Have Cork Any Chance In Killarney

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Cork usually put it up to the Kingdom. But Kerry will be gunning for revenge after last Winters late goal and humiliation. Cork football is a pale shadow of what it once was. Kerry to win by at least ten points

Cork always have a chance because of the rivalry. No rivalry is a big in gaa sport. No counties have played each other more in any provence than Cork and Kerry. They have even played each other in two all ireland finals and 4 semis. That gas never happened with teams from the same provence. Kerry Cork always take on a life of their own. Kerry should win but no shock if Cork won either. Cork always play their best football v Kerry and they have some really class players.

Have to agree. Kerry by at least 10 seems right. There will be no repeat of last year's snatch and grab. Also,Kerry will approach Cork in a completely different spirit this time. They will have learned a lot from last year's match.

As Powter says, he fully expects to beat Kerry in their own backyard so I give the lads every chance. It doesn't get bigger than this for us. Cork by 2.

Kerry on their own patch against a Cork team that blows hot and cold, points to convincing Kerry win.

You'd have to think that Kerry should be winning this game by 5+ pts

The Cork result last year was absolute self sabotage of the highest order and a terrible result and performance from P Keane on the night leaving behind massive question marks over his head.

Also very poor finishing and decision making by his prominent players in poor conditions greatly added to it.

Just can't see things going so wrong again and Kerry being the better team should win this with a fair bit of room after a very hard lesson learned from last year.

Cathal O Mahony and Ciaran Sheehan are big losses, presuming they're unavailable. Even so, looking through that Cork team and there is so much quality, Meehan at centre back looks a great young player. You always feel Cork can match division 1 teams in terms of athleticism, which is a big plus. But you just cant predict which Cork team will turn up

A chance? Yes we have a chance. How big? Not very big. It could get very ugly for us.

I was at Limerick game and watched the league games. We get big scores and we get them from a variety of sources. This may be a positive but I feel our inside forward line don't contribute enough (partly of how we are set up) and our other lines are going to be busy keeping tabs on Kerry dangermen. The big worry is how we'll score or get enough of them?

Perhaps the fairly negative play against Limerick was with one eye on Kerry..to slow the game down. Maybe the master plan from Mccarthy. I doubt it though.

I think we are making progress. We have a good minor and under 20 teams. County leagues and championships are now better structured and there will be more developments coming in this regard. We are coming back. Would love to win Sunday but probably won't. Our time, under a new management, will come later.

I fear a 2018 style beating. Kerry could really go to town on us. At times in the league & championship game against Limerick we were very open to goal chances.

I think we'll certainly lose. The only question is by how much.

I remember Tyrone being nipped by Sligo in 2002, and Fermanagh getting the backlash of that in 2003. Kerry has to be switched on for this one. However, Cork will also love to prove a few people wrong, so it will be competitive, and should be a good enough game - for a while. Kerry to win. Even if not by a big amount, they will not care.

Even when Cork were in my opinion the best team in the country (albeit had mental breakdowns in Croker against Kerry) we never won in Killarney. The best we did was get the draw and then win in Cork in a replay.
I can see that anybody outside of Cork has to think a comfortable Kerry win. However, the players have to believe they can beat Kerry. We are starting to breed a bunch of young men that are used to competing and win against them and beat them, so this will stand to them mentally, although the step up to senior is massive, but mindset is a huge part of the problem. I think we are a long way behind Kerry at this level at the moment, and the only hope is to drag them down again and Nick a result. We cannot have a shot out.
If I was a gambling man, it would have to be a Kerry win with a margin with class to pull away in the last 15 mins. However, I will never go to a Cork game thinking we have no hope.

I July 1987, Cork drew with Kerry in the Pairc with a last-second free from Larry Tompkins and then went to Killarney and beat Kerry well in the replay.

David Clifford and Sean O' Shea are tough to handle. This Kerry team is good, and probably only team that can topple the Dubs. Kerry's defense however is suspect, but like Brazil in 1970's a potent attack can offset this. It's good to be in a Munster Final in Killarney!
