
Your commentary is Dunphyesque.By all means have an opinion, make suggestions, but know that your opinion is not fact, nor does anyone here think it is!

Our forward line looked dangerous on Sunday, SD has offered another ball winning option which is giving space to other forwards. The big problem is winning kickouts, last day it was a case of who ever won a kick out scored, we need to secure our own kick out and contest opposition with all effort. It is concerning at this stage that we are playing forwards in defense...how is this a logical decision. There has only been one super club in Sligo for most of current management reign and they never really got a starter with county in the last 6 years, they may not longer be at the same level but it has always baffled me how players who proved themselves in winning championships never made it to starting line up...it's management responsibility to get the best talent into the squad. Post you excuses for them now please.

Big pile on on Sligonian yet again - seems to be co-ordinated at this stage. He does type some truth though although i would not always agree with the delivery. Sligo didn't have a defender on the bench last weekend. There is an injury crisis in that area of the pitch with Mullan, Cummins and Cox out but surely we need defensive cover whether that is Casserly, Walsh, whoever is next up should be togged. We started with a player who is normally a forward playing corner back and then replace him with another corner forward. 4 of our starting forwards were replaced when the players who were struggling were at the other end of the pitch. I don't get it.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but do not think it is right knocking some lads as they have not won a senior championship. I am sure the players in question have won championships at underage. Due to dominance of Tourlestrane the last number of years, not many players have won senior championship medals.
On the football front, looking forward to the game Saturday. We have good enough forwards to cause damage to any defence but the problem is we are conceding too much at the back. Too late to make any changes in a quarter final now and anyone not in the 24, wont be making squads for the rest of the year I am afraid.

Don't worry RealSouth, you could be talking about Fermanagh there just as easily. We can score but we can also be very open, and that's been a trait for several years. It might make for a cracking game - for neutrals! Che Cullen didn't play last time out and he would be a massive boost to match up to Murphy (and frees up his twin Lee to do a job elsewhere.) I'd worry about our spread of defenders if we don't have him, as outside of the 2 Cullens we lack any physicaity in defence.
It's pretty much 50/50, but I wouldn't be surprised to see either side race into a big lead and/or relinquish it given both teams concession rates. That's the nature of the new game and how it played out in Brewster a few months back where we got a scarcely deserved late equaliser. It's a bit cliched but it could come down to midfield and who can keep the supply coming to their forwards, which has been topsy turvy for us all year outside of Joe McDade who has really grown into our main midfielder.

It is always co-ordinated and facilitated. The county board got messages taken down about criticism of the pitch fairly quickly so they obviously have links. They probably have a watsapp group.
I can never understand why does my opinion carry so much weight? The county board hang on my every word but I can't really elaborate on that. My posts have been watched for years and they cant handle or process any criticism or exposure of this management. Some players would value my opinion too. I don't think I am right all the time but I don't doubt my football knowledge or how I see the game. Others see it differently and that's fine but I am entitled to my opinion. Opinion and Beliefs are not facts as Bumblebee points out. Players should feel secure enough to able to handle others opinions and see them for what they are. And if not they should be built up and grounded to feel that way by their inner circle.
The other thing is the posters on here who go after me are their own worst enemy, every time they post it motivates me to post more which I am assuming is the opposite of what they want.
Anto, I agree, yourself and others have a far better delivery than me and I do enjoy your posts. I know my delivery can be mixed at times but this type format does come across differently and how its received is much more open to the cognitive bias of the reader. You make a great point about the make up of the position's on the bench, no cover for the defenders and no cover for players out of form. That is why I find it so confusing why Casserly didn't make the 26. Its such a fair question but just another specific example of where a good management would have this covered.
One thing I was wrong about was about the Connacht Minor championship this year, I thought the standard was very poor and I thought both finalist would get hammered but Mayo and Roscommon were excellent in both wins at the weekend so I was probably too harsh on ourselves.

The polarised opinions have struck me. Sligonian on one side with his strong opinions on mcentee and management team and players that havent been given a chance and Tayto, Bumblebee, JCR with their circling the wagons, total commitment to defending the management and established mcentee loyal players; sure they can do no wrong. Personal pile ons on Sligonian, coupled with sly digs at his club. There was another poster who got worse digs in about Ballymote last year who's not getting the same level of abuse. Although he wouldn't be as critical of mcentee and team which is interesting. My conversation with a person at the game Sunday was deemed not to be worthy of mention because it was second hand information but Taytos second hand information is taken as given. The world would be a boring place if we couldn't have different opinions or couldnt discuss opinions we got from others. Seemingly, you're not allowed to ask an acquaintance an opinion on who played well in a game you didn't see cause it don't matter cause you didn't see it with your own eyes! Posters should stop reading match reports of games you werent at cause it means nothing.
I think that the reading of the type of job mcentee has done is somewhere in the middle of these 2 polarised views. It is possible to acknowledge that mcentee has done a good job and brought structure to the way we play (in my opinion we have lost some of this structure defensively with the new rules) and be critical of some of his attempts to blood players and his loyalty to some non performing players.
On the Casserly one. It was mentioned that he's not there cause he can't kick pass. This is Taytos opinion. In my opinion, Towey and Lyons are also poor kickpassers. I certainly wouldn't be considering them to be dropped from 1st 15 because of this weakness that they can work on.

When the Tailteann Cup comes to an end there will be loads of time for talking about the mgt. I think we will win on Saturday. We have finally got our shooting boots on. Reilly and MC Loughlin who were having a very lean spell took off the shackles and played some great football. We will concede a lot of scores but the new rules are geared to help the game, get big scores and raise the enjoyment. It's worked. When there is a clean mark the player can run unopposed for a number of steps which opens up defences. Derry is supposed to have the best defensive coach and yet Galway got 4 goals the last day. The problem with kickouts isn't going to be solved simply because we don't have at least one towering ball winner in the middle. I hope we will travel with a good support.

Yes, we were in a bad state before McEntee but no offence to the previous management - it was very poor. Since that, we have won back to back under20's so the players are there but the big debate we have had here - they are not been used. I think Sligo GAA is in a good place at the moment, starting at the top with an ambitious county chairman, proven success at underage which shows we can compete with the other Connacht counties. We should not be discussing a change of management team while the current season is still in progress.

Is that the fault of the manager and selectors or is it the fault of the players for not pushing hard enough. None of us know what's going on at training. Still we finished the last game with 5 of the U 20's that all the talk is about but hey never let the truth get in the way of a good story !!!!!

Nobody is discussing changing the management. I agree that's for when the season ends.
All that is happening here is an discussion on their tactics, selections and decisions. Fair questions are being asked but just look at the over reaction to any exposure. It is a fascinating insight into the psyche of a cohort of people within Sligo GAA. They can't handle a different opinion on management.
On to the football, it was good to see Eoghan Smith return from injury against Carlow. Spillane for county looks to be better coming on from the bench rather than starting and he has had spells like this before. I was delighted to see Reilly find his form. Hopefully he can build on that. We will need both Alans firing on Saturday. O Connor 4 pts from midfield is a very good showing. Quinn has backed up the Leitrim performance and continues to play well by all accounts. The forwards are in a really good place. There is a lot of good quality in this team. As I said before we need to show signs of tightening up on the goal chances concessions because better teams will punish us more severely.
Should be a good Sligo support given its only up the road. Looking forward to this one.

The domestic senior club league continues this weekend. It's going to be difficult to predict. Some clubs have lost players to American for the summer and if Sligo were to lose on Saturday I think some players will make themselves available for club selection the following day, especially those clubs that are desperate for points. Tour have one foot in the final. I think they will beat Harps. Coolera have to win against Curry and I think they will. A draw between Molaise and Marys and ☘️ Gaels to beat Enniscrone . Drumcliffe will beat Coolaney whose fast start is now a memory. Div 2 should see Bunnies Tubber Ballymote Calry Molaise all win.

Realsouthsligo - you mentioned the new chairman Declan Rouse, I don't know much about him other than he was vice chair and player liaison officer to the seniors for a time. I am assuming he would be close to current senior management. You sound positive about him. Why is that and what do you think he will bring to the table?

He is a very passionate Enniscrone GAA man but more importantly a good Sligo GAA man, he is also a very successful business man. Was involved in fundraising for the county when finances were not good. I believe he was the man who went after our current manager. Yes, he is the liaison officer, which might make his decision difficult to make if we don't progress in the competition. For me, we need to making the final this year to show progression. Chairman needs to be making some hard decisions when sitting at the top table and think he is the right man.

It should say enough for Declan Rouse that there was a campaign behind the scenes against him by a cohort who have ran the county board and committees for years. Here's hoping for an offaly style clear out like Michael Duignan did when he became chair down there.

I hope people learn a lesson and when they hear idle gossip in the stand, they should leave it there and not post it on a public forum. The player who was supposed to be very good in a club match last weekend didn't make it while the player that wasn't supposed to be great in the same game is included.
