Ger was red carded, Jim wasn't. That's the crux of it. CCCC didn't decide to give Brennan 12 weeks, it's just the standard length for that red card. Same as a 1 game ban for a player is the standard.

What excuse did Dublin have for being outnumbered at a home Leinster final? Louth will outnunber you again on Sunday.

Hard to ignore the circus that was social media and tv/radio/podcasts etc over the past couple of days. The game was only a couple of hours over, and a Kerry pundit was parachuted into mention JMG in the same sentence as Ger Brennan in a post match analysis. The same analysis mentioned David Clifford for 20 secs, Burns red card for 20 secs and JMG for 3 and a half minutes. Very disproportionate considering the other 2 incidents. Regardless, we can look forward to Donegal and Kerry both getting on with their season now. Im sure Kerry will be just as relieved considering they could have been missing their key man for 2 games... Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3856 - 26/05/2026 14:13:58 2675747 Link 0 |

Well they definitely can't pull the neck of someone's jersey from the back while ripping their ear piece off and half stand on them while tossing them to the ground. A gentle shove in the chest might be ok if they deserve it.

The Irish Times have a slightly different slant on the news. They are saying that although not mentioned in the Referees Report, that the CCCC can still revisit it. SouthOfTheGap (Donegal) - Posts: 929 - 26/05/2026 14:22:04 2675758 Link 0 |

Thats irrelevant.Video evidence counts.Sure Murphy got a card in league final and that was reason they said they could nt do him again..One rule for Dubs another for Donegal

I think you need to park your obsession with Donegal Dave Brown and look at this a different way that could benefit the Dubs. Surely with no action on Jim, Brennan should consider another appeal?

It's actually extremely relevant. Take the blinkers off and look at the process.

It's an absolute disgrace. Both should have received bans. Liffeylad (Dublin) - Posts: 79 - 26/05/2026 15:04:18 2675780 Link 0 |

It's absolutely not irrelevant, and to claim otherwise shows a complete lack of knowledge or understanding of the Rule Book. Brennan was red carded and the referee's report would have included the details why. And while 12 weeks may have seemed heavy-handed for a relatively minor offence, it's the prescribed sanction in the Rule Book for that offence. The CCC had no discretion. McGuinness was not red carded and so the same circumstances don't apply. It's therefore highly relevant - indeed, it's the most relevant thing of all - that one manager was shown a red card and the other one wasn't. Now, the CCC could still have recommended sanction against McGuinness, based on video evidence alone. They've chosen not to do so. They had discretion this time, because they weren't operating within the same parameters of the Rule Book. No red card = no automatic minimum suspension. FWIW, I'd join others in expecting to see a motion next year to reduce the minimum suspension for that offence. It could seek to bring it down to just one month, or possibly even as little as two weeks. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 3697 - 26/05/2026 15:06:22 2675781 Link 0 |

Coupled with the good warm weather, some of them will need a lie down in a cold room today I'd say upon hearing the news.

This is from the above Irish Times article 'Comparisons have been made with the physical altercation involving Ger Brennan and Galway's strength & conditioning coach Cian Breathnach McGinn during a league fixture at Pearse Stadium in March, which led to the Dublin manager receiving a 12-week suspension. However, that incident is not a direct equivalent as Brennan was sanctioned by the referee at the time, with Fergal Kelly showing both men a red card, leaving the CCCC with little option but to recommend the minimum 12-week ban.' In that case the 4-5 Donegal ayers that surrounded DC after the hooter in the first half should be getting one mach bans for minimum striking actions as well. hlynch12 (Limerick) - Posts: 44 - 26/05/2026 15:59:57 2675805 Link 0 |
