Was in the stadium Saturday. Oughterard looked finished going in at half time on level pegging with Claregalway after playing so poorly and facing a galeforce wind in the second half.

But they emerged a different team. Some astute changes and superior fitness got them over the line.

Saw the second half of the, MB v Caltra. Can't see Caltra winning intermediate on this performance. MB beat themselves imo. They had a galeforce wind in the second half, and were only 3 pts a drift at the break and looked like a team in the driving seat. But they didn't seem to have a game plan and looked totally puffed and stuck to the ground, just simply not fit enough. Surely at this stage of the competition fitness would not be an issue with all the money teams spend on preparation.

Caltra are most certainly not the same force as last year after losing 2 or 3 dual players and I can't see thembeen in the mix for silverware.

Whoever wins between Caltra and Aran will be hard stopped. The islanders seem to be back playing well this year. Topped a group with Caherlistrane (just down from senior) and Corofin B (who just hammered Glenamaddy). They probably got the toughest draw though from the preliminary round in Caltra.

St Brendan's v Caherlistrane another interesting one. Hard to look beyond those four.

Dunmore are nice to watch at times but would want to seriously shore things up at the back or Corofin could get 5 or 6 goals on them. The ease with which Leitir Mór opened them for 4 goals is a serious wake up call for them. For one thing, C Gleeson, with all his top level IC experience, can surely be better at getting what's in front of him a bit more organised.

Hard to see any of the preliminary winners beating the group winners. Annaghdown happy to get year over and done with how did Damo play? Wrap him in more cotton wool til April. Barna & Michaels a coin toss. Barna a team who have offerred noting in senior and might be no harm to go down and have a crack at winning a trophy or going on a run but think they will have enough for Michael's shows the gap between senior & inter with Michael's going straight down. Intermediate wide open and could make a case for any amount of teams but feel it will be Brendan's Caltra & Spiddal. Will Brendan's being in hurling be a hindrance? Have no idea what cross over there is if any to be honest.

They conceded 1 goal in group stages so Sunday seems to have been an outlier

Replying To LottoPlus:  "I could not see nor anyone in the stand around me could see how Oughterard got the penalty. We got one earlier soft, but this one was ridiculous. I was gutted and the felt for the lads who battled with a very young team. I think the future is very bright for Claregalway. Just need to hold onto lads. I think we will have Frank Fox in 3-4 years.
I also went to Tuam on Saturday to see Annaghdown v St Michaels expecting to see Annaghdown get relegated and to be honest they deserve some credit. Hobbling through the year with injuries, they pulled off a shock.(Well I thought Michaels would win). Their second half was totally different that the first and they seem to change tactics Kilcommins sat back in centre back and quieten Higgins (who I thought had a great first half) Comer although injured was brilliant, Frankie Burke rolled back the years. On a sour note I thought referee gave Micheals some awful soft frees. Not as bad as our match but not great either.
We have some really good referees out there but the two I saw at the weekend were not two of them. Football referees have everything they want now, no talk back, no abuse, respect from players but this must be 2 ways. The referees need to be up to speed with the rules and also respect the players and be fair."
These games overlapped Saturday how did you attend both

Made the trip to see this game, some nice footballers on show for both teams and i believe Kevin Johnson was also in the crowd taking note of the talent available to him. Ross Coen was impressive, such a powerful runner will have a big say in u20s. Corofin full foward was also very impressive, not sure of his name. Dunmore just seemed a better balanced team overall with not to many standouts. They have a lad around the middle who looks a strong player, Hannon i think is his name is (Cousin of Damien Comer was mentioned to me) and 2 or 3 very clever forwards. Apparently this latest group of Dunmore 19s were not competitive and very poor at u17 level but whatever Dunmore are doing coaching wise they are producing year after year in this age group. I count 3 Northboard u19 Finals in 5 seasons.

Replying To anotheralias:  "It wasn't a clear free but it was a free. Reason is that the defender was very cute. He pulled mchugh and then put his arms in the air. Defenders often do this and get away with it and i don't blame the ref as it is a very difficult spot. Least said about the reaction the better as it was excessive and inexcusable, but to me the reaction further confirms that there was a pull. I think killanin were starting to look stronger and would have pulled through in extra time but I am firmly of the opinion that if the first game hadn't have gone to ET and it was wasnt running late then the free would have been given."
The defenders "I can believe you gave him a free" reaction was a sure sign of guilt, Hard to fathom how it wasn't given.

Tuam could be in a bit of bother at the weekend with Brian Mannion and McGlinchey likely both out injured. Will be a good sign for their strength in depth if they can get through Kilannin without those two.

What is wrong with McGlinchey seems to be out all year?

Got a bad hamstring injury training with the Galway Seniors. For all his hype, he has barely featured for the u20s last season, rarely played for Tuam u19s, didn't play for St Jarleths at all last season and only played a handful of games for Tuam Seniors. Word is he is also being approached by Aussie Rules scouts, could be the next James McLoughlin where injury could derail the potential. He is due a big season for the u20s next year if fit. Though id imagine Ciaran Mulhern will be given the captaincy over Mcglinchy after his year

Hard to call it at the weekend, I can see a few upsets.

Do I think Maigh Cuillin, Tuam , Corofin and Salthill are all sure bets, absolutely not.

Great day of football, the big 4 in Galway all win and go into mouth watering semi finals..

Corofin swatted Dunmore aside, Salthill the same with James, but James did put up a good fight..
Killanin pushed Tuam all the way, Brian Mannion a big loss there but the introduction of a half fit Shay Mc Glinchey was the turning point, he set up tje goal to win it..

Intermediate was great , super game this evening in Tuam..
Spiddal rocked up the goals against a non existing Cortoon defence.
Caltra and Corofin through as well..

My tip...

Salthill and Tuam for the final
Brendans and Caltra Intermediate

Top 4 into the last 4, was hoping for a upset this weekend but ultimately the best teams are in the semi finals. Corofin were only in 3rd gear today which is scary, Salthill/K are peaking at the right time....it will be some battle.

Killannin clearly closest to the top 4. Everyone else...... They are not really worth talking about, not going to win it and need a lot of work to even challenge. Oughterard need a bench, Dunmore need better backs and a game plan for when their forwards can't shoot, and James's need more gas. Killannin just need another back or two - fitness showed in ET but hardly the first team to collapse in ET. The pqf losers probably very disappointed.

Nice repeat of last year's games. Moycullen & Corofin the two that really blew away their opponents so they are the scariest for semi final. Probably a Corofin Moycullen final and as we've seen the last 2 years, moycullen can't beat Corofin when it matters. Especially with burkey back. Another Corofin all star to match all of salthill's.

I was sceptical of them up to now but Salthill seem to have more gears than everyone else. They are definitely deserved favourites after today's performance
