OCean FM gave good coverage this evening As for Shannonside!!!!! joeman123 (Leitrim) - Posts: 504 - 12/08/2023 22:19:48 2500247 Link 1 |
I see Mike Solan has left the leitrim senior set up and Andy Moran in the media talking about brining in replacement. Surely this summer was the opportunity to part ways wit Moran I don't think it's for the best for him or leitrim to carry on with the same manager. How come Melvin Gaels didn't field in junior today? Are they thrown out of championship and their Junior c team too, or do they just forfeit the points. Mary's second team look very strong in this grade. green.and.gold (Leitrim) - Posts: 427 - 13/08/2023 20:25:02 2500344 Link 0 |
As a Gaels man it's embarrassing we coudnt field a second team due to numbers. I've heard the junior c team can't play a game until the junior As do so no junior c game will go ahead for us until so.

Moran will go on his own terms it seems. Big shoes to fill with Solan going?

Will ye be able to field a junior c team if struggling for numbers for junior A?

How have they a Jnr C team entered and cannot get enough bodies for a jnr A team? Eslin drew with Annaduff in a very tight game today, poor showing from Eslin who were lucky to get a draw, only for the 2 Beirnes they would be jnr C gaelsboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 565 - 13/08/2023 21:47:29 2500363 Link 0 |
Yes 100% junior c panel is big but a lot of players don't want to play up leaving a very skint junior a team. As well as a lot of players being away this weekend. Few strong words were dealt out won't be conceding a junior champo game again.

Why would they be thrown out??. Mohill's 2nd team conceded on the same day as their 3rd them played a few weeks back and got to play in 2 finals after it without any implications so why should it be any different for any other club

It's laughable ... Moran is apparently 'excited' to see who he can bring in to replace Solan. It's a disaster. As a county and supporters paying for all this, we've been mugged.

The rules regarding this for the league are different for championship, in championship the punishment is more severe. wouldn't get too hung up over junior football anymore, the county board have made it irrelevant with their eligibility rules, any injuries to first team players and the junior team are weakened which ruins the competitiveness of it

How much are you paying Square D? There are a few disasters in the county alright and they have been well listed here and in the Leitrim Observer ,but the team management is not one of them. joeman123 (Leitrim) - Posts: 504 - 14/08/2023 11:47:55 2500441 Link 0 |
100% correct and if clubs fail to turn out a second team, it will lead to a drop off in lads playing which hurts clubs and county It was always first 17 and that was it and i dont think to many had a problam with that It was a joke last year and will be same this year sparkie (Leitrim) - Posts: 72 - 14/08/2023 12:05:21 2500445 Link 0 |

No one had a problem with it until Mohill bet glenfarne well in a final 2 years back, as far as im aware the rules about eligibility were brought in as a result and most clubs went along with it. I know a few lads in my own club got very little football last year because injured lads came back and took lads places and they weren't allowed to play for second team.

We'd be very lucky if we got someone of his caliber. I'll eat my hat if it happens as I couldn't see him coming in under a Moran setup. He'd get it after Moran if he really wanted it anyhow. I get this feeling that Micky is waiting for his next big job and nothing fancies him at the moment.

I wonder is there call for a regrading of players after the group stages -- name a revised 15, 18 or whatever for the knock-outs? I think this was discussed in recent years. Very tough on players who start Round 1, then lose their place to stronger players coming back from injury or travel, and have little or no football for the rest of the championship.

Leitrim job be a perfect fit for him too and it's close to home and would avoid meeting Cavan

Agree with you.. Maybe after 2 or 3 games, clubs could apply to have players redesignated? Say a player started for his senior team in the first game but didn't play in the next 2 games, as another player took his starting spot. Maybe the club should be able to swap him with his senior replacement.? Also, could a case be made for a goalkeeper exemption. An 1st team's outfield player could play in goal for the 2nd team and the 1st teams goalkeeper could play outfield for the 2nd team. It could help develop quality goalkeepers. Alot of the best goalkeepers in the country play outfield for their clubs, Cluxton, Shane Ryan etc! Leitrim2024 (Leitrim) - Posts: 61 - 14/08/2023 14:58:23 2500499 Link 1 |
It would be even better for players if it were after 2-3 games but I think that would be hard to legislate, and would probably lead to some confusion etc. County board would have to do it case by case. The goalkeeper exemption is a nice idea too. Although, would some clubs play an outfield player in goal for the first game, then switch to their #1 choice goalie for the next, so they'd have a better outfield player available for the next team? That'd have to be nailed down but could work well in theory. We definitely need to look at improving our club players, even the reserves, any way we can. Melvin Gaels' case is interesting. Most clubs obviously prioritise their first team, and then the next, with the occasional stroke pulled so that a certain player can play for the second team while featuring heavily for the first. I assume their first team has lost players over the last few years and now the A team is struggling to field, but the C panel had great numbers last year and, I'm sure, is hoping to retain their title from 2022. It looks like they were due to play this weekend and now they and the other teams in their group have to wait until the A team's situation is resolved. Creidim...
