U20 football championship is on at the minute, 3 walkovers at the weekend, tullow and bagenalstown couldn't field in the A and asca couldn't field in the B not a good sign for the competition, and worrying that our second and third town can't get a team of lads between 17and 20 year olds. Is it too late in the year for these competitions? Is there a better way to run off that grade? Maybe we should abandon it if it's going to be an after thought in December

Maybe they should have played it directly after the adult football championships end? Most lads are still active at that point and easier to keep them training if the wait is only 2/3 weeks.

I know this means the u20 hurling doesn't get going until later, but the continuity is with the football at the point, might as well play it out and then start back up with the hurling. Weather will be poor for hurling either way.

Could do with increasing the pace of the Championship also, maybe 3 games over two weeks rather than 1 a week. A lot of these lads have been going for most of the year, should at least have December to rest and enjoy.

Yes probably should have kept at it while the football was going, I think December and January should definitely be off season frozen pitches are not ideal for games, it's a bit of an after thought as it stands.
Not ideal for an incoming u20s management either.

Always a difficult call on when to play u 20 football.
The weekends only suits under 20 teams as many lads are away and in college. Playing games midweek is a non runner.
It's also run with teams playing at home and away which is a great initiative
Incredible that so many of our clubs have lights !
Its always going to be difficult to know how many players will be there for your club at this level.
A lot comes down to when and who makes contact with the players from the club.
We can focus on the negatives, but why not focus on the positives! Plenty of good games coming up this weekend.

Kilkenny moved back to even ages for next season. Assume we will do the same now. Would be a positive move I believe and help with player retention

2024 NFL Fixtures Published:

Tipperary (A), 27.01.2024, (Sat) 18.00
Waterford (H), 17.02.2024, (Sat) 18.00
Laois (A), 17.02.2024, (Sat) 18.00
Leitrim (H), 25.02.2024, (Sun) 14.00
Wexford (H), 02.03.2024, (Sat) 19.00
Longford (A), 17.03.2024, (Sun) 14.00
London (H), 23/03/2024, (Sun) 13.00

Not a bad schedule in terms of away matches Longford is the only longer distance trip and traditionally a hard place to get a result for Carlow. However, if Brendan Murphy gets back to his best we might shake them up.

Tipperary away first game will probably define our league. Beat them and we come home to Waterford which will be an easier game. 2 from and 2 and you build momentum. It's hard not be optimistic especially hearing who might be opting in for next year. If we are not challenging its time for Carew to go. I would love to see a team like the below line out (assuming all players go in and are fit):

1) J Furey
2) S Buggy
3) M Bambrick
4) D Curran
5) S Clarke
6) J Murphy
7) P McDonnell
8) C Doyle
9) Brendan Murphy
10) J Moore / J Clarke
11) J Morrissey
12) C Hulton
13) R Dunphy
14) D Foley
15) C Crowley

I'd play Brendan on the square with Foley

I'd switch Murphy for Murphy and I think you have a good team there

Well lads is Brendan Murphy back in or not?? Would be such a boost to this young panel. Imagine Murphy around the square alongside Foley. I know he hasn't committed the last few years but I think he could add so much & he is still the best club player in the county. We need everyone on board & with him promotion is a real prospect.

Hasn't being decided yet. Not even sure if it's up for discussion.
Knowing our lot, we will hear a few weeks before seasons start.

I would imagine it has to move back to evens if we want a hurling league to compete in. But I've heard of no vote or anything on it. Unless there was one at convention

Thanks for the info skippy and barrowsider. I thought it would of been sorted by now. Hopefully they don't leave it too long to make a decision either way.
