Inadvertently probably the closest thing to a bit of sense you have spoken here.

So you cannot give any specifics?? Thought as much. Giving out for the sake of it..........seems to be the norm here with some posters. You soapbox yes. The players DO get food after their sessions- don't be making up stuff and looking for sensationalism. It is quite tiring. Thanks in advance. bláthach (Leitrim) - Posts: 147 - 11/06/2025 13:33:19 2616661 Link 0 |
You're on about me making it an us and them thing and then you proceed to make it an us and them thing! The current location was done prob for ease of access for eastern seaboard based players as mentioned earlier. if we had all Leitrim lads based in the county or surrounding ones then a spot between Drumkeeran and Drumshanbo would have been the right spot, alas it cannot be the case. There's no reason that St Osnat's pitch couldn't be used I'm sure for local training, I'd agree it is silly that young lads have to go that trek three times a week, for what seems like little reward, and at expense too of their own social life and school work. boxtyburgerbuns (Leitrim) - Posts: 357 - 11/06/2025 13:34:37 2616662 Link 0 |
No issue with any of the points above however in defence of the centre of excellence, it's the best possible location that caters for the vast majority of clubs in the county in addition to easy access along the N4 for anyone coming from Dublin or even Galway. Yes, someone coming from Kinlough is not going to be best pleased and perhaps Manorhamilton / Dromahair / Glenfarne however for the other 20 clubs, the ground is within 35 mins drive (Aughawillan, Drumkeeran & Ballinaglera clubs being the furthest within that timeframe). As far as I was aware Leitrim GAA were looking to take over the St Osnatt's ground and perhaps in the future it could be developed as facility in the north of the county. However as it stands, the COE is in the best possible location to accommodate the majority of players.

You must be a WMU yourself. The development squads do have a structure. S and C overseen by the senior S and C coach to ensure continuity. Players receive more than just football coaching. If the players should be given all the minimums you've stated should the volunteer coaches that give up their time should be paid? On a side note, thoughts on 75 players eligible for u20 next season being but on a S and C programme? anon3 (Mayo) - Posts: 34 - 11/06/2025 21:27:32 2616787 Link 0 |
They shouldn't need to be put on a programme, they should be doing it themselves if they have any notion of being a top footballer

Not st osnatts pitch, it's a community pitch not vested in GAA

Do you not know that some of the posters on here like to blame the hierarchy for not having the "structures" in place for these young lads??? You cannot be talking sense saying they need to take responsibility themselves. These famous "structures" are not easily explained either as nobody can say what they are!! Wonder what "structures" there were back in the 90's when we had a very good team?? It's absolute nonsense and an excuse for lads not being up to it, or as you said not putting in the work themselves, even when they get a programme!! Can't blame "structures" (whatever they are) for that!!!! bláthach (Leitrim) - Posts: 147 - 12/06/2025 12:14:50 2616902 Link 0 |
Absolutely agree! But at the same time some clubs have absolutely no interest in providing it. anon3 (Mayo) - Posts: 34 - 12/06/2025 13:32:01 2616936 Link 0 |
As ever you're being disingenuous. It displays a lack of confidence on your part. In your case it manifests itself as trying to be a smart alec. No doubt that's a legacy of learned behaviour. Ironically, because of a negative experience you had with a prominent figure in your life, you're carrying it forward and trying to project it onto others. You're to be pitied. To make it simple for you to grasp, you're the classic example of monkey see, monkey do. If you really have to ask what the problems are then you ain't got a clue. Ballinamore were extremely poor. Fenagh looked good- looked very fit and played some lovely football. However, they met no match in what was an extremely limited and unfit looking Ballinamore team.
