Replying To CARPS: "Mullins don't have a lot coming up, and my concern is that our two and a half team championship could soon become a one-team and two halves championship. Bagenalstown have a lot of young talent, but they find it hard to transition their better underage players to being consistent adult performers.
It'll be interesting to see how MLR get on in Leinster now without the excuse of the two months off, and football in between." I would agree, could see Rangers turning into a ballygunner esc side…

MLR were definitely the sharper side in the SHC final which was a good game but SM will rue getting so close and level and then missing that great chance when a bit of composure was needed. Interesting to see how MLR do now in Leinster. Tough draw but they're in great physical condition and when Chris is in the kind of form he was the other night they could beat anyone on their day. They'd need at least 3 good days to win another Leinster though but the timing of the finish to this years championship should suit them.
Very good second half performance for CTHC and a fully deserved win in the IHC. I think BR definitely need at least another year in intermediate and the notion of both teams being promoted to senior to even it up at 8 teams can be put to bed I think. They will get there as they are young enough and more young players are coming but next year is too soon for senior. If they can improve more they should win the IHC next year but likes of MLR second team will still be a good test for them. Going into senior now would set them back more I think. CTHC will have their work cut out but can target a couple of games next year for wins and even one win, like NB this year, would be progress. Again the young players are coming for CTHC but they just need to hang in there now for a few years at senior and they can be back as contenders by the end of the decade.
I was out in Fenagh this evening for the Minor Div 1 semi final. Brilliant game between Btown and Eire Og. The YIs are highly rated this year at minor but they were second best tonight with the town the better team over the whole team. Eire Og still won of course :( with a typical goal with the very last kick of the game. Fierce hard on Bagenalstown. Fair play to both teams though there's a lot of talent there and both teams served up as high a standard of minor football as I've seen in a while. Pal with Mark Buggy still minor will take all the beating in the final though. A big win in their semi tonight v last years champions St Martins. That minor final in a few weeks EO v Pal will be worth watching.

That minor final in a few weeks EO v Pal will be worth watching." A bit harsh saying YIs were second best. They were the better team in the first half and controlled it, up by 7 at half time. The town were a different team in the second half. They started winning breaks and running direct at Eire Og who had no option but to foul. If they got their noses in front when they pulled it back level initially they probably would have kicked on and then got hit with a sucker punch of a goal but they showed serious character to get back in front until suffering heartbreak at the end.
The town should have plenty off that team capable of playing senior football in the next few years based on tonight. They'll have to get themselves up for a minor hurling semi final next week too which wont be easy. Someone was telling me tonight that all bar 1 of their team also play hurling, a serious amount of dual players
What was noticeable was Eire Og were very systematic. Calling different plays when attacking, obviously designed to create pockets of space for certain players. All being said, its hard to beat off the cuff football!
Hard to see Pal losing the final but should be a decent game.

I didn't intend to be harsh on EO minors but over the hour IMO the town were the better team. Yes EO had loads of ball in the first half and led by 7 at ht but the goal was a gift after a mix up on a town kick out. Add to the fact that the town missed a good few frees in the second half and the fact that EO needed a last kick goal to win it I think it's fair to say town were better team. They dominated all the kick outs and owned midfield in the second half. That's just how I saw it. EO do rely on their structured build up play too much for me annd ultimately that ran into trouble when they got near the scoring zone as the towns defence was excellent. The amount of hands in at the lat second to prevent scoring attempts was impressive. They were the team also that played much more off the cuff and threw themselves into it. That's what I prefer to see in a team rather than a team that look over coached and seem afraid to risk losing the ball. Saying that I did acknowledge EO have a lot of talent and are a fine minor team, as good as any they've had over the years.

It was a game of two halves, eire Óg much the better in the first, bagnelstown in the second. Eire Óg missed two big goal chances in the first half too. Bagnelstown brilliant in the second half but missed a lot of frees, some of which I felt (as a biased Eire Óg man) were very soft. Would agree with your analysis of Eo being too structured. The best move of the game we had was the last for the goal and you couldn't get more off the cuff than that.
