The lads they have might stick it out for another year... I doubt either club would be applying for grants if they thought they couldn't field a team. I agree with the sentiment of your thoughs but these changes won't happen in the next 12 months that I'm sure of.

Nothing for Glenfarne who cannot play matches on their pitch as it is not up to standard? Bit strange, have they no interest in maintaining or improving it?

Maybe they can't raise the money needed to match the funding? No one is going to hand them something for nothing ... they have to put a few pound to it themselves.

Doesn't make a difference, they might have voted no but they still have to pay up based on all other clubs accepting it. I believe they suggested (or threatened might be a better word) to levy/fine the club or take recipes from their home games if they didn't comply. Agree, they already received 300k before this for a 380k job. The remaining 80k was taken from clubs without even trying to raise it themselves. It's a kin to the old feudal land system. Most clubs don't see the later stages of the championship so they never get to use it anyway so I can sympathise with the clubs discontent... nevertheless the surface was bad and this development is 10 years overdue. Always hated playing in Pair Sean myself due to the surface. leitrimlad15 (Leitrim) - Posts: 108 - 26/09/2024 12:17:55 2571922 Link 0 |
Maybe they did apply and got rejected. As generous as the pay out's was, not every club that applied receiving funding. No Ballinaglera, Drumshambo, Leitrim Gaels, Melvin Gael or Cloone either leitrimlad15 (Leitrim) - Posts: 108 - 26/09/2024 12:24:04 2571926 Link 0 |
My own club didn't pay among others as far as I'm aware

I was recently driving through Kiltyclogher in North leitrim. It's a fairly sizeable village. Where do the locals play their football? Manor or Glenfarne? Leitrimforliam (Leitrim) - Posts: 325 - 26/09/2024 13:23:49 2571954 Link 1 |
Not yet they didn't. Loads of clubs were going top vote against it but when it came down to it, only 2/3 max actually voted against it. From what I remember l was supposed to be a stand together and most renege. leitrimlad15 (Leitrim) - Posts: 108 - 26/09/2024 13:29:03 2571956 Link 0 |
This would ruin the very fabric of Leitrim football, the idea of the GAA is all around local communities. We have seen what the Saudi league has done to soccer. We cannot allow this to happen to Leitrim football. It will only be a matter of time before we have Sheikh McPartlans playing for Drumkeeran!

It fairly clearly says it in the name as its Glenfarne Kiltyclogher. So I would expect people living In Kiltyclogher to play for Glenfarne. I would suggest you think before you comment in the future.

I attended a game recently and I was just wondering about the role umpires can play in a game?, I'm aware the ref brings his own four with him all properly family/friends/same club. I witnessed awful lot of pulling and dragging going on and they never bothered calling the refs attention to it. I thought to myself how annoying it must be for the player involved to be dragged around the place and nobody doing anything about it. Plus his linesmen where of no use the couldn't even keep up with play. The ref infarness was excellent and it was hard for him to keep an eye on everything bit I just thought he was let down by his team on the day. Surely if you are umpiring at a game u at least need some sort of training? I believe none is available? Weaternpro (Leitrim) - Posts: 63 - 26/09/2024 15:21:27 2571978 Link 0 |

Was this in a intermediate game or senior

Technically yes. But Glencar had their own club a while back and there was still Glencar Manorhamilton. One of Melvin Gaels main forwards is from Glenfarne. It's all a bit fluid in the Glens.

Didn't get to see any of the semi final action (holidays) Mohill and SOH both worth their win? williesboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 418 - 26/09/2024 16:56:40 2571994 Link 0 |
The Carrick "system" runs aground once it hits the opposition D. Possession trumps all else and its to the detriment of attacking play Tom Prior has added more scores to his repertoire for SOH. ThePowerhouse (Leitrim) - Posts: 140 - 26/09/2024 17:46:47 2572001 Link 0 |
I think it would be a great idea, nothing wrong with a bit of diversity

Big game in Balinaglera tomorrow evening, Annaduff to shade it! lecture250 (Leitrim) - Posts: 131 - 27/09/2024 13:44:17 2572101 Link 0 |
Who does everyone fancy for the intermediate? think it's close between Allen Gaels and Carrigallen for me. Leitrim123 (Leitrim) - Posts: 1 - 27/09/2024 15:47:25 2572118 Link 1 |
Was at Annaduff V Manor game this evening. Thought Manor were well worth win. James Rooney best player on the field by a Country mile organised all Manors attacks from Centre Back and kicked two pts myself. Cruel way for the Duff to go down especially seeing the way the Q/S slipped from their grasp. I was very impressived with the Manor number 27 was making savage runs off the ball and kicked at least one special pt. Anybody know his name?
