Mayo V Tyrone All-Ireland Football Final

Replying To BilboNaggins:  "Tyrone beat a very poor Kerry team , who were some bad shot selections away from reversing the result. Tyrones forward line was poor enough, McCurry is an overrated footballer who when faced with proper intercounty standard backs was kept very very quiet. Morgan kicked an absolute peach from the half way line, but apart from that hes nothing short of a liability , Tyrone lost the majority of the kickouts that they went long with, he also missed some fairly straight forward free kicks and 45s . Its mad that Tyrone havent got a forward who is reliable enough to take frees.
Tyrone also gave away some very poor turnovers with this habit they have of playing around with the balls at the back.

The final was played last weekend when Mayo beat Dublin. Either of those teams would make mince meat of the teams on show yesterday. It might come across as harsh, but its how i see it, id expect Mayo to win by at least 4 points when they play the red hands. Tommy Conroy , Keegan and Ruane will destroy Tyrone.

Its time for us all to see Mayo win an All Ireland in Color"
I see by the way you spell colour you spent a long time in America, so your forgiven for not watching much football.

Replying To HokeyPokey:  "An... interesting... take.

On McCurry, there were two men on him whenever he received the ball so can't be too harsh and he came up with a couple of big points from play while having a quiet day."
Another quiet day will be no good to Tyrone in 2 weeks....Tyrone struggled for a long time with working the ball into the forwards, but it was their only option as plan A of a diagonal ball into McCurry was a failure. Whether Fumbling the ball, being caught in possession, or letting it bounce over his head, its just not the type of things a team can get away with in an all Ireland final

Pretty much. It will be the youngsters that will get mayo through if they are to win, which I think they will, just.

Well Bilbo, after your call on how the Tyrone/Kerry game was going to go, this reads like the kiss of death for poor Mayo.

You wouldve lost to Dublin. You dont have the inner strength Mayo needed to beat them. And nor will you til you have lost a few big games and won a few big games. The Ulster teams came close many times before they had it. The great Dublin team likewise. The best 2 teams this year are in the final. Same as every year.

Wait a minute....are you actually trying to make a case that Galway would have so comfortably bet Dublin that you are actually talking about Galway missing out on playing in a final against Tyrone? .......

....the Galway that have been completely absent from the business end of the championship since the noughties (besides that super 8 nonsense)?

'held our heads against Mayo' i don't think the second half can be so simple fixed with that!

Held our heads? We couldn't hold their runners or hold on to our to own kickouts.
We were lucky to only lose by 6 in the end. Mayo ran through us at will in the 2nd half.

I think we would have taken Dublin , a lot of people underestimate the Galway team, the talent is there but we dont have the management to release its full potential. I dont think Tyrone are in the top 2 in the country, they were fortunate to beat a 14 man Donegal team and a very very rusty Kerry side. Mayo to their credit have had tough encounters against ourselves and Dublin , Ulster is a competitive province but alas their top team wouldnt beat Dublin and wont beat Mayo

Tyrone don't rely on McCurry as yesterday proved. McShane, probably the best forward in 2019, made a big impact and could start. Mattie Donnelly will possibly play sometime inside too. Both are excellent ball winner. Canavan or Bradley too may also come in.

McShane is a good footballer but hasnt played his best football since 2019, his handling has been poor in the last 2 games he has come on in, he looks like a player who needs lots of games but as we know that isnt an option. He probably wont even start the final, Canavan, Bradley and McShane coming off the bench wont be enough to win Tyrone sam.

Nonsense, are you seriously suggesting that Galway would have beaten Dublin in the Semi? Not a hope in hell.

If the same Dublin side turned up that did against Mayo then Galway would have beaten Dublin and most likely would beat this current Tyrone side.

I've absolutely nothing against Galway and would gladly support them in any big championship matches (not involving Mayo)..

..But this notion of them possibly beating Dublin this year is pure nonsense

What are you basing this hypothetical prediction on?

My pleasure:
"Lets be honest here , it was great to see Tyrone get the extra time to prepare but Kerry are going to eat this Tyrone team alive. Tyrone have a very average full back line and will get badly exposed by the Kerry FF line in Croke park, McNamee in particular will be targeted as i expect Michael O'Neill will as well in the centre half back line. No doubt Tyrone are an up and coming team, but they are some way away from being able to challenge or beat any of the other semi finalists. Mayo's only chance of lifting Sam is if somehow Tyrone pull off an even bigger shock then they did on Saturday.

Yup. You called that one to perfection. Poor Mayo.
