Replying To johnterry:  "if he is missing it won't be the disaster some believe it to be. Sean Kelly would be captain and there are other free takers. He was well held by Stack today truth be told"
No way was walsh fully fit today. Didn't do the warm up and was afraid to shoot majority of the time. Not his usual self carrying ball like he can either. I was at the game and it was obvious he was not himself.
Stack done well on him alright but that wasn't a 100% Shane Walsh

He didn't do too bad today against Stack considering he was carrying an injury. I can't think of another player in the starting lineup that would have had the vision for that diagonal pass that ultimately created the 2nd goal.

Based on the fact that Ross had the better of Galway around the middle I can't see where they can trouble Mayo. The pace of Mayo running at them will be their undoing. Don't expect them to get a roasting or anything but can't see our forward line getting enough quality ball to come out on top. Ross missed easy chances in early stages today

Replying To Mayonman:  "Happy enough. Galway showed a lot of fight, work rate and a willingness to win dirty ball. Seemed to be a huge amount of water on the pitch so that needs to be taken into account when assessing quality.

Cooke and Tierney are huge additions since last year. Very young team that will only get better. No back door is huge disadvantage because every championship game will bring them on.

Great to see Molloy getting a run of games.

Mchugh has grown into CB but John Daly can't be too far away from fitness.

Kellys get better every day.

We need to work on decision making. Still letting us down but we are getting better.

No reason to fear Mayo. Won't be easy but definitely achievable."

Kind of reminds us of all the years that same dour horrible defensive system played by your own county!

Interesting how the Sunday Game night show did not mention the Shane Walsh hamstring yet they were going on about the Michael Murphy one all day and questioned the decision to play the latter the previous week.

The conditions were absolutely horrible yesterday, it was inevitable that the game would be error strewn. In general play, there really wasn't much between the teams, the goals made the difference. I felt Roscommon took too many pot shots, shooting from impossible positions on a terrible day. They seemed unable to manufacture easier scoring positions for their forwards. Is this because their transition from defense to attack is too slow and they were allowing Galway to get their men back?

Have Galway improved any since Padraic Joyce has taken over? They seem to be playing a similar brand of football as they were under Kevin Walsh. He has introduced some really fine young players though and Kieran Molloy is a great addition. Galway could come good in the next few years given the age profile of the team. Roscommon need a rethink, they are far too defensive and 12 points is not going to win a championship game.

Its a terrible show don't let it get to you. Would be much better if they just showed highlights of the games rather than have overpaid spoofers chatting about the games.

Stick with the big ball, I say!"
Nail on the head. It amazes me how some of our fans (the one you posted at being such one) dismissed Dublin's chances on Saturday. Arrogance beyond arrogance. Dublin more than deserved their win and it is not as if we have not being here before. By the same token i would not be that critical of our guys or indeed the Ros footballers as often it is on the day. A small proportion of Galway hurling only folk have for years looked down on big ball within the county. I could never fathom even if you have personal preferences how a fan cannot support both codes within their county and particularly in counties when it is relatively equal in participation with relative success etc.

The nail wasn't really on the head tbh, his post was absolute rubbish , the footballers haven't come within an asses roar of winning Sam since 01 while the hurlers have regularly featured in finals and semis, winning it in 17.

The match in Connacht yesterday made me wonder why do GAA programmes outline teams 1- 15 in their traditional positions. These positions count for nothing nowadays. We might as well go down the soccer route and give players squad numbers

Thought the game was very pedestrian at times. Players had a lot of time on the ball...could solo standing still. Externally defensive. Conditions didn't help.

His post was just as bad those from 'hurling snobs', but on the other side of the fence.
How can you say he hit the nail on the head, when he's saying we should stick to one sport?
All this hurling vs football talk is nonsense. I've played both for my club, as have hundreds of players over the years and have supported Galway in both codes, seeing us win and lose plenty in both. Many will have their preference of course, but no post belittling one or the other should be commended.

Look at the overall picture across a number of generations. That is the context i have taken. In the last 20 years yes our hurlers have been more competitive and have given us some great days. There is a bigger point in all this that has been missed.

And up to Dublin's dominance a far more competitive championship since the early nineties.

The first part was tongue in cheek territory from me. I should have clarified. Am also a fan of both codes but was taken aback by the dismissal of Dublin hurlers on our own forum. I take your point though. No point fuelling it. Waste of time.

Our footballers have won 2 all Irelands in the past 55 years,Leicester have won almost as many premier leagues in that time.
I agree with you regarding the football championship being more competitive historically but again that's flipped around now too.
