The difference between Waterford and Longford/London teams is that they have been some what competitive at times previously or challenged in some shape of form. You can count Waterford's wins on one hand. I'm not saying to go and not give them respect while expecting them to roll over. Do give them respect but expect to win given our confidence and play so far this year.

Agree 100%. Each team playing us will fancy their chances of getting a result irrespective of where we think we stand. Absolutely have full belief in what you can do and how you can perform, but also expectations can have downsides and need to be carefully managed. Carlow of all counties need to approach each game the same as the hardest with full focus and respect for their opponents. This is the approach any serious side takes in any sport. To be fair the team will be prepared in this manner, sometimes it the support.

Giving your opinion is one thing, a sense of arrogance about it is another.

We were promoted in both 1983 and 1985 and we came second in Division Three South in 1986, but for some reason were bot promoted. Can't remember why. All this was under Vincent Harvey. Incidentally, Carlow have never been promoted under an outside manager. And we have never gone beyond a Leinster quarter final under an outside manager. The last two times was Turlough O'Brien and Luke Dempsey. I hope by the time Joe is finished, the county board will have finally woken up to this. I never want to see another outside manager over Carlow footballers again. Bringing in coaches is fine, if the bossman sees fit (like the Poacher experience), but the man at the helm must be a local. So many years wasted on this futile road. CARPS (Carlow) - Posts: 1028 - 20/02/2026 13:12:42 2657469 Link 0 |

All teams deserve full respect. Facts might suggest that Waterford are there for the taking, but facts are just that facts and nobody can know for definite what will happen in any match. We.struggled to beat Waterford last year and tomorrow night we might not win ! Very often when we have expected good perfotmances against div 4 teams, we have really struggled. Yes we should win given the facts but no guarantee. Longford Leitrim amd London will also be very difficult opponents.
