As you say it is not the GAA's fault, it is the government for their stupid housing policies and high tax rates that make it nearly impossible for a young lad starting out to rent or buy their own place so are stuck living with the parents. Every year we hear the same story 'oh if we had such and such a lad in the country'. Just saying if the county board/manager like to bring it up so much maybe they should be doing more to keep lads here. I don't blame the lads for leaving football isn't the be-all and end-all. Really strong statement by the Hurling Board and a right cut at the county admin in general however the treasure does receive the most of it. If we are honest and you are head of a county board I have no doubt that spending thousands on hurling isn't ideal and would make life a lot easier for the administration of the county to have that money for football, however for the people involved in hurling in the county they are as passionate about it as Brian Cody is in Kilkenny and for that they deserve the respect of competing at the level they feel fit and not be told by people who have zero interest in the game what level they should play at. A solution has to be found within the county how the hurling team could be funded better. While an extra 70-80k been pumped into the football would only benefit if that is been spent on underage coaching and coaches and not at senior level. What are the possibilities of getting 5 club teams going in Leitrim. Ballinamore and Gortlettragh used to have clubs so it wouldn't be too hard getting them going again. Maybe the 5th team could be stuck in Drumshambo. Very unlikely but it'd be great to stick the finger to croke park and the county board. We will never compete with anyone half decent. Focus on the hurling anyone who plays it. I think underage hurling was going in some clubs like mohill and drumshanbo (possibly Carrigallen? Anyone got a list of football rankings, albeit an unofficial one/ But yeah we would be 30-33. Sorry it was actually 1965 ,but I think Leitrim are missing a trick ,mayo have created a junior championship and now they even have a junior b and sligo have followed suit ,this year so on paper mayo have 10 adult teams ,while sligo have 7 ,5 senior and 4 junior including 2 second teams ,Leitrim should create a junior competition and put n 3 teams to it ,problem solved.. Are you talking about hurling? I think it is clear our county board want rid of hurling. It's a very good idea though. Could put Gort, Ballinamore and another team or possibly two into a second tier competition. It would be competitive as all teams would be on an even level. We've only won 10 championship games since 2010 and 5 of them were against London or New York. So I think I'd be happier watching a Leitrim hurling team competing in the Christy Ring. A competitive hurling team would be better to follow than a bottom tier football team, and a team with big enough money spent on them with no return.
