Ulster Keeping Gaelic Football Alive

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Today's close, exciting encounter between Tyrone and Donegal following yesterday's cracker involving Armagh and Monaghan. Give me these any day of the week before the one sided, farcical games we see elsewhere. The Ulster Championship is the only one worth watching. Leinster is dead and buried while Connacht and Munster rarely throw up decent, competitive games. I don't like to see football this way but the domination by Dublin, and Croke Park's role in this, has wrecked football. Thoughts?

So what exactly do you propose be done to change things then?

it was donegal that nearly ruined football in the first place [ulater right?] imagine the state of the game if they had of done 6 in a row!!!! dublin "saved" football after that nightmare with their wonderful football , a team graced with some of the greatest players ever , a team of gentlemen with not a hint of ego in any of the players they have used in 10 years

Ulster football is in a very good place; the standard of the games from last Sunday in Ballybofey to this weekend were of a very high standard. The philosophy has went full circle, Ulster football is all about attack but still very tactical and a joy to watch.

They have four Division 1 teams; I think Derry will win Division 2 next season; it'll be hard for Ulster to keep four up but if they do there could five Division 1 teams in 2023.

We know from history Ulster as a province have had golden era's bringing three or four teams through at the one time to compete and win All Ireland's. They're a long way off the 60's, 90's, 00's era's but I think something is happening in Ulster football again. When Ulster football is strong, the GAA as a whole is strong.

Whilst Ulster looks to be getting stonger, the question will be can they compete with Dublin and Kerry, that'll be the challenge but I think Meath showed today, competing with Dublin might not be the same impossible task of the last six years.

Ulster's always been a good tough competitive championship, and the all Ireland would be the worse of it was ever done away with imo, but no ulster team has given the dubs a tough game since 2014, and apart from tyrone in 2018 (when they were easily beaten), ulster teams haven't been challenging for Sam in that time either.
Hopefully that trend can be bucked this year.

Would be great to see such a populous area as Galway step up to the plate to challenge the Dubs

Whatever about the rest of the country the games in Ulster have been very enjoyable this weekend. Competitive games in almost every game in ulster this year and some good open high scoring games. Leinster and Munster have been dead for years apart from the odd upset every 10 years which is not what a proper competition should be.

Mayo and Kerry who started most the attacking football we see today. Dublin still play a far more defensive possesion based gameplan than most the rest of the country.

Armagh and monaghan are copying mayo's style from last year not dublins.

Yep agreed , them fecking Dubs dominating the game has ruined football , time for Kerry domination again

Don't forget we're fighting on two fronts, hurling and football, one of only two only counties n modern Ireland to be doing so, and the other one has 10x our population.
