Big standard blanket? What does that mean? Are you being insulting to country folk Jimbo?

Replying To Kingkeegan:  "Back than leinster football was really strong. Look at the ten years from 1994 to 2004.

1994 Meath won National league Div 1 title
1995 Dublin won leinster and All Ireland
1996 Meath won leinster and All Ireland
1997 Offaly won leinster
1998 Ofaly won National league Div 1 title
1998 kildare won leinster & reached All Ireland Final
1999 Meath won leinster & All Ireland
2000 kildare won leinster
2001 Meath won Leinster & reached All Ireland Final
2002 Dublin won leinster
2003 Laois won leinster
2004 Westmeath won Leinster

Always felt Sean Boylan never got enough credit for his achievements back then. The impact of Sean Boylan and Mick Dwyer on leinster football is huge. When Sean was successful It was the most competitive era in leinster football yet he won 8 Leinster titles in 15 years. He defeated Dublin in 7 leinster finals in 15 years which is remarkable. Laois and Westmeath have never beaten Dublin in leinster senior final. Kildare have only have beaten Dubs in one leinster final in 90 years. If Jack O Connor had won yesterday he would have been only 4th manager ever to beat Dubs in leinster final. Mick O Dwyer beat Dubs once in leinster final in 2000, Eugene McGee beat Dubs in two leinster finals in 1980 and 1982. Sean Boylan beat Dubs in 7 leinster finals in 1986, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1996, 1999 qnd 2001. Boylan also won 4 All Irelands in 13 years and reached 7 All Ireland final in the most competitive era in the All Ireland championship ever.
Its noticeable and significant when Sean Boylan retires in 2005 from leinster football and Mick Dwyer left laois in 2006, after that Dublin won 16 out of next 17 leinster titles. Sean Boylan teams beat Dublin 8 times and had 4 draws v Dubs in 15 years in leinster championship and Mickos team beat Dubs 3 times and had 2 draws against Dubs in Leinster championship in 15 years. Once the two greatest managers of all time left the scene, the two managers who defeated Dubs more than any other managers in history, when they left Meath and laois, Dublin flourished. And when you see Boylan part of the current Down U20 management team that wins Downs their first U20 Ulster title in 12 years, the great man still works his magic. When Boylan left and Dwyer left, the Dubs could breathe easier. The Dubs two greatest adversaries had left the main stage.

Look at this, bsfore Boylan wins his first leinster title in 1986 Dublin had won won 10 of the previous 12 leinster titles. Boylans win in 1986 and Dwyer comes to kildare in 1992. Meath win in 1986 and the next 18 years Meath win 8 leinster titles , kildare win 2 leinster titles and Offaly, laois, Westmeath win 1 each. After Boylan Dwyer leave in 2005, 2006 Dubs win 16 of the next 17 leinsters. Before Boylan and Dwyer manage in leinster Dubs dominated leinster, when they leave Dubs dominate again. I don't think people give Sean Boylan or Mick Dwyer enough credit for their impact on leinster football."
So all the rest only need a manager, deluded to the nth degree. A manager and of course the beloved volunteers. It's funny that Bertie's (it was only resting in my account Ahern) magic money tree started to bear professional coaches in 2005. Funny that.

In Dublin Bog Standard is just an expression, everyone uses it, no offence intended, just an expression, meaning "Basic/typical" as in something we all very familar with.

OK doke thanks for that arock. I thought it was a bogman term which is often used against people from the country as an insult.

It's a dirge at this stage. I don't know if I blame teams, knocking 30-40 points against provincial teams can be really damaging. Look at Cork last week, Kerry still in that honey mood period were teams are open against them.. The sooner the better we get a tierd championship the better.

If I was to pin point we're this started I think it was the first half vs Mayo in 19 were they went into lead at half time, then came these 12 mins from heaven but I think things looked at it and said, we won't beat them, play 14 behind the ball, don't over commit and keep the ball away from them at all costs - only problem is you will never score enough.

All that said, I think we've regressed, we're competitive but no where near the standard and quality we were, think we will have new wingers this year myself, to be fair other counties have been eating around for us to retire and regress for a long time, so we can have no complaints. Wonder when we will see the heights we brought the game to again? Maybe never.

All that said I wanted to give a massive shout out to Daniel Flynn yesterday, super, super performence from a quality player, I'm on the road a long time with Dublin and certainly over this period, I haven't seen the Gooches, McBreartys, O Connors, Murphys, Morans, McShanes, or Cliffords put in a performence like that against a Dublin defense. Forget the hype and all the media guff. There's are some of the best players in Ireland out there who never get hyped or acknowledged - Dan Flynn inone, wonderful player, wish he was born 30 miles up the M4.

Surprised at you Kboy. He s winding you. He says he s on the road since 2011 so he s seen David Clifford score great scores v Dublin and James ó Donoghue score at will in 2013 and Brill solo goal v Dublin and Clifford's Solo goal v Dublin in croker 2020 too but have to say Flynn is class too. Totally destroyed David Byrne who us a class full back. I think Dan Fylnn is one gem of a player.

If that's true and he only started following the blue machine in 2011, he's one shrewd operator. He missed out on all those losing years from 1995 to 2011, and saved himself a wad of money. Well played username! Well played, I say!

I wish have Jerseys with Kaliber on them, a customer of league games in the old Croker for a pound, a forehead no stranger to blue running down it from the paper hats in the rain and regular procurer of 3 bars from a pound from a pram! Like most Dubs at leat 3 near death experiences on the hill before they tamed it with health and safety - loved it! Some hairy moments in trains during the 80, 90s on trains and the old grounds, but nothing a small box on the way home wouldn't sort. We're luckier than most there is a real culture to the Dubs hard to describe, win or loose! But always there. It's never dull.

First game was the 83 final as a nipper on shoulders, scarf out the window of a car of a green mini- you know the ones where the window didn't open fully in the back! Around 7 kids in the back! The lads milling round the hill selling ice cream, remember them!

I don't interact with the lad in question, it's like watching a monkey trying to use a tin opener! And really your the idiot if your baited by one. He's mad for me to acknowledge him - hence above baiting - yawn. Best swerved really.

Very well described Username and lovely memories which got me thinking back too. I'm going to big games a few years before you and memories lovely also. I remember travelling to Dublin on the Fridays with the family for the long 6 hour haul and staying with relations in Dublin for weekend and My Dad and I would go to the games on the Sunday. More often than not though it was just my Dad and I on the early morning train journey to Dublin. No Saturday evening masses that time so the local priest would put on a special 10 mins mass for supporters going to Dublin at 6am the morning of the all ireland. On the train then with my cap and flag full of excitement heading to Dublin. Listening to my Dad and others talk about what might happen eating sandwiches made by my mother. Then arrival in Dublin. Wow hair rising at the back of my neck. Sound of train horn. People selling newspapers. The stench of the liffey the big crowds. I'm overawed. Then the long walk to croker. The bellows of "get your colours for the big match" "anyone buyin or selling a ticket" "apples oranges pears bananas and chocolates". Oh I've a tear in my eye now thinking back. Then into Croke Park and I'm in heaven. Nreves excitement but brilliant. Game over but can never stay for the cup presentation as its a mad rush for the train(c. I. e) not very accommodating back then. Get on train full of sweat and look forward to another exciting trip home. Ah those were the days my friend.

No doubt a super finish by Flynn for his goal on Sunday am I alone in thinking he could have been blown up for his charge into Cooper, shoulder to shoulder?

That is ridiculous. It is not his responsibility to shoulder when in possession. Cooper put up his hands up to chest height trying to stop him but Flynn was too strong. He just brushed off the attempted tackle

Lovely sceals Mick. Thinking back things have changed so much and elsewise not at all. The memories with your Dad will last a lifetime, they are very precious by the sound of it.

Do you know as i was reading i could hear the shouts, of "anyone buying or selling a ticket", you could see heart them from O Connell St all the way up to ground, haggling for the swap, remember the lads who would keep an eye on your car for a few bob! ;) Hoping the stiles. Scaling the wall. Remember the old wooden stands that used to rock when the train went by.

To this day, i still bring the sambos with me, its a tradition!! When you think of all the messing we get up toon here winning or loosening its really insignificant compared to all the above and the lifetime of memories. Our two counties have been luckier then most on that score tough!

The charging crossed my mind, but it was a brilliant goal, skill and play - he deserved it.

Felt for Collie Basquel though, didn't see much wrong with his goal bar the three fouls on him before he buried it, what was it called for Steps? Very little he could do with three lads hanging out of him. Would have been wonderful for his Dublin career and confidence.

Absolutely a stunning goal and he deserved it but no more or less than Murchan's goal v Kerry could have been blown for steps, Flynn could have been done for charging, Kilkenny was penalised earlier for " charging" on the Kildare endline. Previous poster from Leitrim doesn't know the rules, the only legitimate "charge" whether in possession or not is shoulder to shoulder.

These things happen in games of this nature in terms of favorable decisions Joe, i think the refs like to make a game of it - especially if its on TV.

Felt for Collie though, it would have been a huge moment in his development and Dublin career utterly deserved, shades of Bernard drifting in from the corner and beating a few.

Ya he slips up at times and it's very funny when he does, he got caught out a few months ago when he didn't know who Mick Galvin was and didn't know he was managing dublin while dessie was banned for cheating and breaking lockdown rules.

He stopped interacting with me when I called him out on his slips on a few occasions but that's his way :-)

I saw an Interesting point made by Martin Breheny in the Independent - he counted 308 back passes in Sunday's game. This was mainly as a result of the safety first, minimal risk approach employed by both teams.

While I commend Kildare's defensive organization to keep pushing the Dubs back and the Dubs' strength allied with accurate passing to retain the possession for long periods at a time - there were minimal contests for the ball. It was like looking at Basketball but without a shot clock.
