I haven't seen him play but I've heard he's outrageous. I suppose we will see on July 11. I think if it's Donegal on July 11, I think they'll have him well marshalled... I hope so anyway. Stephen McMenamin will be given the task to keep him quiet with a sweeper covering. The unknown of Derry is scary.

He's a class act, I don't think he gets the recognition nationally that he deserves, whoever will be on him whether it's Neil McGee or Stephen McMenamin they'll need to put in a big shift.

I hope this is some sort of joke, held scoreless from play against Armagh last year in the Ulster Championship and only 0-1 from play against Offaly and Limerick. Could name atleast ten better forwards in Ulster never mind Ireland

I'll tell you this here and now, there is no better forward in Ulster than Shane McGuigan and believe me I know them all. He scored 7 points against Armagh by the way, as far as I know a point from a free is still worth the same as as point from play. No word from you about the 1-05, 1-04 etc from play at all lol. Be careful when you slate teams in any division , Cavan are now a division 4 team but it's not long since they sent your mob packing out of Ulster . First round wasn't it ? AfricanGael (UK) - Posts: 1947 - 25/06/2021 12:51:38 2353262 Link 0 |

Noone in Donegal is looking beyond Down that's for sure. But if we do win and end up facing Derry, we'll see how McGuigan gets on then. If Stephen McMenamin is fully fit and has good game against Down behind him, McGuigan will have a tough day at the office. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9769 - 25/06/2021 15:23:09 2353312 Link 0 |
Well a potential banana skin but it would still be a shock if Donegal get caught two years in a row, so you'd have to fancy them to beat Derry, what McGuigan will do at one end McBrearty will do at the other and of course Michael Murphy will be back.

Compare that to McCarthy's solitary point if you want and don't forget McCarthy had a second bite at the cherry and still couldn't do it in extra time. The lad got roasted by kennedy from armagh last year not even armaghs best defender. Mc carthy last i remember 3-1 vs donegal in a div 1 game whilst mc guigan is scoring 0-1 vs limerick and offaly lol. Hes a decent player dont get me wrong but hes not anywhere near second best forward in ireland. bobo91 (Monaghan) - Posts: 16 - 26/06/2021 11:05:41 2353440 Link 0 |
Well, you just don't like Derry so if McGuigan was the best player the world had ever seen, it wouldn't matter to you. A dog with a hammer in his hole knows McGuigan is miles ahead of McCarthy. Now you are talking pure nonsense, McGuigan scored 13 points v Limerick and Offaly so at least have your facts right instead of making it up as you go along. Just saw the down team for tomorrow. A lot of changes to last year. What's the story with the Johnstone and Mooney etc? thegadfly (Cavan) - Posts: 290 - 26/06/2021 23:24:48 2353623 Link 0 |
Can't see Down troubling Donegal tomorrow with that lineup although I wouldn't rate Donegal either. Very soft at the back and can't produce when the pressure is applied. Michael Murphy ,a great player mind you, won't be up to the pitch of the battle in a tight championship affair as last year's Ulster final illustrated when he was nullified by a hungrier Cavan outfit. A great panel they have, don't get me wrong but I'm sick to the two back teeth of this overhyping of them from the media that they could challenge the Dubs. It's commical at this stage. They're not great. No AI semi final since 2014 speaks volumes. Either are Tyrone for that matter. Extemmely dissappointing this year. A team in transition. They're like a sieve at the back. Completely clueless. Not sure Mc Shane can pull them out of the doldrums. I'd be expecting a Cavan win there and the final to be contested by Cavan v Monaghan/Armagh. Monaghan looking good this year. Some lovely young footballers coming through. If I was asked to pick a final pairing it would be Cavan v Monaghan. As much as it pains me to say it I'd give Monaghan the nod to get revenge for the last couple of years where Cavan have prevailed in those marvellous Drumlin Classicos. thegadfly (Cavan) - Posts: 290 - 26/06/2021 23:41:00 2353629 Link 0 |
The way Down capitulated to Cavan last year after leading by 10pts would suggest to me that Donegal won't be over stretched in this game… Their only worry would be complacency and Donegal have recent history in that regard…..!!!!!
