"In defence of Cody, I honestly don't think there's another manager in Kilkenny who would do better with that group of players. There's no one saying "he should be winning All Irelands with the talent at his disposal". He wrings every last ounce out of them. But on balance I think he should have stepped aside a couple of years ago to let someone else have a go, if only just to have a fresh face in charge, new ideas etc. The guy just doesn't think like that, though"

It's hard to know whether Kilkenny would have offered a better challenge than Cork. The Cody factor, with his huge experience of All-Ireland finals, could have made a difference. But I don't think Kilkenny, or any other county, would have beaten Limerick this year, the only question is how many points they would have lost by."
They would have lost by far fewer points than Cork, I'm almost sure of that. Limerick would have beaten any other team in that final, but Cork's performance also has to be questioned."
Kilkenny lost to Tipp by a similar scoreline in 2019 and have got a trimming in each final that they lost.
Despite the reviews it got - that Cork Kk semi final was really woeful stuff and Kk would most defintely have got a similar beating to what Cork got. That Limerick team is better than the Tipp team of 2019 or 2016 and the Kk team is worse so I've no doubt they (or any other team) would have been well beaten on the day. But yes I do agree that Cork were exceptionally poor on the day but no worse than they were in the semi final when Kk were actually worse than them

Unlike Cork, Kilkenny would not have lost by a similar score line if they had 15 men on the field for most of the match.

"and have got a trimming in each final that they lost"
I haven't a clue what you are talking about here.

"that Cork Kk semi final was really woeful stuff and Kk would most defintely have got a similar beating to what Cork got."

To say KK 'would most definitely have got a similar beating to what Cork got is nonsense. Nothing is 'definite' in sport.

Mores the pity! I've seen some average Kilkenny teams, not many now, but they always played to the best of their ability.

It was a flippin cracker.

Kilkenny under Cody have lost 5 All Ireland hurling Finals 1999, 2004, 2010, 2016 and 2019. With the exception of the 1999 Final which they lost by a point, Kilkenny were well beaten in the other Finals. They lost 2004 by 8 points, 2010 by 8 points, 2016 by 9 points and 2019 by 14 points. Think that's what he's getting at.

To say KK 'would most definitely have got a similar beating to what Cork got is nonsense. Nothing is 'definite' in sport."]The original post said a Cody team would have me done a lot better than Cork did against limerick but there's zero evidence to state that and the results show when Kk lose all Irelands in the Cody era why are well beaten in them and Cody never makes changes to counteract that. You don't need to read Tyrells book to know that.
I'm not dismissing Cody as a manager but dismissing the point that they would defintely have done better.
Any hurling man that thought the quality of play in the Cork Kk game was any way close to a high level would want to look back at the game again. I said a before the all Ireland that if cork played like that that limerick would get 10-12 scores from turn overs but they got a lot more. I do wonder what game some people watch and they are so easily influenced by pundits and journalists
