Listening to Padraig Joyce if ur not play well for ur club u won't get playing for Galway I'd say he prob was not at 2 club matches all year maybe final def at no intermediate matches if that case comer played one match for club Hernon maybe 2 he def played more in America,, most supporters coukd prob name team that will play in championship maybe not the position because management have being know to pick players in crazy positions but I can't see 2 many changes when it come to it Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 1111 - 03/12/2025 21:07:57 2646962 Link 0 |

Interesting where he noted he was undecided as to whether he would stay on or not after last year but that there didn't seem to be a better alternative manager available so he's still there. Have to agree with him on this and it's something co board need to look at in future planning and could be bringing someone like that into backroom team with view to taking over in 2-3 years. Maybe that's what's in mind with Kev Johnson taking over the u20s. Gaagael15 (Galway) - Posts: 15 - 04/12/2025 08:16:27 2646974 Link 0 |

Clubman of ours involved with the Galway Minors. He said its nearly impossible to get it right and give new players an opportunity. There was over 120 players in for 3 trial sessions that overlapped with the end of u16/u17 competitions and the start of school football and returning soccer season. 2026 season isn't far away so those numbers are cut to 40 already and then down to 35 in January. 4 /5 of the 35 will be u16s to develop them for 2027 and 95% of the other 30/31 were Ted Web u16 panellists in 2025. Tough on lads trying to break in but management going with who the already know from the panel they Coached successfully at u16 this year. People in the know believe that this is the best crop of U17's we have had for a few years. If that is true hopefully we have a management/coaching team capable of harnessing this undoubted talent!

Hard to read much into the new national ran Ted Webb cup it was better when ran by the Connacht GAA. It's very spread out nowadays and any U16s on the county minor panels don't tend to line out in certain games

Cunningham won't be available fully until Brigit's exit or win the All Ireland. He will be a good addition and a likely next manager in waiting.

Yeah the tournaments that the development squads play in are hard to gauge nowadays. Most of the larger counties have more than one u16 team and in several counties they are purely divisional rather than being an A and a B team in terms of supposed quality. The Kerry team that Galway beat in the final was a divisional one for example (North Kerry) rather than being their strongest combined team. 2025 was the first time that I can remember in recent times where Galway did not field divisional teams so that was our strongest u1 team that won it Also, not all of the stronger counties enter the Ted Webb (Tyrone for example). Mayo had two u16 teams and I believe entered the weaker of their 2 teams in the Ted Webb (open to correction in that though). All that being said it was great to see us winning some silverware again at that grade. Hopefully we have a good 2026 minor run - it would be great to see after the last few poor seasons. galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 1336 - 04/12/2025 15:41:52 2647049 Link 0 |
