Football Championship 2021

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

It's almost upon us again and while we're still not out of the woods and it will be similar to last year, hopefully we'll see some improvement in terms of spectators as things progress. You would have to think normal service would resume in terms of who would come through in the provinces and while last year was brilliant for Cavan and Tipp,I'd imagine the chances of a repeat are extremely slim.
Personally, I think Kerry are the team who are most likely to succeed Dublin for the obvious reasons. They have the scoring forwards to compete and while some questions still remain to be answered about their defense,it's vital to have firepower to have any hope of beating us.
Mayo, for me are still most likely to prevail in Connacht and should that come to pass will face Dublin in a semifinal. The new blood that came in last year will relish another chance after the defeat in last years final.
Ulster is a hard one to call and I genuinely would not be surprised to see someone like Armagh come through but again you have to see Donegal and Tyrone as the favourites.
Whatever happens I still cannot see past a Dublin v Kerry final. The names that have stepped away from Dublin are huge and are very hard to replace and I am not sure the team will be as strong. So without going out on too much of a limb, I would fancy Kerry this year.

Armagh won't be doing anything. Monaghan are quite dogged and will beat Armagh if Antrim don't.

Donegal v Monaghan final.

Well past time that real football beats that basketball garbage.

And Monaghan to win. Donegal don't look great.

Armagh v tyrone a real ulster final ...donegal got some amazing players but still waiting on them to really kick off and put 4or 5 hard championships games together.

Are Kerry peaking too early?

Kerry are definitely better and we are not as good as we were. It all points to a Kerry AI.
As for the championship itself, still finding it hard to get riled up for these games with no atmosphere.

Dublin will win all ireland again lot of hype about kerry but remain unconvinced about their defence. Huge blow for mayo if o Connor injured galway wounded animal so dangerous in the west. Up north Donegal rightly favourites great squad but armagh look massively improved and if defence holds could push them hard in an ulster final.

Not looking good for Cillian O'Connor this summer. Huge loss for Mayo with his experience and knack of getting goals amongst his other qualities. Mayo may be ruled out from being there or there abouts but we've heard that before....

I don't think we have peaked yet considering we're only back collective training with 7 weeks and I hope we wont hit our peak for another few weeks at least although we'll need to be on it when we meet Clare Saturday week.

What I expect to happen

Connacht

Mayo v Galway final with Mayo to win narrowly
Donegal v Monaghan final with Donegal to to win by 3 or 4 points

Kerry won't be caught on that hop in Munster this time and the usual stroll for Dublin in Leinster.

All Ireland semi final

Dublin v Mayo - the Dublin by 10 points (loss of Cillian O'Connor will be keenly felt here for Mayo

Donegal v Kerry - Kerry to sneak the win perhaps extra time required

AI FINAL

Dublin to beat Kerry by at least 6 points.

I'd hope we have a few shock wins like Cavan, Tipperary winning provincial but that's less likely to happen in summer football

It's all just a set of warm up matches for Dublin and Kerry with Dublin to hold of the rising Kerry tide for 1 more year.

No one else getting near it now Cillian O Connor is out

That's the best joke I heard all week, there won't be much caavan money on that outcome.
Tyrone 1/6 Donegal 1/7 away in Newry, the bookies don't give the punter a chance.

For Mayos sake I hope they don't win connacht this year as Dublin will demolish them in the semi.

Don't really have much interest in championship going forward. Our league game v Meath was effectively our championship. The whole Leinster championship is pointless and I'd think it would be great if the back door / qualifiers were done away with all together. A hell of a lot of other counties thinking like that too.

You would think that if Leinster is pointless you would welcome a chance of a run through a back door.

Like they demolished Cavan , the Division 4 team who knocked Donegal out of the Championship last year, football is funny as they say.

Surely Donegal should be well capable of beating Down, Derry, an up in a heap Tyrone and probably Monaghan.
Galway are now favorites to win Connacht, with Mayo losing their main man.
Kerry
Dublin

I think it's the perfect draw for Donegal, progressively getting harder, just what any team wants and they'll be a well oiled machine when they face Kerry.

Donegal are definitely going to be the best prepared team to knock Kerry out of the championship and reach the All-Ireland final. It could be Donegal's year this.

Well if you're to believe posters outside of kerry then we would be coming into a semifinal undercooked should we get that far and like you say Donegal or like I think Tyrone could be primed and ready to take us apart, either way I suppose we'll find out in 8 weeks time.
