no it doesnt, says he fellah doing the ripping is a bit of a thug...no one sees anything wrong with the fact its a fellow county mans shirt, so much for all this "wearing the jersey with pride" if thats all you think of your opponets shirt...

Have you added the southwest and southeast to your little observation about people who see nothing wrong with it?Could be an interesting theory on "society" although maybe not how you think it is

Southwest noted but not the same volume...interesting many think its ok to rip off shirt litterally off an opponent yet in hurling interfering with helmet was (rightly so) made a red card offence even though all helmets are onluy closed with two press fasteners which pop open with a small bit of force..I heard a leading referee refer to interfering with the helmet as well as dangerous as also interfering with the player/person as in there personal space...grabbing a player by the throat and tearing the jersey off him of course isnt anything like that to some..is part and parcel of the game..well we live and we learn as the saying goes...

If the jerseys were better made they wouldnt rip.

The reason the rule about helmet interference was introduced was because it could lead to serious neck injuries causing paralysis. I dont think anyone ever got paralysed from their shirt getting ripped.

I agree with this, I also think that instead of a hop ball, two players should get into their pyjamas and have a pillow fight to determine who gets possession. Much less violent.

so swinging or pulling somone to the ground by the neck of the jersey (or shirt in other social settings where people have been seriously hurted) never got paralysed or seriously hurted...good to hear if thats the case..rough deliberate behaviour in any setting has and will result in serious injury..the post is being delberately derailed from what I see...again, the ripping (deliberately) of any jersey given it is a county emblem (like a flag) (worn supposedly with pride but some seem to think its only a bit of a rag or cloth) shoudl be a red card offence...if it explains it a bit better for those whom think its grand, it should be maybe a booking or yellow card at least...you are showing a complete lack of respect not only for your opponent, but also for their county garment...its very simple and nothing to me trivialised I think...anyway...some people see nothing wrong with such behaviour..the mind boggles...

I dont think the modern jerseys are strong enough to pull someone to the ground by. If it's not a red card to rugby tackle a lad to the ground it's hard to say its justified to red card a player for pulling someone's jersey.

You're putting a lot of words into a lot of people's mouths just to high horse. Nobody has called anything a rag. I get the feeling most people just think a red card is too severe a punishment, but you somehow think this is a shocking indictment of modern society and poor reflection on certain parts of the country based on a handful of individual opinions you've generalised inconsistently. Go out and get some fresh air and try to get things in perspective.

Wasn't there a Jersey ripped off from the Brits in 1940? As far as I'm aware they recoverd it in 1945! Word is they blamed the Sleeveens!

Mayo would be way better than any other county at that. They'd be experts at the Pajama Game!

Don't remember Peter C but will take your word for it.
Now Sean Cavanagh, that's a different matter. I'm sure he was involved in that kind of thing also.
And seemed not to be over it the first few times he appeared on RTE as a pundit- well upset he was. Oh a right pair of scamps Dermo & Sean C.
