Why would Solan attend club games on a Friday evening in Longford and step down on Monday if he had an offer in place and planned to go. It is clear he had requests to the CB but was refused and then left. Offaly acted fast then and got him appointed. Good young managers are a scarcity. They may have been well down the line in the recruitment process and struggled to get any candidates they were after hence a swift appointment of Solan. Our county board are on a very tight budget to try and have match funding in place for grants to get the COE off the ground. No match funding will mean no grants and with a small population and reduced fundraising capacity as a result compared to other counties it will be a struggle to finance the COE. I also believe the level of support the bi-weekly 50/50 draw is getting is appalling across the county. They are struggling to hand out €1k every 2 weeks. If we all are serious about supporting the county and supportig facilities development we should support and ensure it is a large jackpot every time, this in turn will gain traction from outside and get more entries for the chance to win datsit (Longford) - Posts: 41 - 27/08/2026 16:04:25 2691562 Link 0 |

Ardagh to pip Rathcline and Abbey to beat Mullinalaghta comfortably. The rest of the games mean nothing and so could go either way. Why is the Killashee and Killoe match postponed in the intermediate?

People are already supporting there own club draws too. To say that people need to keep shelling out is totally unfair, members of clubs are just after being forced to spend upwards of €3k per club on car draw tickets, there was a fundraiser dinner in johnstown house there was a race day also. Yes the COE needs support but your ordinary club members are not the people who should be forking out

The game has been wiped. Both sides already set to face each other in the relegation group phase anyway, a bit silly to call off a championship game over it though

How do we explain Diarmuid and his management team stepping away? Offaly hardly approached him as-well. This is squarely at the feet of certain members of the CB. Ask the players from both codes and they know exactly what went on and are happy to say it as it is also. Stunting the development of the provinces footballers and hurlers for the sake of the training centre is ludicrous. We will have excellent facilities in 10 years time and no teams to take to the field. Imagine sending a county team out to Shroid to train for the championship and expect that to be ok for a standard to set.

Diarmuid had a much better offer in a higher profile county as a coach that he could not turn down for his own career progression. He was done excellent work in the 2 years with Longford hurling. Couldnt blame him for accepting the new role.
