Waiting in the long grass Monaghan are !"
I was merely having a bit of banter with farneygael3. You wouldn't understand.
Expecting a tough encounter Saturday....

Replying To greenfan:  "Couldnt understand why Farah wasn't taken off near the end, we were 15 points up at the time. I think it was more cramp than injury, seemed to be getting energy sachets from Antoin McFadden . Think Patton's issue was his shoulder, I'd say he will play even if shoulder isn't 100% because he's so important for kick outs. The games he missed were because of an ankle injury."
We'd no subs left to use by that stage. The management just told him to go up into the square. I thought he landed funny too going for a kickout on first glimpse but the way he was stretching afterwards before he loosened up it did indeed seem to be cramp.

Looking forward to Saturday now. Yes our backs are against the wall but we've a better team, manager and a much bigger support. Need to be fairly disciplined and take our chances when we get them. If we can do that and keep Monaghan from scoring goals I think we will win.
The sport needs us to win because Monaghan would be an easy semi finalist for any of the other 6 teams left!

Interested to hear your thoughts on what you think our best starting 15 would be now? Assuming that McGonagle, Patton, McGee, Niall O'Donnell and Gallen are near 100%? I know it can sometimes be the case that you're finishing 15 ends up stronger than your starting 15...Jim has some big decisions to make, especially in the half back and half forward lines.

For example, if McGonagle is ready for action does Ban drop out?
Caolan McColgan has really staked his claim to continue starting. Perhaps Dáire is better suited coming in when defences are tiring and he can launch two pointers if required?

No way McGonagle will be match fit and this game will come too early for him unfortunately. I think he was maybe rushed back against Tyrone and he wasn't as sharp as would be normally and I think a fully fit McConagle would have dropped that ball that led to the first Tyrone goal. I think he has been a massive loss as he seems to shore up the centre really well.

Personally I think Donegal will win because theyre a better team based on what both teams have done this year. Monaghan played one division 1 team this year (Donegal) and lost. They came through an easier group but what they'll face on Saturday is a step up in class. Donegal were comfortable in division 1, and are back to back ulster champions. I think we will be disciplined and won't give away too many fouls to give Beggan 2 point frees. The stronger bench should see us over the line with a few points to spare.

I don't think McGonagle starts if there's any doubts about him breaking down. I think Hughie starts before Jason. If everyone is fit, this is my squad.

1. Patton
2. Roarty
3. McCole
4. Mogan
5. Ryan
6. Ban
7. McColgan
8. Hughie
9. Langan
10. Shane O'D
11. Thompson
12. Moore
13. Conor O'D
14. Murph
15. Farrah

16. Mulreany
17. McMenamin
18. McGonagle
19. McFF
20. Jason
21. Daire
22. Eoghan McH
23. Aaron Doherty
24. Niall O'D
25. Paddy Mc
26. Jamie

Yeah McColgan is doing well and I'm fairly happy for him since he was one of our few bright sparks in the terrible 2023 season. The other one, Odhran Doherty is a player who I'd love to see more off at end of games. He's a brilliant club player and can score from anywhere, not sure why Jim doesn't fancy him. Oh well.

You're right about Daire. He's the type of player who can do serious damage in 10-15 minute bursts. Probably not what we need to start a game but he can get loads of scores from the bench.

Hard to drop Ban out right now. He's been solid and I definitely have egg on my face since I said a few weeks ago he likely wouldn't play much, how wrong was I. He seems back to his best.

I'd honestly start the same 15 as last weekend. Just need to make sure if we take a lead like we had in the last matchup, we don't dilly dally on the ball and allow them back into it. I suspect this game will nip and tuck from the start though.

I'm hoping we can use Jamie Brennan at some point on Saturday.
He's a very good footballer still. Probably deserves more game time

If Monaghan are so "easy" and you have a better team, management and support, why are your backs against the wall?
