Replying To Leitrim_12:  "Promotion from division 4 and I would be more looking at a Connacht final and skipping the taltean Cup this year. New York in the quarter and then the winners of Sligo/London in semi.. All division 4 teams so no excuse not to be aiming higher. In saying that I'd say New York will be licking their lips at the game in April, we'll do well to get a victory."
Lovely and all it would be to get to a Connacht Final but we'll be bet out the gate. The only goal this season is promotion from Division 4. I don't care how we do it, I would argue that we should have got there last year but such is such. The rest is gravy on the top.

Any of Leitrim/Sligo/London or New York will be bet out the gate in a Connacht final. I would still rather see Leitrim there then losing to any of those teams. Yea promotion is the main goal but still a tough division 4 this year. Has been easier division 4 in the past that we have failed in.

Great venue and enjoyable game last night (a lot of good scores from both sides) but Galway just that bit better, looked like an experimental line out for ye last night too.

Thought Leitrim best spell was third quarter, brought some good intensity and took some good scores and were strong in the tackle throughout. Fingers crossed ye are set for a good year - hopefully meet again in the Connacht Final.

Galway have went even further ahead from the championship game last year which is a worry. A few positives we prob created 3 to 4 really good goal chances and a had a few poor wides. Leitrim prob had 26 shots at goal which isn't bad. Div 4 Is the huge one this year. I have no doubt we will bring our promotion charge to the last 2 games at home against Laois and Sligo. We will be well prepared and it may cone down to luck injuries wise.

Reaching a Connacht final and loosing means we're in the All Ireland proper... and likely 3 further beatings await us. Not in the long term interest of the team. The Tailteann Cup is our level at the moment and will be for the foreseeable. Not saying we shouldn't get a crack at Connacht but reality is we're nowhere near good enough to play in a final.

Not much to take out of last night only a few newcomers got an introduction to county football. We were never going to beat galway but the way they cut us open is worrying it was a huge problem last year too ,really hope Tom Quinn can tighten the centre of our defence up and hope Darren Maxwell gets a run if games in goal think he's our best option. The league is everything to us this year , we have to push on and try and get promoted most of this team is a long time together now in my opinion it's a pivotal season for this team and management. League will be tough lots of other teams looking to get up but if we are serious about progressing we need to find a way of digging out wins and getting into the top two.

Well then why not just boycott Connacht championship then so and head straight for tailteann cup. Obviously the goal would have to be Connacht final considering the draw we have got, saying anything else doesn't make sense.

I can't help you if you're not able to figure out why getting to a Connacht Final would be a bad idea for the long term development of the team. If we get there, we get there but as it stands we'll be doing well to beat New York never mind anyone else.

Here's my thoughts from the Game the other night. Firstly if the Gaa had the finance there should be more Domes. A great resource for this sort of game/coaching but not for anything serious.

First 15 minutes of abject Leitrim play really put that game to bed. (Understandably when we're playing someone who is not a goalkeeper in goals) We were getting destroyed on our own kickouts but the first 1-5 that Galway scored all came from poor Leitrim turnovers while we were attacking and Galway punished us.
This was followed by a brilliant Leitrim move and Jack Heslin should have had a goal but the Galway keeper made a good save. Would have really settled us.
Wheres Galways second goal was just a series of a calamities starting with the captain turning over the ball needlessly in Midfield to end the first half.
It may sound crazy as we were 2:12 to 0:5 down at half time but most of Galways scores cane from our poor kickouts or poor turnovers in the final third when attacking. With good coaching/analysis this can be improved on.

They must have gotten an eating at half time. As they were so much much switched on in the 3rd quarter. Second Half was like a different game. Darragh Rooney was excellent. Donal Casey drove forward and Paul Keaney showed he is more than capable at this level but will need time for S&C but can definitely be an impact sub come the league.
We were missing a whole load of starters obviously Galway were to but the depth of talent in each county is incomparable.
Came away happier than I should have after a big loss like that. In the end of the day it was really only a fitness opportunity

We're on about goals for this year. We both agree on getting promoted from division 4 in goal 1 but then you're saying we should loose to a division 4 team in Connacht in order to get a run in tailteann cup haha which doesn't make sense. Plus most of the leitrim panel have been together for 3/4 years now. Most of the panel are above 25.

I have already predict:
Division 4 will come down to the wire with Laois and Sligo being promoted. Leitrim finishing 3rd
New York will beat us in the championship and we'll probably get couple of rounds in tailteann cup depending on a handy draw.

Goalkeeper and kick-out still a major issue. Hopefully Darren Maxwell will get a run of games.
Defensively still a massive issue, any team with couple of decent forward and midfielder will cause us problems. I haven't seen much of Tom Quinn yet so maybe he'll solve that for us.
In the forwards we're still over reliance on Keith B for score and Ryan O'R having alot of injury over the past couple of years, couple that with none of the other forwards being able to setup to the mark and consistently contribute to 3/4 points each game,

The Tailteann Cup is our level... I can't help you if you can't see that and why it wouldn't be in the team's long term interests if we manage to get to a Connacht Final.

As for the rest well... good to see you're positive about Leitrim for 2023.... might as well not bother based on your train of thought. On the one hand you predict we'll not go any further than New York but in reality we should be aiming for a Connacht Final to get bet out the door?? Strange train of thought....

Answer me this, which of Leitrim, Sligo, London or New York aren't Tailteann Cup level, the last time I looked one of those teams makes the Connacht Final. We are talking about setting GOALS for the year. I would hope Andy Moran is looking at Connacht Final and not hiding in tailteann cup. Tailteann Cup is about give more games time too weaker counties at their level but yet you still want to be facing division 1/2 teams from time to time or else the gap will never close.

Also that's my personal prediction for the year, I've been following leitrim football for 20+ years and only missed handful of games. It's call being realistic and I've stated my current concerns about the team above. Obviously if they're addressed I'd be happy to be proven wrong in the coming year

New York only have chance of winning a Connacht championship game 2 out of 5 year cycle, Sligo scraped out of there last year. So they will be gunning for leitrim come April. My flights are still booked and don't worry I'll be at all league games also. So we can agree to disagree on above.

Am I right in saying one of NY..London , Sligo or Leitrim will make the Connaught Final and therefore be in one of the 4 groups competing for Sam Maguire..? If so it's a flawed system as whoever gets to the provincial Final will get thrashed in that and get 3 more hammerings in the group stages… How on earth will this improve them…? Time for seedlings at provincial level to help prevent this farce from occurring…

Yea that's how the draw was done this year. Personally I don't agree with it and think seeding teams would make more sense. Having one of Roscommon, Galway and Mayo making Connacht final is wrong.

Why would reaching a Connacht Final be a GOAL for the year given this years draw???? What benefit is there to reaching a Connacht Final to be bet out the gate and have 3 more pastings after that???? As I've said, we'll be doing well to beat New York (I would be confident we will all said)... a more ACHIEVABLE goal would be promotion & a Taileann Cup Semi Final or Final.

Assuming promotion, maintaining Division 3 status & finishing in the upper half of the table would be a more achievable goal next year and perhaps progressing further in the Tailteann. There are no quick fixes... playing Div 1 & 2 teams aint going to close the gap until the quality of player coming from underage improves and for that to happen our underage teams need to be beating their counterparts on a more consistent basis (which obviously isn't happening at the moment).

When you're facing division 4 teams in both quarter and Semi final. I would like to see Leitrim winning both. As I said before the Connacht series is broken and should be seeded so that Galway, Roscommon and Mayo don't end up on the same side of the draw.. However we are where we are.

That we beat 2 division 4 teams in the process. Sorry thought that was self explanatory. Anyways we'll agree to disagree on this, freedom of speech and all that.
