Replying To togoutlads:  "I see that Down have two players on the list of top championship scorers from play - Danny Magill, on 21 points, joint 3rd, behind David Clifford and Rob Finnerty. Pat Havern is joint 8th from play on 19 points. Those two will take immense work from our markers and our defenders zonal work to try and shackle. Havern is 5th highest scorer overall, on 39 points this championship - very accurate off frees and two point frees. We'll need serious discipline and work rate. Just as Tally has since admitted that Derry went all out to fully target the Galway fixture, we're obviously going to get the same with Down in a knockout game on their home patch. We'll need to bring from the start what we brought in the second half in Breffni. We're having coronaries on the stands and terraces watching these slow starts from us - bring us a fired up, blistering start lads!! Can't wait!"
Some really good players on that Down team, Pat Havern apparently has galway ties.

Looking forward to the game on Saturday, Galway are in with a big chance of pulling off a smash & grab.

Down are probably a top three team so Galway will have to be deciduous on if they show the full hand or not.

I fully support Joyce on his plans, he believes !!@

Replying To togoutlads:  "And Monaghan? Louth - Leinster champs? Donegal in Ulster semi? Hardly all lightweight teams now are they? On the scoring danger those key men bring, for example, Havern got 8 points against Donegal that day. I don't think they're just scoring against 'lightweight' teams.
By the way, Down lost by 6 points to Donegal in Ulster but Down left 3 serious goal chances after them.
They're champing at the bit for us in Newry, an ounce of complacency on our part and this could be all over for us. We have to be ready from the first ball and rip into them."
Our intensity at the start of matches has been nowhere so far all championship, needs to be targeted the next day out. We have fallen into a habit of being passive/standoffish and that lets teams get the first few scores. Whether it's a mindset thing or warmup related who knows, but if it continues it's hard to see us keep getting away with it.

It's still playing old rules defensively.

That is why I would be reluctant to start Daly he is an organiser and outstanding passer but could be exposed defensively

More evergreen surely? Top3 or Division3, unlikely to be both?

Down will be a top-3 Division 3 team next year, I'd be almost certain of that. They might also just edge in as a top-3 'starts with D' county, behind Donegal and Dublin, although Derry would definitely have an argument there.
The championship is getting to the deciduous stage alright, where it will be shedding teams every round. We need to get to the root of our bad starts and start pulling up some trees if we want to go all the way.

PJ needs to rest some players, eg McHugh, Silke, Conroy and give more game time to the likes of Flaherty, Molloy, Heaney & Hernon

Back to Sunday great to be still in championship. Travelling to newry Sunday
Need to bring energy from the start and not when 5-6 pts down"
*Lives, as everyone here like to point out typo's.

Think the Galway forum gets a lot of attention because other counties fans are a bit perplexed by the media coverage of them. It appears OTT considering the relative level they are at, i.e. up there but definetely not the best team in the country and certainly not the front 1 or 2 for Sam, at any stage, despite what the media say. A few good players and a lot of average but well conditioned, well coached players, would be the consensus outside the county. Not this awesomely talented super team who should have wiped Armagh off the field last year.
It is interesting to get the Galway fans POV, it would appear the media hype has got into the county.

By the time you reach a final, you're in the top2 for Sam, so your use of 'at any stage' is incorrect.

Once you lost the first game in group and the group being as tough as it was it was impossible to rest anyone in the eyes of management. Armagh had that chance the last day as they were already through. After Derry game galway knew that to win an all ireland it was 5 wins in row. Tough ask, I suppose it comes down to trusting your panel, would Hernon for mc hugh weaken the team ? No I'd say, o flatherty for silke again I'd say fla would b grand.
